Trail Running Report

The report from the NipMuck Marathon, Chaplin, CT. Conditions were very rainy wet/ humid/ and muddy amking for a very technical course. It was real easy to hit a muddy area and ski for several feet making your decision making criticle in avoiding bigger obstacles such as rocks and streams. A very good turn out from the state of Maine including Craig Wilson, Richard Collins, Bob Dunfey, Roger M., and myself. Ran pretty solid with a few tough spots to run through along the way as this was not a peak race for me. Fun non-the less. I still finished 5th overall despite being fourth in the 40+ age group. Now ready to run the torch run this Friday and help all those great kid's in the special olympics.

Happy Trails.

Peter K.

Peter, what was your time?

Congrats on the fifth-place finish! It sounds like a brutal race, particularly in those conditions. You're completely mad :D

Thank you.

Thanks Alyie, I have been called mad before. Some just call it quirky. I think my time was 3:41:56.

the grinning face after means

it is a compliment :D

I am hoping to run with you some afternoons this summer. I will be working 8-5 though, I think last year we were doing 6 at 4? We might have to start 6 at 6, the evening version. Ohhh I cannot wait to be on the island.

How do your legs feel? Do you find a trail marathon to be more tiring and leave you sorer than a road one?

After event routine.

Alyie, I follow an after event routine including forcing myself to go back out about five or ten minutes aftee I finish even if that means hiking/ walking for ten. As long as I have a dry top layer it works pretty good. Then if the schedual allows I try to do the same when I get home or first thing the next morning. This makes the recovery easier. This time I am recovered enough to run today from Long Pond to Brown Mtn slow and steady with some tightness but no bad pain. I would love to hook up for some training this summer as I am doing more carraige roads this year than trails as part of my training program. When you get on the Island let me know when you could go and maybe we can meet up.

Sincerely,
Peter K.

Nice running, Peter!

Congratulations for a great performance on what sounds like a pretty gritty course. Hope you are recovering well. What's next?

Thank you.

Thanks Chris, I am glad that you are feeling better and the runs are fun again. I will probabily race again in two weeks on the 17th at Greylock in N. Adams, MA. I have been doing an event every two weeks since February 4th. My focus is for the end of July so after the next event I will have a brief recovery week ot two and start up with some intervals and easy hill work until two weeks before the goal.

Sincerely,
Peter K.
