Iceburg Marathon, Bangor (1982)

I searched high and low in 1981 - couldn't find anything about the 2nd Annual Iceburg Marathon - this appears in 1982 as the "Third Annual Iceburg Marathon"

(from the Bangor Daily News, March 8 & 9, 1982)

Mark Dorian won the third annual Iceburg Marathon on Saturday in Bangor with a time of 2:42.53. The 22 year old runner from Lewiston covered the 26.2 mile route nearly six minutes faster than his closest rival, Bryant Bourgoin of Winslow. Nineteen runners, out of a field of 40, covered the entire distance.

More Great stuff the Great Downeast Marathon wasn't even mentioned in our Me thoning history discussions but I do remember it now. Good work for reminding us. This one could have just vanished. I ran the 81 Iceberg and have a certificate to prove it. I might have results or a clipping in an old log book out on Cranberry. I'm in Boston now and probably should go to Hopkinton in the AM to run 'THE' course what do you think? It would be my 3rd trip for 05! Why not!

81 Iceberg

I also ran the 81 Iceburg. I went to down Bangor from Presque Isle and I ran 3:41. Andy Palmer won the race and I believe it was on May 1st. I don't know if I could come up with the news clippings. I will see what I can do.
