What's your run?
-
shhh calm down, what's wrong? I ask her but I can feel it, can feel her back tire rubbing too hard on the pavement. Twisting out of the pedals, I look to confirm my suspicions - it's flat, damn it. She won't stop crying, and I try to reassure her that it's not her fault, and we'll call a friend and get back to school.
This is when I realize that I've forgotten my cell phone. All that's in my pocket is my student ID, which won't get us much in the way of a ride.
We walk to a nearby house, where I can see a guy out working on his car. "May I please use your phone?" I ask, explaining that I'm a college student whose bike has just gotten a flat, and that all I need is to call a friend to come get me. He brings the phone outside for me, but when I try to call Sarah, it just rings. Chatter clings to my side, afraid. I can't think of any other people I could call - all my other friends' numbers are in my cell phone memory, I don't know them off the top of my head. So I called my dad. "What do I do? Who do I call for a ride back to school?" The guy whose phone I'm using offers to bring me back, but he seems a little sketchy. On the other hand, I can't think of a second option. "Dad, this guy has offered to bring me back to school - I'll call you when I get back to school." Okay, I'm still a little scared, but at least someone knows exactly where I am.
We have to take Chatter's front wheel off to get her in the guy's car, and she is just shaking - one tire flat, the other tire off, and now she's upside down in the back seat, poor girl. I watch her in the mirror the whole ride back, shooting her reassuring glances. It feels like forever to get back to school, but we finally make it. Chatter and I both sigh in relief. I bring her up to my room and let her curl up in bed, knowing she will want a nap. I head to the pool so I can calm down, and wonder if "my bike got a flat" is going to fly as a valid reason for missing exercise phys lab.
bike, 50 min swim, 28 min
Right now, I can't fix the flat. Chatter is sulking, and she won't eat dinner, she wants her wheel back on. I told her I AM TRYING MY BEST! and she's still mad at me.
a writer Alyie. Just make sure you let us know if she starts talking to you;)
the point. Right now, she is NOT talking to me :(
she doesn't start.
I hope coach didn't run off the face of the earth. I can't seem to track him down.
do the one in orrington it is flat so you time will be good and you will get points in you age group for Sub 5 ser. you can come watch the next day cad. only has one hill but it goes for ^^6 miles and you never know about the weather at the top
when i was repacking some of my race clothes i found my MARK ALLEN NIKE TRI top from sometime in the late 80"s-90's ( it maybe older than you now that I think about)
but anyway back to my point it was high tech. for it's time and now it looks really stupid with my abs or lack of them so I want you to have it ! if you do not wear it atleast you can use it to polish ( clatter ) or what ever your bikes name is just don"t tell GINGER she get's very upset over things like this I hope she does not see the Shelly P jacket or the DRI FIT TOP Black and Peach
not Clatter!
chatter clatter what ever Shelly P has two boys and I can't tell them apart either
if I get in trouble biking this summer you're the one I'm calling to come rescue Chatter and me!
(your phone number is the only one I've got memorized of all you island friends, because it showed up on my cell phone about five times a day in Boston when you called to make sure Ginger and I were still okay. Actually, I think your phone number is the only one I know anyway, because everyone else I just email)
p.s. I'm in for both 10ks :D
Well, i'll take it off your hands :)
I'm also looking for some old-school Oakley blades if anyone has something like that collecting dust somewhere.
Chris
the top I gave Alyie came from an Expo somewhere with an autographed tag From Mark Allen . a friend who worked at Nike got it for me > I did find a Hind top my e-mail address is takirby@adelphia.net send me your home mailing address and I will send it out. No Oakley's but I will ask around
I have to check with Bruce B TO SEE IF HE AGREES I think clatter /chatter/ whats the matter= or what ever name it goes by had indoor wind trainer old winter air and needed to have been replaced with summer air I can not be sure without talking to the bike One -on one not with Alyie talking for it ! Ginger go to bed you have a hard day ahead . next time you use the Garmin i will set it up so you can race the little man they have in there ( not sure how he got there but he is )
the last time I mid-week island escaped. I'm doing the same thing this Wednesday, and you can talk to her then if you want :) she's coming around, but only because she's hungry. We're sharing a couple bagels with peanut butter and jelly for a bedtime snack (Ginger maybe I won't wake up hungry tonight :P )
I don't work and it's also my day off from running, but I'm going to come to the track with my boys to visit and watch. Hopefully soon I'll be able to do my workouts Wed. evenings.
I have a class from 4-8 that night. I'll be around from noon to 3 - visiting Jill, going to SAND BEACH!!!!!!! and biking and/or running. My ankle is acting up again so it may be biking.
I look forward to Wednesday evening workouts this summer as well.
Have you ever raced one?
well it was more like bi's in the early 80"s there were a lot of run bike run events than there are now and they were a lot of fun we used to have a 10 mile time trial weekly up by Graham Lake so I have a lot of that stuff scott areo bars time trial bikes road bikes the bikes still fit but the clothes are another story
a "high tech" bike jersey or two from the era. Lots of fun events (including a triathlon put on by Harbor House) and less interference from pesky laywer types. Sometime in the early 80's there was a time trial every week from the Fire House in Somesville to Murphy's in Southwest. It was always fun when the road shoulder disappeared right before the descent down Carroll's Hill.
when is the orrington 10K?
