What's your run?
easily in 52:10. Hip exercises.
This is the third run in a row that I truly enjoy. I feel strong and solid. This morning I ran 9.9 miles in 1:23:19 without a huff or puff. I get into this hypnotic state where I have little awareness of what is going on around me. This morning I felt like I was floating over the pavement not because I was fast but just because it was smooth running. Then all the sudden I took the turn onto the Main Street Bridge and woke up. Bang, back to reality. So far this week, all my workouts have been rock solid.
Mary/Dave can one of you guys remind me of the Dr. Dave recommend nutrition for the ½ tri (frequency of liquid and gel/blocks). I guess I need a prescription!
Only what you've done in training of course. Nothing new on race day.
That said Take in a meal a few hours before your wave starts. Easily digested foods, for me that's yogurt, a banana, maybe toast or a powerbar.
Sports drink 30 min. before the start to get digestion going again.
Water only for the swim and first part of the bike, first 5-10 miles. Then take 200-250 calories an hour, for me thats a bottle of sports drink and a gel. With heat you will need another bottle of water each hour as well.
For the run it's less, like 150-200 cal/hr. So just sports drink but ok to use a gell or two for a "pick up" benefit. If available I go to fattened Coke the last miles of a half or full Ironman. That sugar and caffiene mix still tastes good late into a race.
I won't "eat" during a half Ironman but will do some food halfway thru the bike for a Full IM.
Thanks so much for the info. I have gone back to very little nutrition during training so I will go by your info.
I look forward to seeing folks at the track after work.
Congrats to Jason for hitting his magic number a day early!!! Well done. How much have you lost so far?
I was in SWH this morning and dropped of my registration for the Flamingo 4miler :)
Yup, 3 miles. I got on and just a few minutes later got back off. I have been having insomnia issues and I really can't remember the last time I felt so exhausted. It seemed silly to try to work out when I feel so drained. Tomorrow is a new day. I hope to try maybe a 2 mile run....I can't wait any longer. If there is pain, I will make an appointment to see my doctor. Blah.
I've avoided discussing my weight much here on Eden but I really don't know why. Everyone I know (and some I don't know) knows how much I weigh, how much I've lost and how much I weighed when I started. Perhaps it may be because I feel like you folks are on an entirely different playing field than myself and that makes me feel a little ashamed (it shouldn't, I know). Anyway, today is a bit of a milestone for me personally as I've hit a point that only 6 months ago I thought was impossible and would have laughed in anyone's face who told me it would happen. On January 18 of this year I weighed 360lbs and I'm only 5' 8". Today, about 5.5 months later, I've weighed in at 299.2lbs an average loss of about .37 lbs per day. I have no idea when I last weighed under 300 lbs, but I bet it was early on in High School (freshman year maybe, if that).
I've been told that I'm an inspiration by many people, but you folks should know that you all are my inspiration. You all give me the drive to keep going and work for something I've never been able to do before. I'll never be able to thank Michele for everything she has done for me, I really owe so much of this to her. She was the one pushing me from the beginning and it was really what I needed to get going and look where I am now. I'm having so much fun and I feel the best I've felt in years.
45min on the Arc Trainer and 2.7M on the treadmill.
Jason all I did was tell you to get a membership at the Y and then after 12 months of seeing you yo-yoyoing with your weight I kind of dragged you to the Y. You all did the work!!!
you are a bit modest because you've done a lot more than that, but you are right, you did pretty much have to drag me to the Y.
Michele is modest. Getting support and having someone believe in you when you are doubting yourself is priceless.
But YOU did all the work.
Compared to many of the people who run for Eden, I am slow. But I'm incredibly speedy compared to when I started the couch 2 5k just over 2 years ago at 240 lbs. I've kind of slacked on the trying to lose weight bit the past 9months, but I've maintained a 70 lb loss so I'm fine with that :) There's some other Eden members too that have maintained some big weight losses (I won't name names) but know you are in good company.
Thanks, D. It's good to know I'm not alone here in Edenland.
jason, great to hear you are enjoying all the effort. Having a support team is huge, and Eden folk are great. Fantastic goal to meet weigh-wise, and I wish you all success going forward.
Enjoyed the 3 min, 4x200, rinse repeat with Mary & Helen and a wee bit with Shannon & Kev. Great seeing Judy, Vanessa, Jean, Diane, Maggie, Annie, Lou, & Zoe. Good company is such a huge help, especially with intervals. Jason, I haven't got to meet you yet, but the weight loss takes commitment and work - good job.
Great day and great crew at the track. I meant to just start the workout and then zip out to catch my newphew's baseball game, but on the second round Kevin and I got synched as far as sendoff times go and I just couldn't leave then. 800s were in the 3:06-3:08 range and the 200s were 45s with a few accidental quicker ones. Three sets for me, 4 for Kevin. Fun! I spent the next hour and a half in a cooling breeze with the sun going down on bleachers in shorts, though. Man I wish I'd warmed down a little.
Nice job Jason! I can't even wrap my mind around losing weight that quickly. Keep it up, if maybe at a little slower pace, this month. : )
Happy taper Michele.
I've wasted too much time already.
First open water swim and a full dose of sodium. It was a bit rough when I started but by the time I was done it was calm. Thanks to my co-worker Val for spotting me. I swim in her front yard. I hope to be able to do the remaining 4 swims all as open water. It is needed.
Shannon pretty much described it. It was a good, hard workout. Four sets was a definite challenge and I felt it for sure. But it was fun, especially with the great group that turned out. Thanks everyone!
I got to track and had zippo energy. Yes I have 'worked out' many days in a row, but nothing seemed that exhausting (except the Tour du Lac). Anyway, I rode my bike to work, not too strenuous, but I guess enough since at track I couldn't muster the energy to run easy more than 2 laps. Rest day tomorrow.
