What's your rainy day run?
It was wet but fun out there today with a large crew! Ginger, Mark, Judson, Bob B, Bob C, Shannon and Michele....with a Karen sighting and also a visit with Becky and Vanessa. Nice!
I am very happy....my first full week back after being sick and I feel good. I wanted to average right around a 9 min pace and I hit it pretty much right on. Yay! :)
The run was an experiment. The past couple times I ran, I only did a quarter mile before I was stopped by pain. Today my hips did not feel perfect, but I was not stopped dead in my tracks by pain. I've also nailed the two definitely painful spots so hopefully that will help me and the other medical people in my life figure it out. One is the attachment of the IT band on the iliac crest on the left hip. The other is a spot on the right iliopsoas.
Cycling was mostly on a spin bike with a couple minutes on my new rollers. There is a learning curve to those puppies.
or a wind trainer rollers are fun after you master them but not real fun if you can't kick out of the pedal clips but the pain from falling off your bike riding indoors is better than picking rocks and tar out of your skin and the fall may fix the hip pain by making the pain to move to other body parts
PVC rollers on a metal frame and they fold up very easily so I can cart them back and forth from home to school.
They are way fun. The trick: let go of the back of the couch and commit - steer with your hips - and laser focus so you don't fall. Anna you'd LOVE them. You can zoom in a way you can't on a trainer and it feels like riding on the road.
I'll get pictures next weekend.
Not to mention they're one big physics problem: speed the bike wheel is traveling at vs speed the roller is turning at, rotational energy, good stuff.
get to far trom the couch it is easier to land on that than the tv or your lap top
Anything which lets me tease apart a composite like motion on a bike into its subtle components, anything which understanding will let me perform better and especially anything which gives me the opportunity to seriously hurt myself when I fall off it interests me.
You all know that.
we've got to get together over Christmas break.
The benefit of rollers = smoothing out your pedal stroke, learning to ride in a dead straight line, and a cardio workout.
11 miles this morning, 11 after lunch and another 9 in the dark. Brings the two day total to 59 miles.
My 11 after lunch was out on the loop road and the loop road was open. I went out for my late night run and they had all the gates closed off, well at least the gates at the end of ledgelawn and over by the tarn. Is that something they do at night or is it closed for the season? I thought they were staying open until Dec.
I think there's a deer poaching problem going on and also I thought they closed them for the season Nov 15....open April 15 or at least they've done that the last year or so.