May 5 - look at the calendar on the front page.
Off for a run.
Miles from Bar Harbor: 7,576 Postmarked: Tuesday, April 10 (mail takes a long time to get back to the states!)
for tracking our progress.
Looks like the Antarctica Marathon is right on our course..
I LOVE sending postcards...
:D
;)
Tom K.'s looking for a free place to stay at Sugarloaf. Along with free food, and he doesn't want to have to pay for gas on the way down either. Poor guy. Maybe he can share a room with Shelly and Jill.
Have a great day, everyone!
30-minutes on the bike to loosen things up for later. Bunker and I are headed up to Roan Mnt. for a run later.
in 56 min. on a beautiful morning along the riva'. Stretches & core (in that order), too.
Keep running!
That's funny! 6 or so with Karen up to Precipice. Sara, Maggie, and Suzy J. joined us for 4ish of it. Tom Kirby came along and I jumped on the bumper of his truck for a little help up the hill. He lended me his Garmin for tomorrow's long run. Heck of a guy, that Tom Kirby. Feelin' good- 3 weeks and 6 days to go!
MY name right either ;)
midpoint of flattop to lamoine general, still dodging dump trucks. It was a tough one this morning, very out of shape, but at least I'm out. Enjoy the beatiful day tomorrow
Make sure they can see you. Dodging dump trucks is very good training :)
snow on the banks of Bean Brook. Don't think it's going to last much longer though. This morning's excitement was listening to a battle between a fox and a hen as I walked by my neighbor's barn. Talk about a ruckus. On the way back, remnants of the hen adorned the road. Not good. At least for the hen anyway.
I like it. Clatter's a great name for a bike, Alyie. You should have told us you wanted to name your bike. Not that we all would have come up with a better name than Clatter, but... in case you haven't noticed, there is quite a lot of brainpower in this here club of ours.
she won't like you guys.
I don't like the "cl" blend. Ch/tt/er all have nice, sharp sounds. Her middle name is Juilet.
Warm-up from town to base of mountain road, then repeats of 1 min. hard/ 1 min. easy to the top.
Nice morning out there.

:)
and now off to track practice.
long lunch run now off to L-Town this afternoon for an evening workout - a double of sorts...
Brian's jaunt up Caddy was too much for me today, so I ran an easy 5 in the afternoon. Just glorious...
slow and easy, not used to this heat yet. 55 mins.
It doesn't get any better than it was today out there.
No twinges again today. Hopefully I can stop thinking about it soon.
Good to have you back from the sidelines!
Just good to hear you are able to run again.
Cuz I'm pretty sure that's where I am headed. More knee pain today after the weekend off. Swimming and cyclying planned for the rest of the week and will try to run again over the weekend.
5.25 for the meter...before the knee went kabloom.
dark side What is YOUR bike's name?
if you're recovering from a marathon Tim, especially a tough Boston. Give that knee a well-deserved few weeks of easy-does-it and you'll be good to go again.
And no displacement is at work here. There's plenty of room on the carriage roads for all of us this summer--and I hope everyone is fit and healthy enough to take full advantage, me included at long last :-)
taking a little break should bring you right back up to speed. Your body's been through a lot.
13+ up on Roan Mnt. It was closed down at Carvers gap(5516ft) so Bunker and I ran up the 2-miles to the top and explored the roads and trails on top. The 1/2 mile loop on top was awesome. Gravel roads after you climb the first 2-miles and everything up on top isn't that hilly. Up on top it's all 6000-6200ft. Any kind of hill was tough but the views were incredible.
We found a couple of overlooks that may have been the most incredible views I'd ever seen.
Bunkers achilles handled the climb and the decent.
I stayed up top a little longer and found the AT, then once I got down ran up Bald Mnt on the AT to 5826ft. I've done a lot of trail running and it's a good indicator of fitness. Even at over 5000 feet I easily ran up mountains. So I'm in shape.
There is another 3 miles fire road up on top we didn't even get to explore, plus another gravel road, so we'll have to go back.
Roan Mnt. 1/2 mile loop
was I forgot my running shorts and had to settle with boxers and hiking shorts. The guys will understand, ouch.
your running shorts? Isn't that like forgetting to sneeze for you?
My backup shorts I alwasy keep in my car I'd used the day before when I'd forgotten my shorts. And i forgot to replace them. Then my running shorts for the day I used in my 30 minute bike ride in the morning and left them hanging to dry.
Still, with the views it was a great run. But some ice was needed at the end.
Zouwey, Ouch.
really held back this time.Basically jogged around 8.00 pace.I need to do that for now until repaired knee is fully recovered.Back Cove very crowded even at late 7:00pm start.Everyone enjoying long overdue nice weather.Sorry to hear about knee Tim.Been there, hope it's not serious, good luck.Sounds like your injury healed Mark, good deal. Dave T.
Just a spin on the ET and some abs. Get well soon Tim.
