What's your run?
run: 4.88 miles swim: 3100 yds
VC parking lot out to a turnaround point above Jordan Pond and back. Strong negative split for the second half. There are still areas of snow on the loop road, most notably a long stretch between Bubble Pond and the Bubble Rock parking lot. Some ice too- just about the slickest surface I've ever tried to run on! I must've looked comical, arms waving and feet treadmilling for grip. Quite a few people out, walkers and a few cyclists. Glorious day!
I could have warned you about that particular stretch between Bubble Rock and Bubble Pond.
Last week I went out for a joggy jog on the Loop Road, was fine until I got there - then took the spill to end all sprawling spills precisely there. As I was lying in the lane thinking "Ooowf" like a run-over opossum, a winter cyclist came whipping through. I thought "Oh no, he's about to catch it." He didn't so much as bat an eyelid, much less crash.
From my perspective (about two inches off the tar), it added insult to soreness.
I passed one cyclist as I was heading down passed Cadillac towards Bubble Pond (he was coming uphill) and made some joke about it being faster going my way - he just grimaced. I thought about what a humorless lot cyclists are, then came across the snow/ice stretch. Aha. His bike had looked like it had some skinny city-slicks on it, and his tracks wandered like a drunken sailor through the snow with several sideways slide-outs. Poor guy. I soon met two more people on mountain bikes, and they seemed to be having a blast.
