MDI Marathon

Oct 17. At the MDI Marathon, Chris G. took more than 4 minutes off her marathon PR to win the women's division and Judson set a new course record continuing his unbroken streak of three wins for three marathon starts.  John M. nailed closed any opening for disappointment that might have lingered from last year with a solid sub-4:00. In his first marathon --  despite being taken out perhaps imprudently fast by pacing partner and new Crow Dick Beardsley (who ran 2:53 only a week after running 2:44 in Victoria) -- Matt W. easily earned a Boston bib as well as an age-group first. Pete P., neck and neck with Steve C. at the finish, topped his division as well, as did Dr. David P. and Sharyn K.Harry B. met his goal with a Boston qualifier.  All this suggests a good contingent of Crows will be showing in Hopkinton next April.

And, hurdling every potential disaster thrown at him in the the last few hours before the race -- a genuine political controversy, a rust-frozen starting gun, finding himself locked into the Bar Harbor House's basement with no one anywhere having any idea of his predicament, and facing the prospect of lining up his runners under the year's freakiest thunderstorm and deluge -- at 8AM on Sunday Gary A. popped another flawless marathon out of his bowler.
