Cliffs' Notes Word of the Week

sharecropping
(sher' kräp'iŋ)

The act of working farmland for a share of the crop, especially as a tenant farmer.

Sharecropping was a very slow way of building up a barn of one's own. After all the toil, one only got a third of the harvest. But for a young man whose father had no yams [to pass on to his son], there was no other way.

To counter an inauspicious title

may things stay solidly together for you.

Great Run

C25k W9D1 in the books (the final week!). Had a PR of my own this morning. Both of my first two miles were faster than my previous best mile time. Previous best mile was 11:51 and this AM my first mile was 11:18 and the second mile was 11:35. I covered 2.61 in 30min (running) and 3.22mi total including the warm up/cool down walks. My time to 3.1m was 38:36 so I at least have a 5K time now, and I know I could easily shave some time off of that in a race (assuming a course similar to what I ran this morning).

Jack Russell's Steakhouse Downhill Mile Information

Labor Day 5 miler

I think this is my favorite distance and race. Very fast start, tough middle, very fast ending. Great group of people, fast runners too! I was 1 1/2 min. slower than last year's time, to be expected though. 41:27. I've been running more, dabbling with speedwork and my legs are definitely feeling stronger. I wouldn't have changed a thing, I had a great day.
