Amy's messagesLet's just say that someone ran her first and supposed only marathon, and let's just say, she is thinking about MDI marathon - when would she need to sign up by? Amy F. Someone told me that you can find out the names of people registered to run Sugarloaf. How can I do that? I didn't see it on the website. Getting nervous. Congratulations again to all of you at Boston. Amy Thanks. Amy By Amy on 12 April, 2005 - 08:09 | Event Report
Thanks for your good thoughts. The day was beautiful. Weather eventually reached 74 degrees. Blue Sky. Several thousand women - most of them in their 40s. At race start temp was in low 50s. Perfect. The first mile was down hill so, obviously, we all went out very fast. Miraculously I continued at that pace until about mile 9. The course is two loops around Central Park - rolling hills, green grass (yes it was green down there), bicyclists, roller bladers, lots of dogs and dog walkers, other runners going counter clockwise to our clockwise run. No wind. My goal was under 2:11. At mile 8 I was feeling great, even thought to myself maybe I could do 2:08. At mile 9, I lost the great rhythm I had gong and just got really tired. I ate my gu, drank some water (they had water stations about every 1.5 miles) and felt better at mile 10 or so. At mile 12, I was urging myself on looking for that big finish, but to no avail. There was no sprint at the end but also no collapse. felt good. It was a great day. My sister from Florida ran it as well and she met her goal. We celebrated, as we usually do, with hot fudge sundaes. By Amy on 18 March, 2005 - 19:52 | Where to run
If you were going to run 15 miles on the MDI marathon course, which 15 miles would it be? (consecutive miles, please) Amy By Amy on 13 March, 2005 - 18:25 | Training Talk
Over the next month my training for Sugarloaf includes a fifteen mile run and a twenty mile run (and distances in between). Any ideas for routes of those distances on MDI? Thanks. Amy By Amy on 2 March, 2005 - 17:01 | Injury and Recovery
Since I have been increasing my mileage, I have noticed soreness in my low back, especially in morning when I wake up. Has this ever happened to anyone? Any remedies? Amy By Amy on 26 February, 2005 - 08:21 | Training Talk
What do you folks know about training for running in high altitude? I will not be running, but I am planning a bike trip in Colorado in June over 6 days. I will get to Colorado a few days early and ride my bike but wondered what your thoughts were about preparing ahead of time to avoid altitude sickness. Thanks. Amy Has anyone run this race? What is it like? Thanks Amy |
