Saturday, June 10: Daily Log

Good Luck, Ty and Austin in the Margaretta 10-miler
and to all running the MDI YMCA 10K and fun run!

Watch out for attitude and funny outfits.

Good luck and have fun

To all racing today. Wish I could come, but I have to be at work before the race even starts. Jump in some puddles for me, no use trying to stay dry!

10-k

10-k with Matt, had a blast.

Off to western Conn.

Good luck Peter K!

at the laurel highlands ultra! 70.5 miles. Geez!

Laurel Highlands Ultra

Hi John, I was unable to finish due to a real bad ankle roll. I was able to walk out of the woods at mile 46 and get a ride to the finish. I am home and barely walking and heading to the doctor this morning. I think it may be a high ankle sprain with possible ligament damage. This will put me out up to eight weeks and cancell my races for July and possibly August.

Happy Trails.
Peter K.

Ouch!

So sorry to hear that, Peter. Take good care of that ankle.

Sorry to hear that Peter

Best of luck with your treatment and recovery.

Oh man

Very sorry to hear it ended that way for you Peter. I know you were in great shape and ready to have a terrific run. Nothing you can do when the trail bites you that bad though--glad to hear you're on your way to the doc and hope you are able to recover quickly.

=(

sorry to hear about the ankle sprain. I'm sending good healing vibes your way :)

sorry about your injury...

take good care of it. You'll be back soon

Peter, that sounds awful

I am sorry to hear it, and hope your ankle is feeling better, and that the doctor gave you some good news. Let us know how it's going!

MDI YMCA Spring 10K: RESULTS

...and 1-mile Fun Run: RESULTS

Outkicked by Davy Crockett

Fun times at the Bar Harbor 10K, even if I got outkicked by some crazy guy in a mullet.

10 miles with the warm-up and cool-down.

very happy

Didn't know I had 8:20's in me. I believe it's a pr for me, one time I may have done something close to that on flat ground. I'm getting better at pacing myself, that's cool too! Nice job Karen, your plan worked well! Amy, you were looking good too. Great job to all of you Eden runners!

Y 10K

Congratulations to all the runners today!

I had a great time. I really liked the course and I have to admit the first hill wasn't all that bad:)

Thanks to all the volunteers who braved the weather to come out and help the Y. It was great to see everyone working together.

10k

Nice seeing everyone at the Y race today. Rain held off and I placed in my age group (was last in my age group, as well). One fellow runner recommended I put the Ramones on my i-pod and he outkicked me at the end so I am going to try it.

Thanks for soup and cookies, Liddy.

Ramones

Amy, here are 3 Ramones songs that have 90 bpm or so: Blitzkrieg Bop, Judy is A Punk, and Sheena is A Punk Rocker

...and to cool down

Margaretta 10 miler

I left the house at 6am. It was cloudy, but very humid. When we got to Machias... it was a different story. Mother Nature dropped a big bucket of water on us. It seemed like it wouldn't stop, which it didn't til' an hour after I got home. It was thundering and lightning too. The 10 miler was cancelled, so i had to do the 5k. First mile steady and strong, second mile the wind pushed me, and tried to hold me steady, and 3 mile was ok, not too too bad. My time ended up being around 20:30. I still came in second overall though. Ozzy came in first with a blistering time of 18:56. Ozzy and I were disappointed that they didn't change the name of the run to the Drowned Rat 10 miler, but we had fun.
I thought before the race, I think I would do pretty good in the 10 miler, but after the race I realized that by the time I was half way there, I would be out of energy from the wind.
Good Luck Judson, Congrats to all that ran the MDI YMCA 10k, and good job Nora in the 1 miler.
Thanks for all of the advice, I think I might do the Casablanca 10 miler.
Anyone doing the St. Andrews 5 miler?
Tycanfly Run For Fun

Good job, TyCanFly!

Seems like Mother Nature had other plans for you today, and you made the best of it. Second overall! That is amazing, especially in those conditions. When is the Casablanca 10 miler? Keep up the good work!

