Happy Birthday Judson!

Happy birthday Judson.
I'm into a 2-3 month swim focus and have added swims up to 5-6 per week. Mostly I am going ~45 minutes. Mixed sets with drills and fast swimming, some non FS stoke laps too. Should I continue to add sessions, even doing doubles or would it be better to add yards to more swims? It is much easier to find more free ~45 minute time chunks than going regularly over 1 hr. I will for sure find one longer session though.
Also what's your opinion on Masters swims? Word here is that Masters has improved with better instruction and leadership. I see little chance to improve my flip turns or do any swim meets but would like to get faster.
Masters' swim groups vary of course. One advantage you would have there is coaching - someone to look at your stroke and spot flaws - and it is also easier to swim fast when you are swimming with other people. Like doing a track workout with company. My opinion there is that it's worth it.
Why have you given up on flip turns?
Adding time to current workouts vs doubles --- I'd argue for doubles right now. Off season swimming should be a lot of stroke work and increasing power in the pool. You can do that better with doubles than longer workouts; you recover easily from swimming so doubles will get you a higher training load. It sounds like you're doing easy/fast swimming and not so much vo2/threshold (which would be good in season training) so to that you might add pull sets with paddles, and some 25s really fast and half-length sprints (Explosive for half the pool, then just glide the rest).
A good way to set up doubles is one of them is a workout like that - the second recovery. [You can switch and swim easy first, fast later]
First and foremost, however, work on your stroke. The easiest way to get faster is to fix technical flaws and that goes for non-free too.
Was that helpful enough?
Thanks
in the wind today. I have a cold but not more than that so I went out and I feel better than before.
I have ridden every day this week, mostly on my time trial bike just to get the odometer up to a round number before putting it away for the winter. Got in a couple of hard efforts on the loop road last week. It is so nice riding out there with the deer outnumbering the autos.
and longest ride ever! Park Loop Rd. Loved it! We got caught in hard rain the last few miles.
Bet it was windy when you went out. Sounds like fun!
ROCKS Ginger!! Welcome to the Roadie Club!
will be at The Hall in Otter Creek, Thursday Dec. 17th at 6pm. More details to follow.
AShley's spin class followed by Great Meadow Loop run from Y, down Kebo, Park Loop, Lower Ledgelawn to Y. I think 3 mi. Nice run before the ran.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JUDSON
Treadmill. It was raining. A warmup for the bar harbor bed races tomorrow. 10:00 on Cottage St. I'm running with Team Bar Harbor Fire, of course:)
Kevin, Deb, Brenda, and Heidi :-)
Nice and easy. I have a long way to go, but I can't believe how good my upper body feels since I have been working on my form. Running pain/tension free is amazing!
I am SO excited for tomorrow! Haydn and I are taking a day trip to UMF to race in the Turkey Trot hosted, in part, by CeCelia's XC team. I am ready for some (hopefully) fast running and fun! *i will not bring my ipod, i will not bring my ipod, i will not bring my ipod*
:)
Have a blast John and Beech Cliff at the races this am!
There's 15% off this morning if you show up in PJs at House Wine, but I think you have to sprint to make it there before the sale ends. It dries up in the 9-10ish range.
