Labor Day 5-Miler Reports

Just heard from Crows on the road:
Judson Cake set a new course record of 25:30. Go Juddy!
Andy Goupee was second in 26:55, Adam Goode 3rd in 27:14 and Jeff Caron right behind him. Phil LeBreton came in at 28+.
Cassie Hintz made a wrong turn on the course and so was about a minute off her time but still finished first. 2nd female was Kate McGuire, the MDI coach.
Other fab flyers were Peter Keeney in 9th at 30:24 and Brian Hubbell 10th at 30:40. Ty Daniel-Davis set a new P.R. by a lot finishing around 34 1/2 minutes. Great job Ty!!
More feathered folks to check out when the official results are up: Ryan King, Rob, Tom Kirby, Robin Emery, and Steve C.
Race conditions were pretty good: dry, cool, and just a little windy.

Labor Day results

Being the Rabbit has it's benifits...

I took Sir "Judson" out at a comfie 4:40'ish, but after giving JC the sign to move onto record town I still managed 5:44,6:26,5:46,5:23. With a two mile warm up and two mile cool down I managed to get in an amazing 9 miles today, cool!
Good gob everyone, it was nice to see Peter K and Gary again, it's been awhile..

Nice job everyone.

Congrats to all!

Course record!

Congratulations, Judson! I guess all those miles paid off, just as you knew they would. Truly amazing. And how about Cassie's wrong turn?? I can't even imagine how she must have felt once she realized it. She obviously recovered quite well, but still...

Great job all around, Crows! Sorry I wasn't there to holler, but it looks like you got 'er done without me.

report

Not to downplay Judson's record (but boy what he could do if he had someone to run with!), from my view the big accomplishment today was Peter Keeney's who, freshly paroled, made quite a statement for his first road race in many years.

Peter hung with me, right behind Jeff Sands, Glendon Rand, and Chris Jones for the first two miles and then (not surprisingly for his talents) just cruised by me on the hills. I thought I'd soak him back up on the downgrade, but it turns out Peter's not just an uphill runner these days. I cranked out 5:37 for the last mile and the gap he set never diminished.

I think overall I was a little too casual in effort again today but I did manage to overtake Jeff Sands at the end. I also heard footsteps coming up behind over the last mile and, with the memory of getting outkicked by Mikey Hibbits at Machias fresh on my mind, I decided that there was no way that was going to happen to me again. Fortunately I didn't realize that the guy trying to close on me was an 800m UM guy or I definitely would have lacked the required confidence. As it was I'll settle for being within 5 seconds of a PR.

Good to see everyone. Congrats especially to Judson and to Peter and Steve Calder for such strong showings on their respective returns to road racing.

RK Labor Day Report

I set out to run the first mile fast (5:44), second mile strong (6:16), third mile the best I could (7:02) and it's all downhill after that (6:41 & 6:07). Attempting to do the Crow Singlet proud in my own backyard, thank you Peter K for words of encouragement right before Holland Street Hill.

I ran 30 seconds faster than my previous PR at Blueberry a couple of weeks ago. Coming off last years race of 36:24, the 31:52 is a big drop in time. Feeling stronger day by day - looking forward to running a 5K again soon.

Great parts that I will remember...Finishing the first mile and knowing I had plenty of time in the bank. The chalkings (thanks for the lift - just what I needed nikeman.) Running down Main Street, thinking, this isn't as bad as it was last year.

Nice to meet Gerry Clapper. I've read much about his past performances, and it is always good to put a face with a name. I'm not sure how much is said about his past performances, his number "10" was retired at the Labor Day Race. He is now from Maryland, but is one of the Clappers from the running Clapper family of Maine. His past 5.2 mile performances on Labor Day included a 25:00 run and a mid-24 minute time as well. One of his fastest Terry Fox 5K Runs, as told by Ed Rice, in the mid-80s was 14:24. It was great to hear Gerry briefly talk about a Benjamin's 10K race in Bangor, outkicking at the end Bruce Bickford.

Great to see, hear, meet and witness a small bit of running history of Maine today.

Congrats -

to Judson for the new course record, and everyone else for their fast times too!
