sargent drive's a dream Go, Eden!
I don't have to like it I just have to do it
I need it.
early morning run, I'm not used to that. Very hot out there and no good air. Good luck northeast harbor 5-milers. 6 miles for me, mill dam loop.
An early morning run also. A very humid 6 miles around Eagle Lake with Lisa and Marion. Great racing everyone:)
looking good out there on a very hot day. I was tired just standing around watching, although I was watching after 4 kiddos. Way to go Karen with a nice PR!
Suzanne, I'm trying to get in touch with you. I don't have your phone number or e-mail.
Got your message and left you one at home!
My email is ground_tender@verizon.net
Sorry to have to miss a good time...:(
Cadillac North Ridge Trail w/Kasch ~ it was a little wet and slippery, so we walked back via the road for a total of 7.3 miles.
great to see all the Edenistas out there. My heart rate registered a 198 max which is something since I have never had it go over 172 and I wear it a lot. I'm thinking of getting an official test on the max. anyway, it's indicative of how much the heat and humidity impacted my run. I felt slow, but finished ok. 2 secs off 2nd place (44:01; 8:46 pace), but that's ok as I certainly didn't feel fast. recovery fine especially since there were several water hoses to cool us down. Great day running.

Looks like a hot day up in NE. Not good for some.
Up in Todd I had a little workout which I knew I could do, but it was getting warm and I knew it wouldn't be fun.
21 minute warmup
1 hour at goal marathon pace(5:20-5:25)
7 minute cooldown.
Very hot and about 2/3rds of the run was in the open sun.
Splits- 5:20,5:21,5:20,5:21,5:26,5:26,5:23,5:24,5:26,5:26,5:25, 42 seconds. So 11 miles in 59:18, 5:23ish pace.Miles 1,3,7, and 8 were mostly shady, 2,4,5,6,9,10, and 11 were HOT, sucked.
Work and stuff having made a hash out of the previous two days, I almost didn't even race today. Felt good in the morning though and didn't really even consider the heat until I jogged out the first three miles of the course for a warmup. It was definitely humid.
So, talking it over with Tim, I settled on my plan to run the first three miles pretty easy and then see what I had for the fourth mile which has always given me trouble in previous races. First two miles were very controlled, split was 12:24. Third mile, I started off by choking on some water and Becky flew by me here. Then I started to feel a little rocky, so I backed right down to 6:40 pace. Still cranked back down for the fourth mile trying to get that sub-6 pace back but couldn't run better than 6:05 and felt like absolute crap, nauseated and cramped up. So, when I saw Frank at the 4-mile waterstop I was pretty well set on just staying there and volunteering for the rest of the race. Pulled over to the side for a minute, threw up once, and felt --umm--- much better. So I clicked my watch back on and jumped back in. Had a fairly decent last mile too, passed a couple of people and closed on Alex Brunton who had been leading me previously. Never got back close to Becky, though.
So, all in all, a terrible finishing time but I think the effort was not so bad given my usual response in those conditions.
Ty, hope you're feeling better.
Lots of impressive times, despite the humidity. Big congrats to Becky with yet another win; and Brian, way to get back up on that horse!
The wet blanket seems to have us all covered, and I ran in similarly gluey conditions here, though not nearly as fast as you all. 8 miles for me. Looking forward to a big weather break overnight.
Looks like a ton of folks showed up and ran well!
all by genuine EA members. It should be noted that Don and Jean raced the NEH Five-Miler and then planned to head out to do their long run yesterday afternoon. Hope that went well!
Did Matt sleep in again!!!
Good job to all the Eden racers running well on a warm, humid morning! Nice come back Brian after a rough stretch. Congratulations to Karen on that PR and to Becky on her win.
Life is good in the woods.
about you all running in NEH in these hot conditions, I feel pretty guilty posting my measly 6M walk! But I will anyway. :-) Even though it pales in comparison to your efforts. And besides, we've got to keep that Edenometer rolling, especially if we want to reach our thirty million mile goal by year's end!
Go team!
you best start doing doubles, Bruce!
Many solid performances in addition to the overall win by Becky C., and age group wins by Tim & Amy T, Becky O, Bob C, and Mary D. It was also good to see Ty (can-fly), Rachel, Heather, and Amy P. at the race.
Kudos to race directors Jennifer M. and Jessica St. A and their team for a very successful first effort.
I paddled out the Western Way from NEH in the haze and chased the fleet around for a while. See you all at the long run tomorrow (Eagle Lake, 8:00 A.M.)
Just saw a report on the Men's Marathon at the World Championships in Japan. Warm Downeast and in Osaka, too. The winning time was 2:15 and only 57 of 94 starters completed the course.
because I'm learning it's best to plan ahead of time. On the 15th is the Bar Harbor 1/2 marathon, and the Lobsterman oly tri is the next day. The following weekend, the Colby tri is Saturday and the Black Bear tri is Sunday.
Hmmmm. says the girl who has neglected her bike for most of the summer, and hasn't been running much either. Hmmmm.
Kelly's got me scheduled to teach a spin class on the 15th so no half marathon. Triathlons I still haven't decided yet.
With four races remaining in the EA/JR race points series, the current leaders are:
Woke up exhausted for some reason and couldn't motivate for NEH. Sounds like I missed a good race, though, with some strong times and gritty efforts. Great running!
I rallied by noon, and so I went out for 18.5 miles ... fully supported by Sara and Maggie, who appeared every 5 miles or so with water and goo and cheers. The run almost killed me -- I went out too fast for the first 12 miles, and paid for it at the end -- but I'm glad to have that one in the bag. Longest I've ever run.
That must have been a hot run.
Goodluck to Ginger who's running the 5-mile course tonight as a time trial.
what I heard she was doing tonight...
Five plus for me, not at time trial speed.
didn't go well. I'm a heck of a walker though. I'm taking today off, felt like I was going to blow on Sat. It's difficult juggling 50 miles, kids, work... etc. Judson's a great coach, I just need to vocalize things more- so it's not his fault. It was great to get together with some gals Sat. night, I was much more relaxed after talking with them. I don't mean to complain, I love doing all of it! I need to find a balance though, or I'm going to whig out.
Brian, you're unbelievable! I would have canned it right there, if I felt that bad. Judson will be proud!
So Matt does his first 6 or so miles (from EL over to Upper Hadlock) at a 6:20 pace at noon. He was suppose to run 7:30s. I yelled at him to slow down, but he did not listen. I think he might need to learn something about pacing over long distances. Are there any good coaches out there that could help?
The only way Matt will be coached is if the person next door to him drags his butt out the door each day and makes sure he's doing what he's suppossed to. Brian is close by.
Hey, at least I'm out there running again...
Gotta get back on my 6@6 schedule...
It was great to see all the Eden folks out in force at the NEH 5 miler. Last year, I was about a minute slower so I was pleased with my time.
Congrats to all the Eden winners. Way to be strong under tough conditions.
started at 6:30 to beat the heat. Ended with muddy shoes, wet socks, briar scrapes and deer ticks. Quite different from pavement pounding.
108 mi from "just running" + 5 mi race x Brian's list of selected results (29) = 108 + 145 = 253 mi for the day
