Margaretta Days

Hi Edens, Ty and Ozzy will be running the Margaretta Days 10-miler. This is the first time Ty does a long race like that, mom and dad has asked him to listen to his body and go slow, but you all know Ty he doesn't know what slow is. Any advice for him? Good luck all at Y10k tomorrow.Mama Crow Ty Can Fly

H2O

Maybe try to drink a little water along the way.

Stay within yourself the first few miles, focus on pushing the middle miles and hammer home. Good luck Ty. Just have fun.

Smooth Run Ty

Ty - You did very well at Cobscook in the 10K - So, Just keep it smooth and steady in the beginning. Memorize what JC wrote - he's giving you sound and simple advice. It's about sustaining yourself over the distance. Oh, and don't forget to have fun!!

Ty Can Fly

You are a smart racer, and will do fine. Try and remember how you felt in the 10K last week, and keep your pace just a bit slower so that you have enough left to stretch it out for a few more miles. Stay focused and relaxed, and before you know it you will have a 10-mile PR!

Good luck, and let us know how it goes!

5.5M

in about 42 min. Not clear but not raining although a slight mist at times. Perfect running weather. Upper body, abs, and back weights and Nautilus ... stretches, too. Might be a tough ride up this evening. Probably won't run the 10K since I'm donating blood today ... could probably use the rest, but I'll still be there.

Keep running!

Karen about that 10k...

Have fun watching my calf muscles and other cute things on the back of me during the race;) B R I N G I T O N!!!!

6 miles easy on the 10K course

Ran the Y's Spring 10K course, just to check it out and I must say I think it's going to be a good course.

Two things you'll want to keep in mind: Just before the 2-mile mark, you'll want to be sharp for the turn-around on Route 3 by the Sieur de Monts entrance to the Park Loop road, as cars are liable to be doing 60 around that blind turn coming at you. And, if you're expecting the old Spring 5-K course for the second half, keep in mind that this course instead turns left from Park Street onto Ledgelawn instead of continuing straight and then turning onto Glen Mary. The consequence is that, just before the 4-mile mark, you get the full bulk of the Cromwell Harbor hill all at once beginning from the Ledgelawn intersection instead of hitting it already halfway up at as you did entering at the intersection with Glen Mary.

The course is very clearly marked by the MDI Marathon folks who have joined with Eden Athletics to cooperatively support this local event and assumed the job of course layout and marking. If anyone goes off-course on this race, it won't be the MDI Marathon's fault.

See you all out there tomorrow.

Seems to me

That the course should be pretty fast for MDI standards. The first 3.9 miles is pretty fast even though you have to peak at Jackson Lab twice, but that hill is easy both ways and you can easily make up ground on the downsides. Once you hit the top of the Cromwell Harbor Hill(4-miles) it's all downhill for the last 2.2 miles. If I were racing I'd run it like a 4-miler and hope my legs got back under me by the bottom of Kebo road.

Will there still be a 5-mile mark? That's important you know for a 10-k.

Knowing the Park's position on such things....

...I'd say that'd be an excellent place for a '5' made out of masking tape.

Maybe I am not understanding English today...

Just where does this course go?

10K course

...Starts on Main Street at Park St.
south on Route 3 past the Lab to the Sieur de Monts entrance,
turns around,
back on Route 3 to Park Street,
left (west) on Park and up to Ledgelawn
left (south) on Ledgelawn
right (west) on Cromwell Harbor Road and up hill
left (south) on Kebo
left (east) on the Park Loop Road
left (north) on Ledgelawn extension
right (east) on Park Street
finish is at the crosswalk right in front of the Y.

Thanks Brian

I am going to be the sweeper.

Thanks Brian 2

I've seen markings on my commute this week but was having trouble trying to figure out where we were supposed to go when. This helps a lot.

Glad JC thinks the Jackson Lab hill is such a minor issue. I for one will need to be conservative on both sides of it.

Just get er done

Oh, r'll git done I reckon

I just expect to resemble Larry the Cable Guy far more than you in both speed and physique along the way.

