Musterds HistoryRK Notes - This was something that I found today that I thought was very interesting for history about Maine Running Clubs. It was mentioned in the June 3, 1980 Bangor Daily News written by Bob Haskell in his On The Run article/section. It's about a race in Camden that was run called the Reebok/Camden 10,000 Meter Road Race. This particular year Bob Hodge (29.33) and Joan Benoit were the overall champions. When I get back to it - I'll post more later... Andy Palmer, a Mars Hill man who has moved to Boston and who won the first Reebok/Camden 10,000 Meter Road Race, finished third in 30:28.6, but set the pace for a new Aroostook County running club which waltzed away with the team trophy. Palmer was followed by Bruce Freme (4th) and 1979 Paul Bunyan winner Sam Pelletier in 5th, Phil Garland in 6th. The club's name is Musterds and the members making the team's inaugural appearance in their bright orange shirts. |
