eden's RACING

I'm going to swim-race

and I'm wicked anxious. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

i would have

gone LOBSTA fishin !
did you get the books from Jill?

we tried

boat problems. But the harbor is beautiful, quietly still, at 4am. And the stars, so clear and pretty. Frank said "it's a nice morning" and I laughed because usually you say that when the sun is up.

Yes, I did get the books, thank you :D

Good luck Eden Racers!

Rest again here... the swelling and pain have subsided a bit. I think it is going in the right direction!

????

have you used the bike yet
start easy to get used to it

Not yet

but hope to this evening. Had to go to Bangor this morning to buy DeLaney a big girl car seat and we just got back....

Nice job today everyone!

43 minutes

Run with Bunker. I was suppossed to pick it up in the final mile, so I ran 4:52.

Eagle Lake

54 minutes with Shelly (new runner). My dog is still a spaz. Ran into Holly, Lisa and Marian. It's nice to see people again.

Johnson's 5 Miler - Calais Report

Adam won overall 27:41 - Katie Churchill for the women division. I finished maybe 12th in 32:54 (1st place 30-39). Course has a couple of gentle rolling hills, you also cross the international boundry line (between the 2 border crossings). The race itself usually has 40-50 runners - this year I think there were 89 finishers. Also participating of local note... John Churchill (Calais), Rick Rousseau, Austin Townsend, Ty Davis. Lots of Canadian runners there - which was very cool!

I'll be

running that next year. Thanks for the report.

And why didn't anyone tell me I was spelling Tomorrow wrong. I always had 2 m's. Steve was nice enough to tell me.

Because

we know how touchy you can be and didn't want to make you mmad. Steve, you are a brave man!

If I'm still living, pick me up

on the way by and I'll ride down with ya.

I told you once

when you got after me about my grammar.
Besides.... who cares if you spell a word wrong, we're here to talk freely and not worry about that stuff.

I'm with Ginger

on this one. A few miss pellings and umproper grammer hear and their won't hirt nuthin.' And besides, I think we're all safe. After all we do have a president that admitted yesterday that he could barely speak english. He was entertaining the French pres. in Kennebunkport and one of the reporters apparently asked him if he could speak french. His reply, "No, I can't. I can barely speak english."

good luck Alyie in the open water swim!

you won the overall last year right? let's hope for a repeat!

Ed, you are sweet to remember that

and yes, I did. Not as hot this year - I did win the 500, but I took 2nd in the 1.5 mi. The girl who won had 40 seconds on me, if we were in a pool, she'd have lapped me! (thank god we weren't, there is nothing I hate more than being lapped)

500 yd race - 5:22
1.5 mi race - 37:47

I do wish that you were here to train and race with me. Come back to Maine and visit!!!

water is like

a thousand kisses, just a thousand little kisses all over your body. And the 500 is just feeling that, a fusion of grace and power make it pretty and it's done. 5:22, nice.

I swam easy free and a little fly between the races, just staying calm, and enjoying it. I don't want to talk I want to savor how this feels. The 1.5 mi hurt

let them get ahead you know you'll get them later
damn it that first buoy is far away.
smooth, catch it
a kayaker is too close to me get away and I wish Ian were here to watch me because
it is so pretty today
there's a pack of guys ahead of me and
they don't know I'm here
HAHA! I'm catching you, I'm going to get ahead of you and you wont' even know it
arrogant today, aren't we
for all you know there are people trying to catch you too
yeah but
they won't
I catch the guys and we're all swimming together, I'm tucked at someone's hip
and then I pull ahead
you've got to swim faster because the really fast guys are way ahead of you
OHMYGOD this HURTS
it's supposed to hurt you're racing
suck it up

damn the other guys are even with me
get away you are too close to me
but no matter how fast I swim they're staying even with me, at my hip
I'm tired
tired is not an option right now, SWIM FASTER
my shoulder muscles hurt
that's not an option either, suck it up and SWIM FASTER

and I sprint and finally hit that dock. 37:47

LSD in A.A.

that's long slow distance in Ann Arbor........

11+ miles for the E-meter.

interesting experiment--i weighed myself before and after the run, and i lost 4.4 pounds during the run (yes, it was pretty hot, 78-80 F).

Schaefer: RESULTS

congratulations Brian and Shannon

you guys were smokin!

