Fun Race for kids to take to the streets

Again a yearly tradition makes way for an onslaught of costumed candy grabbin mongers, we call kids. Something about the tunnel lane of trees and gasping faces that becomes a stage that builds dreamscape memories that we enjoy seeing as parents. I guess were raising the need for that competitative edge and character building necessary in todays world and they're likin it. Seems so easy and simple.

Thank you ALL!

To: Matt H. & Sara, Matt W., Alyie, Dan (+3), Liddy, Ed & Chris G., Eve, Peter, Lou, Rob, Rick, Charlie, Frank, Lynn & Gordon, Susan, Lisa, Mark, Amy, Mary & David, the MDI YMCA, and Ben and Bill's Chocolate Emporium, Bar Harbor Police Department and Bar Harbor Ambulance crew

Thank you all for your help in putting on another great Main Street race this year. It's a very short event but also one that requires unusually intense coordination.

Given the possible complications from having a field of all ages running near breakneck speed down Main Strreet and passing 20 live intersections, I'm sure you all can imagine the degree of unavoidable anxiety the race director has in the hours right before the race And, so I'm sure you can also share my appreciation of that miraculous moment when --thanks to all of you -- Main Street momentarily clears of traffic and is given over fully to a field of costumed runners. The race is fortunate to have such a group of reliable volunteers and I want to say that I'm persoanlly grateful to have been able to depend on each one of you.

Particular thanks also:
to Ed and Chris Ganz for managing the race registration and registration supplies;
to the Bar Harbor Highway Department for the use of their cones and barricades
to the BHPD and FD for the leading and trailing vehicles
to the MDI YMCA for supplying the registration and finish line tables;
to: Maggie, Molly, Isabel, Olivia, Isabel, Sierra, Nora, Alyie, Susan, and Liddy for building the roadside Race Dementors and Ghoulies (and to the Bar Harbor Solid Waste Division for the base supplies)
to Liddy Hubbell for compiling the registration information and results,
to Rob Hetzer, the mad-hat race starter;
to Frank Hague, Alyie Dorko, Eve Harrison, Peter Keeney, Bonnie Tai, Mary Dudzik and David Painter for running a smooth finish line and giving out awards.;
to Paradis True Value Hardware and Ben and Bill's Chocolate Emporium for the prizes and candy;
to the MDI Marathon organization for the finishers' medals
and, not least, to the Town of Bar Harbor for loaning us such a fine Main Street.

Once again we were able to raise a significant amount of money for the Bar Harbor Food Pantry, an organization that knows how to leverage every dollar to benefit those in the area whose needs are urgent.

Last, if you have any ideas on how we could improve this event in the future, please let me know.

Thank you all

looks like you all

put on a great race, Sorry we missed it, we had a daycare childs birthday party to attend at the very same time! See you there next year!
