looking for a training schedule...

Hi Everyone-
It's CeCelia Palow, a.k.a babycrow....
When I was younger, as some of you may know, I had a lot of success with running. Now, through injuries and lack of motivation, I don't have my same drive and success for running, and it really bothers me. I have decided I want to get back into running, and I want to try really hard to get back to where I was. I know this will take a lot of time and effort and dedication, but I'm willing to do it. I miss running a lot, and I want to be back in it, and go to races every weekend, and succeed in cross country this year. I'm not doing spring track, because I want to volunteer for Middle School track, so I'm dedicating this spring and summer to get back into shape for cross country.
So I was wondering if anyone could put together a training schedule for me, I'm willing to run, but I don't know how much I should be doing, and the goals I should be setting for myself.
Thanks,
CeCelia.

Cecelia

It's good to hear from you and I'm glad you're thinking about running again. You have real talent and it's great that you want to train again.

I'm sure a lot of us are hesitant to advise you without knowing better what your goals are. Frequently the most common hazard in beginning a new training program is overdoing it early and then having to back off due either to injury or frustration.

Two things I'd suggest. First, speak with one of the high school coaches, if there's one you trust and feel comfortable with. Let them know your interest and just ask generally for their advice. Second, spend three to six weeks of doing short and easy runs of 20-30 minutes four to six days a week. That'll build up a running base and, just as importantly, gently get you back into a running habit without having it become something hard and difficult that you feel obliged to do or feel that you're risking failure if you don't.

This forum is a great place then just to check in and let us know how you're doing from day to day. I hope you do.

Best wishes,
Brian

Hi CeCelia

It's good to hear from you again.

I would suggest that at first, you just want your running to be fun. I would echo Brian's advice, to start with slow and easy runs.

Let us know in the daily log how you are doing. It is a good way to keep your motivation up. It may also inspire some others your age to participate too!

Hello CeCelia!

It is very good to hear from you, and to know that you are once again pursuing your running talents. I cannot add any advice beyond what has already been stated above, but I just want to welcome you back, and to wish you well in your efforts.

Please do keep us posted. As KJ says, it is great motivation, both for yourself and all the rest of us!
