I'm going running - Would you like to come?!
on legs a bit sore from acting like a kangaroo yesterday!
Congratulations to all of you who ran in multiple marathons and races over the weekend. Very impressive all around. I was trying to feed off your momentum and got a 3 mile run in this morning; got off the treadmill, stretched, and realized I'd put on two different running shoes. I'm a little sleep deprived.
Thirteen-ish miles on Saturday and five+ miles on Sunday.
So much energy out there this weekend! Caught up in all the excitement, I realize I forgot to post my weekend runs, which were the same as Shannon's:
13 on Saturday and 5 on Sunday. 7 more for today. I am pretty sure I had matching shoes on each time.
7 for me too.
I have some things of yours from yesterday: a purple jacket, some warm-up pants, gloves and maybe a hat. Let me know how I can get them to you, although I've been eyeing that purple jacket, and may have to keep it. After all, possession is 9/10ths of the law, right?
if those items go missing! I chased down poor Ed and tossed clothes at him on my way up to the Bangor Airport yesterday. The pants are Karen's; all other clothing is Ginger's. Sorry I didn't reconnect with you guys to get it back to you yesterday. I hope one of you grabbed my pants (in Ginger's vehicle) so you didn't freeze.
I'll give it up for Chicago, but after that I'll have to chase you down for it. My only chance of catching you would be directly after your marathon... actually....no, I wouldn't even catch you then, not yet anyway- I need a little more coaching and time. If you don't mind, just keep my stuff in your trunk. I'm sure I'll see you at the lake soon. I think my problem yesterday was lack of fuel in the first half. I don't think I was taking in quite enough to keep those legs turning over. I think I know what hitting the wall is now. I've never experienced such a lack of energy before. My legs feel good today, no where near the discomfort I had after Sugarloaf.
I've been trying to call you all morning, what in the heck is up with your phone??? I keep getting a voice talking about a mailbox or something.
7 mi easy running thinking of everyone who ran yesterday's MDIM and their huge efforts.
Off topic, anyone heading to Bangor tomorrow morning. I would like to hitch a ride if possible.
do you need to be in Bangor? I can bring you.
This last weekend. Seemingly a lot of smiles and good times.
Meet was interesting. Ran in the higher 28's (again, on a 1:30-2 minute course roughly) and actually took my first ever fall on the steep downhill right before 6k. Forgot how daunting a lot of the hills actually were. Definitely changed the race-outlook.
Took 4th against some decent comp, even led for about a mile and a half, got a t-shirt...not much else I can say.
Time to regroup and gear toward the RPI invite at Saratoga this weekend. It's about time to break 27.
-Chris
tomorrow I see on the calendar. Is this a local meeting or something? Does anyone have additional information?
I'm going to meet Chris* Almy for an Eagle Lake run run. He's in town for the week for a prosecutors' conference with the rest of the DAs in the state. We did this last year and a couple of the other DAs from southern Maine came along. It was fun. Just a nice easy social run at dawn -- no more, no less.
just to work out some kinks. Nice and easy. Saw Don B and KJ (seperately). Great time to reflect on yesterday.
A belated thanks to Shannon for your understated kindness.
for 74oo yds, with a best time for a 2oo (the last one). I'm not sure why it is that I swim most of my best times at the end of long sets - I think it's easier to descend to a fast time than to start out with one, but it's ridiculous that my fastest one is the last of sixteen! Why can't I hit that pace for a single, isolated 2oo?! Frustrating.

Jill and I ran the Witch Hole 3.3 mile loop today (our first run together was there on Sept. 9th). We definitely are running more of it all the time - walking/recovery time is less frequent and shorter duration. Feeling equally proud of both of us! Congrats to all the marathoners - at this point you're all celebrities in my eyes.
Good work, Shelly and Jill! You should be very proud of yourselves! Are either/both of you planning to do the Rolling Bones 5K?
of my parent's house. Well... I really didn't find it, it's been right there all along, but, because there was 30 years of stuff stacked on top of it, I'd never bothered to dig into it. It must've been the phase of the moon or something because I finally got the urge and dug into it this weekend and let me tell ya, there's some pretty good stuff in there. Oodles of photos dating back to 1919 and the early 1920's for starters. Suffice it to say, automobiles and bathing suits didn't look like they do today. I knew you'd all be anxious to hear about this, so I won't bother telling you that first thing tomorrow morning, I'm going to visit my grandparent's in the cemetery and ask them why the heck they didn't label any of the umpty-nine gazillion photos in the trunk.
