Saturday, March 6: Daily Log

What's your run?

3 x 1 mi

6:36, 6:31, 6:27 w/ quarter-mile easy between each. 8.5 mi total in 63:36.

90 min on the bike, indoors: 6 x 3 min fast, 1 min recoveries. Finished with a long time on the foam roller and glute strength.

6.5miles

Did the same 6.5 as yesterday. Felt really, really great today. Its BEE-YOO-TEEFUL outside and it was nice to run without all the extra gear. I almost imagined that winter is over (is that wishful thinking...?)

Wow is it nice out there

The sun is out, the Schooner Head path is clear, it's warm . . . yes, heading out today it felt more like May than March. I don't expect to avoid more wintry weather, but it sure felt wonderful today.

Ran out to Schooner Head overlook and back, 8 miles total. Felt good, cruised along in the 7:40s per mile generally. Saw Suzanne, Ginger and Kevin all as they were wrapping up their various runs too.

16.5 miles

15 mile run @ 9:07 average, then 1.5 mile walking cooldown.

Ginger and I agreed we would use the first 5 miles or so to warm up, and I see that once it was time to get busy, my average pace for the last 10.83 miles was 8:49. Yay!!!

Ran two town loops with Ginger, Britt, Becky and Lisa...and then finished up the long run with Ginger and Britt. Saw lots of people out and about....Holly and Marion, Mary, Jill, Mark, and Bob on his bike which was a pick-me-up.

Great run but I am feeling the need for a nap now. Hot cocoa first. :)

7

miles outside.

The sun is out in Canada but it's not warm. Definitely nothing like May. Wrestled a gusting, blustery, snow blowing north wind for every step and wished I were back in Maine where wrestling hills is so effortless (in my memory anyway) by comparison.

Some weights too, on the theory that more muscle mass = heavier = handles better in high winds. In this town the solid runners are precisely that: solid people.

Well done on your distance run, Suzanne! I definitely look forward to sharing one of those with you in a few weeks.

I'm nervous

Ever since I got home to relax, my heart has been "fluttery" on and off, like I can feel it race just a bit up high in my chest. A slight headache, too. To be safe, I called the ER. They said to monitor, and to come in only if my pulse gets really high or low, or irregular. I'm a little surprised they don't want to see me. I am taking it easy...my pulse is 73-78...probably a bit high for me but I'm not sure.

*sigh*

Fluttery

-caffeine intake pre and during run?
-are you dehydrated?

Both will cause an elevated HR.

It seems to have settled down now

Before the run, I had one cup of coffee at 7:30 am. (One cup before running is my norm.)

During the run I drank water, and had one Tri-Berry Gu. Drank more water in the car, and also when I got home.

No coffee since that first cup. I usually have a cup after a long run, but it didn't appeal to me. I had to force myself to eat, too. Didn't feel like doing that either but knew I had to. Peanut butter sandwich on 100% whole wheat bread.

I did have a cup of hot chocolate, but that was well after the whole thing started.

12.7M

4.4M walk (warm up). 8.3M run. The run was about 30 hours after the 18 miler yesterday. Got to enjoy a late afternoon run. Probably the first late afternoon run of the year!

3.6 - Back Cove Loop, Portland

So this is what spring is supposed to feel like.

15 miles

I'll say about 2 of these miles were walking. I've got to whip myself back into marathon shape. Zumba's just zapping my energy, all that jumping and shaking. Suzanne was nice to come back for me, although I wish it had been by car not foot...AND 2 miles sooner. I'm exhausted now.

Dr. G diagnosed Suzanne, she'll be fine- she just needs to take her medicine, lots of water:)

LOL

Ginger noticed I had a lot of salt on my face after the run, which is unusual for me. I looked at my water bottles since I had not emptied them yet...one was empty and one still has a 1/3 in it. I thought I had drank enough, but I guess I was dehydrated. Lesson learned, I will be more careful from now on!

Thank you, Dr's Ginger and Alyie! :)

Around 5

Starting at Compass Harbor around noon with Diane. Wow it's nice out!! I love that little path; Diane can vouch for the fact that I was gravitating toward the dirt the whole way. She ran twice what I did, but it was nice of her to let me tag along for the first half. And we had a Don and Jean sighting, which makes every day sunshiny!

Happy you feel better Suzanne. And Anna it's rotten luck (and geographic law I guess) that you didn't get the temps we got. Get back and enjoy it soon.

week of..

land navigation, grappling in the tire trench, PT, and ruck marches in good ole San Antone Armstrong ooh ahh
