Rest day for me.

Good luck B2B Runners!

A few miles on East Eagle.. one with Alyie as she finished her loop. And I saw the Boyd-mobile.

Go B2B runners...

Hope for an update soon. I ran 6 miles this morning around the mill dam loop with my beach to beacon t-shirt on. This cool foggy morning really suited me.

Preliminery Mainer results from B2B

Evan just called.

One of the Taye brothers was the first Mainer, followed by Kirby Davis, then Evan in a time of 32:05. Judson was a bit ahead at 31:50. Ethan was a bout 15 seconds behind Evan. Jeff Ashby ran well in the Maine masters division, finishing in 35:15. Erin's time was about 56 minutes, and Autumn, at 1:17 took a couple minutes off her time from last year.

Warm and humid, foggy at the finish.

More when I have it.....

Congratulations all you B2B racers this morning.

Job well done. Bob and I opted for a leisurely walk from Eagle Lake past Aunt Betty's, tackling the hill at seven bridges and continuing through junctions 8, 9, and 6 to complete 6 miles. I finally got some pictures of the waterlilys at Aunt Bettys which was our intention.

Ginger and Tom

I just heard from Tom. Both he and Ginger were pleased with their times. Tom took a minute off last year's time and Ginger broke 51 minutes.

I was registered to run B2B but didn't get there. So, in honor of B2B I ran a 6.2 mile tempo run on the carriage paths. I missed the crowd and the excitement but I did manage to get a PR around Eagle Lake.

More detail from B2B

Jeff Caron ran a great race: 31 low.

Judson's splits were 4:54, 5:0x, 5:06, 5:06, 5:08, 5:13, 5:20, 0:58,

5th Mainer was a 19-year old who trailed Ethan by only a few seconds.

Emily Levan was first Maine woman, 35:01.

MI miles & congrats to B2B runners

7 cornfield miles this a.m.

Great work at B2B!

Congratulations to all, and let's hear those race reports!

I ran 8 miles on the towpath, which seemed measly in comparison to the other runners out there later today, running the inaugural Burning River 100-miler. It was quite an incredible scene at the 36 mile aid station. I was impressed by how un-runnerlike many of the participants looked, yet those were the ones who seemed the strongest, at least in the mid-pack. I missed seeing the front-runners, and imagine they were probably more the stringy sort I was expecting to see. It is 90 degrees here, probably not quite the kind of day ultra runners dream about.

Steamy Bayview

It was soupy out there. Ran slow at first to warm up cranky hip, then finished OK. 6 total.

Great job at B2B everyone. If the conditions were as humid as up here, you all have my admiration for running so well in the difficult conditions.

(4)x 200m, plus

Biked to the track.
2mi w/u.
(4)x 200m w/200m rests
34.5, 36.9, 35.2, 33.9
I was trying for 37s. So I changed back out of my spikes, ran 100m in 19.9 and then 200m in 37.4. Perfect.
2mi. c/d
Biked back to town.
Bit warm, but not too bad.

B2B: RESULTS

Hot run at EL

Matt and I ran around the lake wit Maggie. The three of us ran up the hill together. I dropped the two of them at the top.

Saw Don and Jean at the begining and then they disappeared. Hope y'all are OK. 15 miles is way to go at 2:00 on a day like today.

Congrats to the B2B racers!

50:48

I'm very pleased with that. 8:11 pace, I'll take it. Never broke 51 before. I'll write more later.

B2B

Here are my splits: 7:53, 8:08, 8:02, 8:23, 8:11 and that's all I know. I started to weaken and tweak out between miles 3 and 4. I decided that I would back off until/if I felt stronger. I was happy to see that my "easy effort, tweaky, nausous, wanting to crawl out of my skin mile" was still 8:23. I got some confidence and strength built back up after that and finished strong. The last 700 meters was awesome and very intense. I'll leave the graphic details out, yet again. Let's just say, I pushed it to the extreme, there was no way I would allow myself to see 51 min. without a good fight, and I won. A 35ish sec. PR on a tougher, hotter course- yeah!

Boiler-to-broiler B2B

Ugh, was it the foul air or the lack of training? Anyway, a heat-wavey grind, and I managed to undo all the excellent massage therapy I got last week in Urbana, Ill. that 'fixed' up my knotty calf. It's unfixed; d'oh!. SO, Judson, if you read this, I'm not sure I can run long on Monday anyway. Thanks for considering it, though. On the up-side, I managed to run 37:02 twice in five weeks. Creepy.

Sorry to have missed all the Edenistas down there-- but was that "Caw Caw Caw" sign someone was holding for you all?

Susannah

If you want to run long on Monday just give me a time and place in the morning to meet. I cannot run in the evening because of work.

Yes, there were some caw signs up and about.

4.8

GML exit at Kebo St. to PLR over the hill and back home.

Great job at B2B everyone!

Last couple of days

Thursday evening I got in 25 minutes and some strides.

Friday I mananged 38 minutes in the morning and another 32 on the B2B course that evening with some strides.

Saturday, 62 minutes with warmup, race and cooldown.

Splits were 10:01 through two miles( I think 4:54 at mile 1) 5:06 third mile, 5:08 4th, 5:13 5th, 5:22 6th and 57 seconds for the last .2. Plan was to run the first mile in control and then pick up the effort a bit through mile 2 knowing the split would be slow. From 2.5 I had a sign I'd picked out to go and from that point to mile 4 I focussed which basically let me maintain. I was so beat by mile 4 that I couldn't really take advantage of the fast 5th mile and I actually ran pretty poorly to mile 5, but managed a good last mile up through the hills. Basically I hate the heat and run shitty in the heat, so running 20+ seconds faster than I ever had on this course with the heat was really good and when I finished I did the big fist pump into the air for running as well as I did in those conditions and I'm very happy with how I ran. Other than the first 2-k I ran completely solo the rest of the way. I didn't pass anyone and nobody passed me, it was hard to feel like I was racing, but I managed to run well.

More tommorrow, but I'm tired from no sleep last night and partying with Ginger and Autumn most of the night.

Shore Path with my family

or, "Saturday's Forced March" if you ask Isaac. 5 walking miles!

and the Lobster Score

Ian and I hauled the two traps in the evening while Frank, Jill, Isaac, and my parents supervised from the dock. We were trying to get out on the real boat in the morning but we quite literally missed it (THIS IS IAN'S FAULT!) Anyway, one of our lobsters had a claw caught in the trap that I couldn't pull out without breaking it, and I feel bad about that, but he was over 3 1/4 inches long so he's headed to someone's dinner plate anyway, and Frank said that their shells heal pretty fast. We caught three and were able to keep two. The score is:

lobsters - 8
Alyie - 4

My parents ate the first two that I caught for dinner on Friday night. And our Christmas card picture this year will be something to do with lobsters! We've done lots of island Christmas cards - Sand Beach and Cadillac for two years when I was little - in front of my cabin last year, and 2005 was from after my marathon (at least they let me take a shower first)

B2B and stuff tally
