Rabbit rabbit, white rabbit

Cold bath felt good (it was an ice bath but the cubes melted quickly).
45 on the Arc Trainer and First Strides tonight. We'll see how I well run in the heat, I need to do another 28 min run tonight. It's also Sept 1 so I'll give a little update on where I'm at weight wise. I'm down to 272.4 this morning which is a 10.4 lb loss for August and 87.6 lb total (since Jan 18). Not bad, but not great (by my standards). As much as I struggled early in the month I guess I'll take it, though. I'll also be graduating C25k next week which is exciting. I won't make it to the 5k distance but I'll be able to do the 30min run which should put me somewhere around 2.5-2.6mi. I've already selected my next plan of action which is called the One Hour Runner. A 10 week program designed to take you from the end of C25k to a one hour run. I really like the time based runs for now as it takes the focus off of speed and distance which are not my concern at this point. I think my speed will naturally improve with the continued weight loss.
by a theoretical 2 seconds per pound per mile.
"the difference between theory and practice is that theory is theory and practice is practice."
That estimate comes from metabolic equations. I usually can't resist chiming in with ex phys facts. (sometimes I open mouth insert mouse)
It is only valid under certain parameters (*word used in common, not mathematical sense), the most obvious one being that at a certain point you could below some ideal race weight (that requires another set of theory). An opposite example: I'm running faster now than I was 18 months ago, yet I was 15 pounds lighter then. There are a lot of factors, which I think is what you're getting at. But the mathematics of it are interesting -
It all has to do with VO2 max, a measure of aerobic capacity. Say your vo2 max is 64.4 mL/kg/min. If you decrease kg, mL/min increases. Higher aerobic capacity = oxygen delivered to muscles faster = you go faster
If you crunch the numbers that would put me around a 9 min/mi at my goal of 160lbs, I hope I'll be faster than that. It may be more applicable to an already conditioned runner.
very nice work Jason and what's wrong 9 min pace? I like it.
Keep up the hard work. I'm rooting for you! It seems as though you've already accomplished the hardest part of running. What is C25k?
C25k is the Couch to 5k program.
Couch to 5k
that sounds like a great program. I look forward to hearing about and hopefully seeing your progress!
Forgot to say rabbit rabbit again this morning. One of these months I'll remember.
Got in 5.3 with Judy and Oy after work yesterday. It was hot. Oy almost took us both out a few times chasing the dragonflies.
I'll be at First Strides, and hope to get in a few miles after.
Jason, congrats on your loss! 10.4 a month is great. When I was doing the weight loss thing, I found that my loss slowed down after the first 8mo. But it will come off. You are making the lifestyle changes that will keep the weight off. Keep up the great work.
48 min. Nice pockets of cool air in the fields along the Crooked Rd.
short because I found Vanessa just before 6 and we treated ourselves to a 3 mile stroll then bopped over to Echo Lake for a nice cool swim. My first intervals on the trail were this morning and I missed the company at the track. Nice work Jason & focusing on time will work well. Alyie, you are running well for any weight.
Hydrate well my friends! Life is good in the woods.