Sorry

Sorry about that. I had a blonde moment. I meant the Tour De Lac 10 miler. That's on June 24th.

7mi through WaterWorld

Early morning run before the Y 10K. Water water everywhere - The front lawn of a house up the street from me now has a small pond, complete with a couple ducks. The good news is there seemed to be fewer slugs. They probably have all drowned.

Nope

They haven't drowned, they have all relocated to Somesville.

It was fun

seeing all the great running today, including at least a few new PR's, including Ginger, Karen and Mary. (Be sure to post those on our records page, by the way.) After all the excitement died down, I enjoyed the company of Matt and Brian for a misty run around Eagle Lake, wherein we discussed the different ways that passers-by react to runners.

Yet another Y 10k

The weather was shockingly good for running, and I ran better than expected with a 6:20 pace. Notes: Matt said before the start that he was going to run 6:30s. Yeah, right, I passed the one-mile marker at 6:29 and he and JC were already 30 seconds ahead. The woman's winner, Meaghan from Reading, MA (not PA) is a heckuva racer. She stealthed me completely, didn't hear her coming at all, timed her kick perfectly to leave me 2 seconds behind. I'll have to work on that. The course was good, but the hill on Cromwell hurt quite at a bit at 4 miles.

One milestone--my first ever masters victory :-)

6 more

6 miles of extended cooldown, as mentioned, with Chris and Brian.

Don't blame me for those 6:30s, Mark -- Judson said he was going out at 7 minute pace!

Great job, everyone.

6 miles easy

Eagle Lake, with Matt and Chris at the usual pace -- I could set my watch by it at this point.

Thanks to everyone who helped out at the finish line today. Everything went smoothly, Chris and Kev proved remarkably adaptable when Chris's timer failed and they went from Plan B to C without a hiccup. The new race software I think was a success, too. Good test run all around, anyway.

River loop

with some surges that I suspect were unperceptible to all but the trained eye. Friendly Fleet Feet (Townside Festival, Roanoke VA) people were along the river path at a water/gatorade table they set up on the weekends to supply runners out on long training runs. A helpful, and much appreciated gesture in the summer months. Ten or twelve Team in Training runners, all in their team shirts, were gathered around their coach receiving final instructions before setting off on a group run. I suspect they are doing the Rock n' Roll Half in Virginia Beach in a few months.

Good running at the Y 10K. Keep bringing it on!

9 miles

core,8 miles on bike.Great job all who raced today.I was hedging for either Market Square 10K or Close to Coast 10K but plans changed Fri night with a surprise early b-day party for me in Kennebunk.A good job done by all and I was completetly caught off guard.Great food, gifts and St Pauli Girl in abundance.I got a ride home afterwards and did 20 miles on bike then core exercise while half drunk which was interesting. Dave T.

Happy Birthday, DT

Welcome to masters' racing! Sounds like you marked the milestone appropriately. (You know the album cover I'm thinking of.)

Surprise!

Glad you enjoyed your birthday party. As Brian says, welcome to the "other side". Happy birthday!

Thanks

as Brian and Chris G. prove,40+ includes many talented runners.A taste of where I'm headed as of 6/16,see the overall winner of Redhook 5K. Dave T.

nice races

A brisk 12 today. I saw several old friends drive by, and even ran into one who was running. We stopped and chatted for a few minutes. Every time I've come back from Chicago, I've noticed the hills, but this time seemed harder for some reason. I think I'll be used to them in time for the 8.5 miler on Fathers' Day though.

good luck cpev

with your summer racing.Your running in Prague sounds real interesting.

Thank you

and a belated happy birthday as well.

7.5 on bike

About 7.5 miles on bicycle. 1 mile sweeping for the Kids fun run and a little more than 6.2 sweeping for the 10K.

7 miles

The run had a few sights not seen awhile, the sun and my favorite insect, the dragonfly.
