Do you believe that my being stronger or faster has anything to do with my muscles in this place?

chris g are you doing labor day 5 miler

if you are how far are you running on sunday karen s and ginger what are you running tommorrow i plan on being at the 8:00 run

I am not

running the Labor Day 5-miler on Monday, and am going to try for 22 tomorrow, twice around Eagle-Bubble Jordan. See you there!

so...

I have a crazy workout today and would love some company. I'm starting at the JP house and following specific sign posts to a very large hill. I will be running surges up the hill. I don't really know where I'm going, anyone want to come, you could even ride a bike next to me. I'm starting at app. 11:30 and it's 10 miles total.

11 mi.

on the 1/2 M course. Thanks for the support B. Took Gu twice -- which sat well with me. Sooooo much better than Gatorade. With the exception of the back side of EL that course seems to be entirely up hill -- with a couple of spots that aren't as steep.

And to catch up: 6 mi. on each of Tuesday and Thursday. 9x hill repeats totalling 1600 ft. elevation. Not as technical as Peter K's run up Caddy but a lot of loose gravel. Hope you have a nice time Ginger. This must be hill season.

8.4 plus

a mile or so with the First Strides group. Great to hear of Donna's progress, and her success with her plantar fasciitis treatment.

Excellent run, Liddy! You are going to kick butt at the half!

Ginger, how'd your workout go? Assuming you found your way there and back.

10 total Bayview miles

Yesterday ran a bit with my son, then warmed up 2+, ran 2.3 in 14:42 (6:23 pace if you're counting), then a short warmdown for 5.5 total. The faster part felt pretty smooth leg-wise, but my breathing got awfully gaspy for that moderate a pace. Still, I think I can break 20 at Komen if I run a decent race, and that will satisfy me after so much downtime this summer.

Then this morning ran slow the whole Bayview horseshoe plus a little more for 4.5.

happy now

I get a bit anxious before heading out for my first long run in awhile. Today's 18 mi run went well so I'm relieved about that. I ran Aunt Betty's, Eagle and Witch Hole.

It was a really nice atmosphere at Eagle Lake this morning with lots of running friends about. There also were a lots of families with very young and cute kids. Two bicyclists went by me singing out load.

The most interesting encounter was at the top of Conner's Nubble on the carriage road. I was coming up the hill and a older man said to me out of the blue "How many miles are you running today". This got my attention, so I slowed to a walk, and said "Oh, I am just running 18 today." "I'm about halfway done". This got his attention. He was with another man and a young woman. It turned out he used to run so we chatted a bit about the BH Half and the Boston marathon (I had on a BAA T-shirt).

Finally he looks at me and says gesturing at my ectomorph body, "It looks like you do lots of running." Then he grabs his endomorph belly and laughs "I don't!"

10 plus 11.5 catch up miles

I put in 10 this afternoon around Seawall, pausing to see Steve C as he drove past. I felt great after taking 2 days off from running, the last mile was 6:04. The 11.5 was on Wednesday, from Parkman to WHP, 7 bridges, around mountain, down to Brown Mtn. gate and up the road to Parkman parking. I would be hard pressed to name a spot with better PM views than at the top of that hill.

1987 Bangor Labor Day 5 Miler - Sept. 7th

Here are partial '87 results - 169 total finishers. Hopefully, Brian can stick it in the correct spot. Notice the depth of the field. Top 30 are under 30:00. In '87 the course started near the entrance of the Auditorium. Not sure of the street - Dutton maybe? Anyway, we ran down a short but steep hill and hooked a left onto Main Street and followed the same loop it does today until we got back to Dutton. We then hooked right onto Dutton, ran up the hill and onto the end of the harness racing track. And down the stretch we went! The finish was at the far end of the stretch in front of the grandstands. And the Red Sox were 64 and 72, 18 1/2 games out of first place.

Labor Day, 1962

Bruce....Nice race discription....THE actual "first" race held on Memorial Day, 1962, was won by Mike Kimball (UMO) (actual 4.8), the course was a little different (& short), went in thru the fence before the "PAUL BUNYAN", & once around the track...the course has changed a few times & that explains the different times....I came in second that day ('62)...Kimball was quite a runner...won Portland a couple of times & twice ran over 12 miles to the hour in the late 60's on the track; beat a couple of Olympians in the process....B

18 miles

A long run in nice weather, including strides and followed by a very long lifting workout.

Saturday Totals

Running/Walking = 94

Good to see Donna again and to welcome Jill to the First Strides Program.
