What are you training for?

Chris and Judson are training for the Chicago Marathon (right?). Ginger and Rick are training for the MDI Marathon (right?). Tom and I are training for the Bay State Marathon (right!) and will be volunteering at the Maine Marathon. It would be great to know what other events (dates and locations)people are training for so we can learn more about them (why did you choose that event?)and offer course (or other) support when possible.

If anyone is running the Maine Marathon please let us know if we can help in any way.

We chose the Bay State Marathon (Oct. 15) because it is relatively close to home, flatter than a pancake and has the highest percentage of runners qualifying for Boston, not because it's in scenic Lowell, Mass.

college swim season

MUWAHAHAHA

and hoping the tri fitness will catapult me to a fall marathon PR and a Boston qualifying time.

Maine Half Marathon...

...a few more Sub5 series races, and probably Philly.

A killer cross country season

and, dare I say it? Making varsity, and perhaps even helping the team get to nationals again. Who knows, I've had a nice summer of training. Those are the dreams, anyway.

Chicago is right

and I picked it mostly for its flatness. And because I thought it would be fun to run with 39,999 other people and be cheered on by 1.5 million spectators. I'll plan to do the NEH 5-miler this Saturday and the BH Half. That's it for me!

.... Why the MDI Marathon?

-(why did you choose that event?) you ask...

Hmmmm ... because it's here, because it's my first, because it's on the roads that I travel every day, because I'll know where I am at every point along the way, because I'll always know when the next hill is coming up, or down ... because I'll know how far away the finish line is at any point, because I just might know some of the people along the way, because there may be a few of my present or past students out there to cheer me on .... because it's one of the most scenic marathons anywhere, because if I can run the MDI Marathon in a respectable (for me) time, then I can probably run a less hilly marathon in a slightly more respectable time, thus maybe PRs can exist down the road....

BH1/2, Maine 1/2 and MDI

The BH1/2 and Maine 1/2 as a warm up to MDI. MDI this year will make five in a row, I hope.

The Maine 1/2 (or full if you choose) is only 1 hour from my home. It's a great relatively flat course. And the real kicker is the second year I did it, I signed up the morning of (as I did previously) and the volunteer said you don't get a shirt since I didn't sign up before. A week later a shirt was mailed to me with an apology from the race director saying everyone should have received a shirt. I'll never forget that ... now that's service and an eye for detail.

Keep running!

Steve at Maine 1/2

I'll let you know what water stop we'll be at. If you want us to have something there for you or you want to drop something and get it back later, we can do that. This is a fun race to be a part of; it's a bigger race with a small town feel.

And the race director...,

...one should note, is an Edenista.

Props for all those admirable qualities.

Thanks!

I'm usually pretty self reliant during a run. But I'll defintely be looking for you though.

Keep running!

Generally local events.

My plans include the NEH 5 miler, the BH 1/2 and the MDI marathon. This Saturday will mark the 1st anniversary of my first race, the BH 1/2 is an easy pick relative to where it falls in a marathon training program, and my reasons mimic Rick's for why MDI.

NEH, BH 1/2

Two beautiful courses!

Go, Lid!

Keep running!

NEH and BH 1/2

I am taking a break from marathon training. I will probably give it another go some day but not in the near future.

I have never run the NEH race. On which end of Sargent Drive do you start?

NEH map

If you go to the event listing, you can click on the course map

Thanks!

The description says a mixture of hills and flat, but I remember that direction of Sargent Drive being mostly downhill. Yes?

Greylock Trail Marathon or Pisgah Trail 50k

I am lining up two events in case arrangements do not work for child care. After that I am looking at Great Pond and MDI if I am injury free. I will look to throw in at least one other road race in the next month but am not sure where.

Happy Trails.
Peter K.

P.S. The N.East Harbor course has some climb in the first mile and then again around three just before the golf course. Then just a slight hill with some turns to steal your momentum at the end. Hope that helps you Karen.

Lobsterman and Clearwater 70.3 tri's

Lobsterman oly. distance is 9/16, same as the BH half.

Clearwater FL 70.3 is the World Championship and will be 11/11.

It's been a long time since

my "goal" race was a 5k: the Komen race in Bangor on 9/17. My life is so topsy-turvy at home right now that I can't really plan for anything else, and at least my entry fee is going to an excellent cause if I can't make it to Bangor that day.