(please don't tell me Shannon was pushing her double jog stroller!) ; )

oh, and congrats to Norah on the 1 mile Fun Run

the seed doesn't fall far from the tree.........(but it accelerates pretty fast)

No stroller

I've been leaving that sucker home a lot lately...It's gotten heavier and heavier!

Great job at Schoodic Point and Calais

Congratulations to all who raced today!

I ran 8 miles with a 4-mile tempo in the middle. The little virtual guy dusted me, which is really sad in that I am the one who programmed his pace.

Racing Mr. Virtual

I programmed my guy to run a 22:59 at the GS 5K. According to my Garmin I beat him by 9 seconds but according to the official results, he beat me by 1 second. I'm going to call it a tie.

What a beautiful day for racing. Becky and Eden did a great job putting on the race.

Too many

I've been making up my Maine racing schedule for next year which includes races from southern and western Maine all the way up the coast to pembroke to the county and I've got to say that there are way too many races in Maine to choose from. So and so runs fast here, the same day another person runs fast there, another over there. What if there was only one race instead of 3-5 on the same day and everyone went to that race? That would be so cool. There needs to be some process to putting on a road race instead of simply having another race that simply spreads the fields more and more.

Series updated

Go Shannon, Karen, Lou, Judy, Becky, Don, Robin and Jean! (among many others)

wwhere are my EA/JR points?

I should have some I think.

Judy, you have 19 points

...and right now you're second in your age group -- just ahead of Jill and right behind Becky. Maybe you were just looking at the overall winners category at the top.

6M walk!

Nice job at the races! Go team!

10.4 for the Edenometer

Vanessa & I were just strolling about in the LLP & Jordan Pond area while the Eden racing team was taking home a bunch of awards today. Great job Eden! Nice work on those 1st place awards Brian, Karen, & Shannon along with everybody who ran well today.

Life is good in the woods.

Good racing at the George Shaefer 5k

The entire EA crew ran well, and Becky O'Keefe as always put on a great race. Nora unleashed a strong kick down the stretch of the mile, and outlegged a young boy at the line who just moments earlier was sure he had passed her for the final time.

Beech, paddle, water run.

Schaefer race is lots of fun

I really enjoy this race, the course is beautiful, I see lots of friends, and the raffles and prizes are lots of fun...handpicked blueberries and local cans of sardines...and some running shoes that were quizzed off once the folks who wanted them had assembled. I had a great race this year, not a PR, but close, and I'm 4 years older. Thanks Becky, thanks all the others who volunteer .... see you again next year I hope

Aging

I was five years older this year :)

Schaefer 5k

The course is beautiful, and Becky made me laugh just before the whistle blew which is the best way to start a run. I ran wild splits and need to figure out how to pull it together in the second mile, but am happy with how the run felt. Maybe that's a problem, since I've heard that you're not supposed to feel good in a 5k. I'll work on that. A couple miles warmup and a 5k cooldown to make it about eight miles for the day. (And a dead sprint to get to work after, as can be verified by Tom, the Goupees, Karen and Robin.) Thanks Becky for a putting that one on.

GREAT JOB EVERYONE!!!

Someday I'll be brave enough to race again!?!?!?!

Evening 15.2 mile run...with 1.3 mile walk as a cool down ~ trust me, I wouldn't have done that if I hadn't needed to get home! From my house to EL/ABP/Parkman/Around Mtn/EL...the death march home along the Eagle Lake Road was the worst part!

Oh yeah, and an A.M. 3 mile walk with Kasch.

cool!

I thought I ran over 24 min., so it was cool to discover I ran 23:59. I'll be taking a break from racing, I haven't been enjoying it lately, too much pressure to get faster-and it's just not happening on the short stuff. Judson's great, no pressure from him, just myself.
Congrats to Karen, who got first place in her age group! I got 3rd and won a can of sardines. Great job Shannon, Brian, Judy, Lou, Robin, and Tom too! Very strong racing by all:)
I have a cold; hopefully I'll see you all in the morning.

23:59 is nothing to be disappointed in!

My fasted 5K ~ a 20:44 ~ was when I trained for the PT Cruiser Challenge (15K, followed by a 5K with a marathon the next day). I found that the mileage made my short runs faster...Maybe the same will work for you! :)

Alyie Tally

119 miles

lots of nice times from the eden racing team :D
