Let's go play in the rain!
Tim, all day, at the Ultimate championships
JC, this evening, in the 3000
...and all the high school runners at the State Championships right here on MDI starting at 10:00.
been reading about Tim's Ultimate exploits for the past few months, but, can honestly say that I didn't know what "Ultimate" is - until today. I lead a sheltered life, folks. So, I finally looked it up to see what it's all about. It looks like a lot of fun, and I particularly like the sportsmanship aspect of it. Rules infractions are self-governed by the players - no refs. or umps.

my house to end of lurvey spring road and back. I got soaked!
Out and about in the park.
That's me again.
From Eagle Lake, the Witch Hole Pond Loop. I ran WHP at an up-tempo pace. I had hoped to break 30min to go around, but I went 45 sec over. Gotta work on that.
bopped along with songs from my rain list;
Rain And Snow 4:01 The Be Good Tanyas Rain 6:58 Candlebox Gutters Full Of Rain 4:22 David Gray Riders On the Storm 7:10 Doors When Will It Rain 4:34 Jackyl Let It Rain 4:58 Jon Bon Jovi When The Levee Breaks 7:07 Led Zeppelin Fool in Rain 6:11 Led Zeppelin I Wish It Would Rain Down 5:27 Phil Collins Purple Rain 8:40 Prince It's Raining Again 4:23 Supertramp And It Stoned Me 4:34 Van Morrison Rain on me 5:19 The Who Feel Like Rain 4:32 Buddy Guy with Bonnie Raitt
I picked a book up at the Blue Hill Library Sale this morning before Erich got his hands on it... It's called The Marathon by Marc Bloom. In it, there is a paragraph about Dr. Steven Subotnick, an enterprising podiatrist who wrote a book called The Running Foot Doctor. He also sang a sang and has recorded "Marathon Song" on the Subotnick Label. (The flip side of the record is "Daydreams of a Night Jogger." and the Bee Gees have not yet asked to borrow the lyrics...
Herewith, from "Marathon Song"
Don't live for tommorrow For today is still young Feeling good as we're running Life again has begun When we're out on the road, friends Only one truth we know 26 miles is a long, long way, 26 miles is a long, long way, 26 miles is a long, long way to go.
My hip is still a little crabby, so with the rain as added incentive, I opted for the more forgiving surface of my treadmill deck. With my 90 (or 180, depending on whether you are a double-counter or not) bpm songs. I will go add them to the list now, if you all promise not to laugh...some of them are pretty dorky.
comes around Chris G.Looks like some of team Maine-iac imported some aches and pains.
up to no good...
5 miles moderate pace. found a penny heads up! time now to dry out the sneakers.
workout.I'm giving the rain a chance to break as I finish my last cup of coffee but it does not look good.Coming down steady in Portland and wind moving right along at 20mph.I don't listen to music while I run but when on my indoor bike I'll throw in a concert video of the kind I acquired but am not supposed to have. The Who in Cleveland 1975 during "By Numbers" tour is fun. They were so loud and raw in the Keith Moon era. Dave T.
I wish it would let up; my bike keeps giving me this sad, 'you're neglecting me' look.
On the other hand, you can't split wood in the rain, so I got to spend the whole day reading on the couch :D
Heavy wind and rain at the Bentley track. Dark too, I guess, as the track has no lights and the race started after 8:00.
Anyway, JC got an 8:43 out of it which beats his previous best 3000 meter times, both track and downhill at Walter Hunt. So what's a little rain and wind?
The field was mostly 5K and 3K guys -- probably safe bet that JC was the only marathoner running there this evening. Bonus: he passed a couple guys at the end and finished 7th in the field of about 12 runners. Steve C. came down to watch. Probably not too many other spectators there in those conditions either.
JC drove down this afternoon and is driving back tonight -- arriving back in Bar Harbor well after midnight. May or may not make the Sunday morning run.
Boston and Portland close enough so I know what he dealt with for his race.Steady rain and wind.He must of got soaked to the bone.Rain never subsided so I stayed indoors.27.5 miles on bike then usual core 500 pushups/crunches. Dave T.
You obviously enjoy running in nasty weather. Good thing you live here!

Witch Hole Pond on Saturday morning with Megan M. and Zoey. I couldn't believe all the people out running in the rain. A few years ago I never would have considered running in the rain. I guess I've toughened up in my old age.
Chris G., Thanks for posting your song list. I was able to use several of your picks:)
I have a Life Fitness elliptical trainer that came from Fitness East in Trenton. It is a monster of a machine with a built in heart monitor. I have noticed recently my heart rate reads 5-6 beats slower when listening to music than it does when I watch TV.
but first I helped a friend move into his new apartment and got a nice upper body workout. He's a Bulgarian citizen and will be running the 1500m at their national meet fairly soon. They're not quite as deep in the 1500 as some countries so he actually has a chance to win. Anyway, after that I ran an easy 8, went to the year end concert by the university symphony and choruses, and collected payment for my moving assistance in the form of dinner. With studying for finals this week, it was a pretty well packed day.
=)
