Clarence DeMar Just Likes To Run Great Marathoner Every Day Fellow At 52 Hopes to Keep running for 20 more years; has simple advice for youngsters. The flimsy running uniform was stuck to his body. Stuart Jenkins Stuart Jenkins of ran the *official* third fastest Boston Marathon by a resident Mainer - (2:21.37 in 1982). Mr. Jenkins also tied for winning the 1981 Paul Bunyan Marathon in 1981. He currently is the CEO of Principa College in Elsah, Illinois. RK Special Notes...Stuart's fastest and perhaps the fastest marathon by a Mainer at Boston I have found written second hand was 2:18.46, 4 seconds away from qualifying in the Olympics - I'm not sure of the year - but Stuart explains why I haven't found it yet in the record books. I'm going to do some further research on this. RK Notes - This was something that I found today that I thought was very interesting for history about Maine Running Clubs. It was mentioned in the June 3, 1980 Bangor Daily News written by Bob Haskell in his On The Run article/section. It's about a race in Camden that was run called the Reebok/Camden 10,000 Meter Road Race. This particular year Bob Hodge (29.33) and Joan Benoit were the overall champions. When I get back to it - I'll post more later... |