7-miles

7-miles and some strides. Tried to run Eagle Lake really easy but failed(37:35), I just got thinking about what I want to dress up as tommorrow for the 10-k and next thing I knew I was done Eagle Lake and felt so good I went another mile before making myself stop. I guess I need some old folks to help me out pacing!!! Hopefully I didn't tire myself out too much for the 7-miler this Sunday in Conn. I need all my strength against the Kenyans.

Good luck, John, Mike and BH PD

wishing a great relay torch run !!!
Bonnie

7 miles

It wasn't bad out this morning, but it wasn't good out either. Sorry I had to miss this years Torch Run, as I had run it the previous 5 years. It was always fun, well supported, and a relatively easy 20 miles.

19 plus great miles.....

Did the torchrun with Mike B. and several police officers and wardens. The weather was perfect. We could smell that dead whale rotting all through trenton. (Nasty!) Great run, great group, great cause!

hello, Bike, lets be friends

or not. 1:43, with several almost-spills. Here's the deal, Bike: we're doing a half-ironman in ten weeks, and you WILL be nice to me.

Biking hazards for runners

oh no!

poor guy =(

I'm serious about my bike cooperating, though. If it doesn't, maybe Brian would be willing to make the thing into a salad spinner for me!

For most bikes,

...just the threat is sufficient. :-)

Most bikes have good hearts, they're just a little high strung.

7.7 half route sans Eagle Lake

Just not able to get the spring back in the legs. Ah well, great to be out there.

Saw the tourch run crowd as they were headed up the hill out of Hulls Cove. Nicely done John, Mike, and others!

Way to go, torch runners!

Sorry I missed it...well, except for the rotting dead whale part. I am still in semi-recovery mode, resting up a bit and trying to work out some minor kinks. Amy P and I ran about 9 miles, Amphitheater + Hadlock, and we actually saw some blue sky for a while!

I am glad to be timing and not running the 10K tomorrow...Ginger is going to be a force to be reckoned with. Looking forward to seeing lots of Edenistas crossing the finish line!

You mean

You don't want to run the 10-k with me? I'm dressing up just for you!!!

Here's a fun website.

I had better eat my Wheaties!

I'm not sure what scares me more, Ginger or the course description. Somehow I'm not assured by JC calling the hill 'easy'.

6M in Orono

day off from work, but not from running. Brisk run along the bike path and Old Town neighborhood loop. Nice day for a run. Watched some of the Special Olympics going on at the UMaine Track. Looks like all the athletes are having a great time out there. Makes me happy because happy feet are always found on the track.

Torch Run through Downtown Bangor about 4 pm.

Biking the Park Loop in dark fog

-- but no rain. 20 1/3 miles. Felt good to get out. Not a lot of traffic and only passed one cyclist.

I assume

no cyclists passed you?

yea, baby

you got that right. Not me and not my bike neither.

Couple of runs

5 on the mill yesterday, 5.5 around Witch Hole from Eagle today. Nothing special, but not bad either, my legs feel pretty normal.

4 miles

at the City Forest. Few people. Many mosquitoes.

It is a brave soul to even TRY to pass Liddy on her bike.

10.? miles

..... Conners Emerson School to Eagle lake via Eagle lake rd, 7 bridges, Eagle Lake loop.

6 miles

walking with my mother in law. She said I almost killed her and I'm now having guilt for dragging her along. But it was good for her!

Four plus hilly miles, lots of cable weights

and a case of World Cup Fever. No stretching.

Good running torch run crew.

Germany defeats Costa Rica

no rain

duck brook at around 5, no rain, but no paradise hill, I figured the fog would ruin the view. Saw Carol out on her bike.

Cassie runs 16:29

Cassie Hintz ran a 16:29 road 5-k.

Special Olympics Torch Run

JohnM talked me into this on Thursday evening. It didn't require much arm twisting. It's cool to carry a torch and inspiring to run past MDI Workshop, hearing cheers from the group on the front lawn. 19.3 miles.

morning 12

An easy 12 in the morning, my last run in Chicago for a few months. After that I finished up my packing, said goodbye, and took the bus to the airport.

Friday Totals

Running/walking = 122
Swimming = 5000
1:43 on bike, 20.33 on bike