Keep running everyone!
Back from India, I thought when I got to Bubble Pond Sunday at 8 sharp I might catch a couple of folks, run a few miles, then drive back home into SW Harbor to cheer on some finishers - but didn't see anyone! Nonetheless, did a beautiful 7-miler over to Eagle Lake and around, and was so happy for the great weather for all the marathoners.....congrats to all......hope to see everyone again soon.
Walking. Slowly. Then I dropped something at the grocery store and had to just leave it there.
But I did receive acknowledgement and acceptance of my entry for the 111th running of the Boston Marathon today. Also, my sister-in-law qualified by running the Baltimore Marathon on Saturday, finishing in 3:32+.
I just got back from Machias where I ran the D.A.C. race. It was really close between Eric Leighton and I, but I kicked it up with about three quarters of a mile to go on the 3.1 mile course and won. Our team placed second overall and we did great. I was happy with the time of 18:49 knowing that it was a tough course. Too bad I don't get an award til' next spring when they have the rewards... I still have eastern maine, states, and a possible long shot in New Englands to go in the season. Ty Davis
...and belated happy birthday! 18:49 is an amazing time on any course. Way to finish strong in that last stretch!
Sunday was brilliant and it was a joy to see people out there – Alyie pogoing madly and doing more miles vertically than I did horizontally, Chris at 22 cruising alongside for a bit in dungarees, with total ease – could not talk her into pushing me into Southwest ...
got to run with cool people. Joe Ewings (he and Ang had left at 3 a.m. to get to BH and Joe had done 20 last Sunday) early on, then a multimarathoner/triathlete from NJ, then Meredith from Somesville, Edenian Rick from BH, and Steve Pf. of Blue Hill. mostly watched them disappear into the distance.
could not find Ginger at the start (wanted to see if a lightning bolt was part of the red outfit; it shoulda been) but saw her finish strong. wonderful to be greeted by Larry and have Tris there to yell oi and put the medal on. and to see John M. and Thos. 3:22 Bennett and Bob from Vassalboro (we'd run some BH half together) and, and – wonder what the heck Rae and Tom were up to at Bay State. now I know. hats off to them!
then arriving in Ptld, beep at DT on Back Cove at mile 1.9.
thanks once more and deep bow to Gary and Lisa and Dan and Larry and Mary and all volunteers/contributors/sponsors. this is a pretty sad "race report" but the subject line covers it – the MMJ song played in my head all day. whoops it started again –
but I get up again . . .was the song stuck in my head for most of Sunday and it's back now, making me smile
Oh my goodness. This was a great day. I had a load of fun. Got to see all of the course and most of the runners. Sorry BUFF, don't remember seeing you along the way. Congrats to all of you - you are inspiring, but not enough to get out there myself. My morning started at 5:20 in BH, meeting up with John and Bonnie at the start for set up. Helped get the starting line organized. I was the crazy one walking through the runners yelling "Double check your chip, make sure it is secure" and the other favorite line of the day was "If you are walking, you need an orange dot, if you don't have the dot, you need to talk to me." Missed the walkers start, was out making sure that mile 2 (The MDI cross country team was having a party) and 4 were getting set up. It was pretty impressive to see them all when I came back in. I was the crazy guy in the green jeep with the flashers on at various places around the course. Got to see the Start for the first time - sorry Frank for not calling, got caught up in the moment. Spent some time out at 4 and 6 watching the fast ones come through. Went out to 8 for a bit and then doubled back to find the tail end of the pack. Got to witness the MDI Cross Country team en masse take up the road somewhere after mile 9 to yell at Kate G. Oh to be young again. Spent some time at about Mile 11 - the Asticou corner, making sure folks were staying inside the cones. Saw alot of folks there. Got to hang out with the Eden folks at 22 for a bit. It was good to finally put some faces with the names. Again congrats to everyone. To JC and Chris G. - Give them HELL>
Buff - check out a band called The Zutons.
One Big Holiday, --My Morning Jacket
Congratulations to all the marathoners Sunday. It was impressive seeing you all out there. Vanessa did the EL 6, as did I, along with a couple extra tossed in out to #4 and back. Life is good in the woods.
and nice job everyone who raced this weekend.
Running/Walking = 120
