What's your run today?
Waving to Nikki! She is a friend starting a running program who may be checking out our site today!
...just to loosen things up. Feeling better than expected, although my left calf threatened to tighten up once and my right knee is a little funky.
S - Happy to read you are doing well. Your right funky knee may be a case of the ITB. That course is known as a right ITB stresser.
I had a nice ride this morning. The duration of my N. Bend Road area panic attacks are slowly diminishing every time I ride there. Thank goodness I know some good breathing exercises to get through that strech.
I'm definitely walking better now after the run.
45min on the arc, 30min on the recumbent and 15min on the treadmill.
Resting today after a busy weekend.
FYI, we just got a new book in at the store:
Run Less, Run Faster (Runner's World - Bill Pierce, Scott Muir, Ray Moss 2007)
I think some people had been asking about this title. Got ten copies and I bought the first one.
How much? I want one.
not nearly as tiring as substitute teaching in a kindergarten classroom all day. Ninety-three minutes; treadmill at 1% incline.
pigfarm road
late in the afternoon in Castine. Feeling much better than yesterday!
Curious if anyone is headed to the Cobscook Bay 10K on June 5th from the Ellsworth/MDI area. I'm on the fence about going and would prefer carpooling if possible.
Spun the loop road late.
First, feels great to have completed a marathon after what felt like a long time away...there really is something about that event that is so satisfying.
The race itself was a really odd one for me. I had stomach issues all day Saturday and into Sunday morning, but the issue abated for (essentially) just long enough for me to run the race. Started off right where I wanted to be--just around 7:00's for the first few. Austin and a pack were a minute + ahead, and I decided to track them down to have company through the hills. Met Ed (Crow) through the hills and he and I ran a nice stretch through 17-ish.--at this point, I was trending toward a 2:55.
Just past the 27K (or 15k to go) the race got very challenging for me. I felt very parched and though I never completely stopped sweating, I had to keep dousing myself at water stops to stay cool. I had very tough mental moments--wanting to stop--but was prepared to fight those demons with thoughts of Amy and Ewan at the finish...and it worked.
Held off the SAME GUY who passed me in the last mile in 2008; this required me to sprint to the finish and is a nice reminder that no matter how tapped you feel, it is still largely a mental game...because I had no business sprinting based on how I felt. Finished in 3:02:2X--about 7 minutes slower than what I was hoping for.
Great to run with so many familiar faces. Congrats to Mrs. D on #1, Spotter on the BQ, Suzanne on the PR and the rest of the crowd for participating in something so cool.
