I love watching the Olympics!

Rest day here.

Have a great day, Eden. :)

9

walked

Run

4.7 miles in 30:26 with 3 strides uphill and 1 set of uphill bounding to wake up the legs for the track later.

swim

2 miles. It took a little while to work through the aches from my swim workout on Wednesday then it was smooooth.

55 min bike

out to Otter Cliffs and beyond. Then a little run around town. Hehe.

To the Spruce Grouse at Fabbri: sorry about the interruption.

Very cool

swim, bike, run. You're a machine.

And biking outside is even cooler.

5.1M

unqualified run with no exceptions.

track

1+ warmup,

Track workout, 3x(1600,800,400,200)

1600's were 4:58,4:55 and 4:56
800's were 2:22,2:24 and 2:23
400's were 1:09,1:09, 1:08
200's were 32,32,32

400 jog rest after the 1600's, 200 after the 800's, 100 after the 400's and 3 minutes bewteen sets, got that?

1+ cooldown

Track was a little worse than I thought, but only on that 100 meter stretch on the end that's mostly in the shade. Still, it was good enough to do what I needed to do. Just made the workout a little harder and with the wind was just what I needed to get ready for a winter marathon.

Cripes

That is, like, 9 miles.
Look out Hyannis.

Ya

Just having some fun until I get to climb on the bike.

Help needed!

So in my art class, we had to make "power masks" today. The mask could be human, animal, or anything else that symbolized the power we want it to bring to us. I chose the gazelle, for speed and gracefulness. We are attaching these masks to a canvas....and on mine, I am creating a border that can have some verse. Can someone write for me that neat quote about running and the gazelles? I may use that if it will fit. Thanks!

YMCA 2 hr session at 4pm tomorrow...

Ashlee and DJ Rich are hosting a personalized session of indoor cycling, tag teaming the locals. So if you can buck up the sawbuck, stop on in if it fits your itinerary and "Sweat up a Storm" (caution to the willing to burn 1500-200 calories in this session). So bring someone you love and be prepared for them to love you a little bit less afterwords (due to weight loss of course) Guaranteed to be a group effort in fitness.

Well

You'll burn 2000 calories, but that's because of all that stuff you wear.

Bundling up

doesn't burn more calories. It just makes you sweat more.

True

sweating doesn't mean burning extra calories, But by having those extra layers on you are working harder, even in a stationary position. And the more work you do the more calories you burn. If you think of extra layers as extra weight, then it's easy to see this.

Gear does make it fun..

however the science is some damn hard stationary cycling..Hoo-Ahh
the gear has several basic components that factor into the experience which can be can be mixed and matched depending on the conditions and the intent of the activity. How I derive that formula has yet to be cataloged. Key is that if you work that thermal engine, you feel marvelous. Billy Crystal says, "You look Marvelous" too.

The next step is if those calories are burned, then what are you gonna put in that "coal box" that provides the nutrition to increase maintain that metabolic rate for sustained fitness. So I'm gonna go eat my Luna Berry Bar and make a BB smoothie prior to that 2 hr cycling session, join in later.

Rob, you do

look marvelous. Get pictures. R&A's long sessions are a blast. I have an easy day today so will miss out. At least I should be outdoors.

You're not doing more work.

work = force x distance

If you want to look at it from the perspective of running with an extra pound of fabric, well, yes you're moving a little more weight, enjoy the extra raisin

Beg to quibble

a) Energy conversion is highly inefficient, with heat and entropy the major product -- an asymptotic feedback loop, if you will, with an upper limit at which nothing is accomplished beyond raw combustion.

b) Force in this instance is a function of resistance. There's a good mechanical benefit to wearing a singlet and shorts while racing, as opposed to a the good old naugahyde coveralls, no matter how stylish.

a Quibbler!

a) Calorie burn is related to oxygen consumption. IE if you want to burn more calories in a given instance, are we consuming more oxygen at that instance? If you weigh more while running than sure. But on an indoor bike? I can't see that my putting, say, a sweater on while on the trainer is going to make me burn more calories than just my sports bra.

b) Rob's talking about an indoor spin bike - no wind resistance.

Happy to quibble; was arguing about this very thing with someone the other day. Maybe I am wrong.
