Oh, ya, at Stone Cat I met jamieofthenorth, which I had previously met while running MDI Marathon 2005. He was volunteering to qualify for some endurance run (like 100 miler or something). He lurks somtimes so maybe he'll update us on his "goin' ons."

Keep running!

...With Bob, Frank, and Chris: Eagle Lake CW, plus a mile with some strides at the end.

Some white caps but no white tails today. Thanks for the company!

So... my Uncle Riley and I were out walking

this morning at 4:00 a.m. when we saw this guy all decked out in fluorescent orange and carrying a rifle step out of the woods and onto the road just ahead of us. Sheesh. I hate to admit it but I gotta tell ya that seeing a hunter that early just about scared the bejeebers out of me because even though the moon was still pretty bright there wasn’t enough light to make out a whole heckuva lot. Well anyway, to make a long story short my Uncle Riley was brought up on the wrong side of the tracks, so the word fear isn’t in his vocabulary. He walked right up to the guy and said, “ain’t it a bit early for huntin’, bub?”

I knew we were in for it the minute the hunter opened his mouth because come to find out it was the president!

"Sheesh, Mr. President!” my Uncle Riley exclaimed when he recognized him. "Don’t you know it’s against the law to hunt deer before daylight? You could get into big trouble!"

"Yes, I do," the president said to my Uncle Riley, "but if you really must know, I AIN’T HUNTIN' DEER! SO THERE!"

President or no president, my Uncle Riley doesn’t like being shouted at, so he shot right back. “THEN JUST WHAT ARE YOU HUNTIN’ MR. PRESIDENT?"

"Well," responded the president. "If you really must know, I'M A HUNTIN' DONKEYS!"

My Uncle Riley’s pretty sharp but the president’s response confused him. For the record, it even confused me, but I was staying completely out of it.

"But Mr. President!" my Uncle Riley said with defiance. "WE DO NOT HAVE DONKEYS IN MAINE AND EVEN IF WE DID, I DOUBT IF THERE'D BE OPEN SEASON ON 'EM!"

The president was getting real testy by now. Apparently, he isn't used to being challenged. "THAT'S WHERE YOU'R WRONG MISTER!" he shouted back to my Uncle Riley. "AND IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE ME, YOU JUST GO AND ASK MY MAIN MAN KARL ROVE! HE TOLD ME NOW WOULD BE THE PERFECT OPPORTUNITY TO BAG ONE BECAUSE THEY'D BE OUT IN FORCE IN THE MAINE WOODS ALL DAY TODAY!"

I had to read this out loud to a roomful.

They wondered why I was snorting and chuckling. I didn't do the accents justice.

No Sugarloaf! Say it ain't so!

7 miles in 1:03:12, felt good

Running solo so 7x1=7

Eagle Lake plus

in good company, as noted above. It was fun to watch Brian's strides, although it did get a little warm in his wake when he turned on the afterburners. Good to see Vanessa, Ginger, Karen and Holly out there, too!

Sorry

Been awhile since I posted.

ECAC's was bittersweet...finished about 40th out of 290 or so (seemingly a standard number for big meets this year)...course wasn't all that hard...but did get mucked up and the hills were placed at gnarly points. Was in the top 15 for the first mile.5 and just fell off from there. I think i ran 27:34 or so. A combination of things, not getting enough sleep, running that workout on wendesday at the track, and just not racing smart all contributed to a really sub-par effort.

I've got another chance to get it right this weekend down at Springfield for the D3 regional. Even though the course isn't ideal, I really expect a good outing from myself.

On another note, I'm eating with Billy Mills tonight before he speaks in front of the majority of the school this evening. One of my prof's/coaches wife is responsible for bringing him here and I lucked out and got the invite this morning.

Easy this week, did 6 with pickups yesterday and today will be another 6 easy with some strides.

6.5M Bangor Lunch Run

was caught up in a bit of a *dog fish* diversion last night that left me a bit sluggish this morning. My raison d'etre today was 7:25 pace.

No French or Politics here

but about the same pace as RK for 5ish around Bar Harbor and Jesup Trail (mucky).

6 of the 8

miles I ran with Karen and Holly. Felt heavy on my feet today, a bit achey too. Is it achey or achy? Anyone want to train for Vermont City Marathon? A great substitute if Sugarloaf doesn't happen. Karen's doing it, arncha Karen:)

what do you mean "if Sugarloaf doesn't happen"?

???

To answer your question,
achy: having or causing an aching sensation.

Now, Ginger....

I am not planning on running the Vermont City Marathon with you. However, I will join you for your speed workout tomorrow. See you there.

Eagle Lake

5.9 for today.

I did 6 on the treadmill yesterday. I had it on a 1% elevation and I'm feeling it in the trunk today.

Now Karen...

If you still want to be my friend you'll reconsider....

Thanks Alyie for the spelling help. Sugarloaf doesn't have a race director.

I'll be surprized

if the race gets cancelled. I know Sue retired but I'm sure someone will take over.

I hope so

I know the ...

3+ warmup

4x3:00, 4x2:00, 4x1:00 with 1-2 minutes rest after each.

1+ cooldown.

3 miles at the high school...

while waiting for my son.

Caddilac S. Ridge

Just made it up & down Caddy before the sun set. It was really overcast yesterday so the dark was sooner. Finished in 59 minutes. No wild life or people out there today.

Happy Trails.

7.5+ 6

Fun in the morning sun with Brian, Chris, & Frank as noted above with a wee bit thrown in afterwards which resulted in a great trail find, Vanessa, who did 6! Life is good in the woods.

Seven

by myself, since I couldn't convince my sister to run with me. In her defense, she had a deadline for work and was probably being wise and responsible.

Another 7 miles

including some strides in my new spikes to do a little breaking in. When I was on the lake, it was extremely foggy and calm. I couldn't pass up the opportunity to swim when the weather was so amazing like that so I went swimming for about 20 seconds.
