3:45:07

for me today ~ good enough to be Boston bound!

What a GREAT group of supporters out there today ~ I couldn't even begin to get all the names right...but a BIG THANK YOU to everyone (Ginger, Karen, Holly, Lisa, Brian, Jill, Shannon, Vanessa, Don & Jean to name a few - please don't be offended if I missed you!)!

Frank ~ thanks for taking such good care of me and keeping me on pace and in the present. Bob ~ you made the last 10K a bunch of fun despite my cramping calves & quads!
Sara ~ thanks for the finish line beer!
Matt ~ thanks for taking the fuel belt that was p***ing me off!
And Deb ~ who gave me a great big hug at the finish, took off my chip, and gave me another hug while I broke down over my grandmother's death...Everyone of you helped me get through this after a crappy week ~ THANKS

Opps,

Ginger bought you the beer. I just got it to the finish line. Sorry it was a little late. That is what happens when you run so fast! -Sara

Thanks, GINGER!!

Sara, it seems to me you made it just as I was walking out the the finish corral (after Deb had to deal with my breakdown), so you were right on time!

Julie,

I am very sorry to hear about your grandmother. Sending ((((hugs))))

Congrats on the BQ :D is that a PR for you?

by 32 seconds

ran a 3:45:39 at Sugarloaf, BUT it's a 17 minute PR on the MDI course.

so it's two PRs, then!

very cool :D

Julie

I did not realize you lost your Grandmother. I am SO very sorry. You have my deepest sympathies.

thanks...

...it was a rather bittersweet marathon for that reason, but I ran it for her and it worked!

PEI RESULTS

5 288 Timothy Tunney Ellsworth ME US M 1/23 M3039 2:59:16 2:59:15*
58 213 Amy Tunney Ellsworth ME US F 5/23 F3039 3:41:00 3:40:53* 5:16

AWESOME!!!

You both must be VERY stoked! Watch out Tim, Amy'll be faster than you in no time!

Help

That * means Amy BQ right? Are the two times race time and chip time. It is the chip time that counts, right? Either way, great run you two!

-Sara

Tim!!!

5th overall, SWEET! And that will bring your average marathon time down too :) I am still laughing about that.

I don't think I've ever met Amy but tell her I said congrats to her too.

Yay Amy and Tim!

Those are some fantastic times! I'm so proud of both of you and am looking forward to hearing about your runs.

PEI

Tim and Amy congrats on a great run! Those are wicked good times for sure..

4:31:32 for me (2:16 PR!)

and I'm happy with it! First, I could not have done it without the AMAZING support....Sara, Shannon, Mark, Ginger, Brian, and Frank....and so great to see everyone at the end...Deb, Bob, Vanessa, and Jill. As Julie said, I'm sorry if I missed anyone! (Also Karen, Matt, Holly and Judy out on the course!)

I must admit I felt like a local celebrity when I went through the Mile 2 water stop; the MDIXC Team is awesome!

I feel good about my race. Had a wait in line for a Porta Potty on Sargent Drive, so I lost a total of about 6 minutes there. My knee bothered me on and off from about mile 13 to the end, and I struggled with nausea pretty bad in mile 23 I think. I did take a few brief walk breaks in the last 6 miles, but I looked back at my splits and I am pleased with them...really only had a few miles where I slowed considerably so I'll take it. After my recovery, I will be asking Coach Cake where to go from here.

A great day on a beautiful course with great support; who can ask for more? Now I need coffee.

Julie- CONGRATULATIONS on a great run and your BQ!

You ran a GREAT race!!!

You should be so proud of yourself, Suzanne! MDI is definitely a tough course ~ just think how fast you'll be on a fast course! Are you coming the Jacksonville, too???

50% quicker!

Nice, Suzanne! Wish I could improve my marathon time by that amount. You looked great out there picking it back up and going up that hill to 22.

I had a great time out there today. Got to see almost everybody go by the 5-mile mark. Then (thanks to a one-sided car-sharing arrangement with Shannon*) got to see the leaders and run with Austin from 16 to the end of Sargent Drive. Then joined in with RK from about 17 to 24. Picked up with Jim Newett for the last mile or so of that. Then jogged back to Somesville, getting in another 3/4 of a mile of so with Suzanne and Ginger. So maybe 16 miles total.

You all looked great out there today. Inspiring!

Nice going, Tim and Amy!

(*Hope you got back from Somesville to NEH, Shannon, as I got carried away on the tide out to mile 25.)

MDI

Many Thanks to Brian and Juddy for the pacing help along the way. It sure is good to have good company to help push/drag along the hills.:)) You guys made the difference for sure! A friend from East Machias, Colleen Jackson came down with me and she did the marathon. It has been 17years since her last marathon and she wanted to qualify for Boston..well she did it in fine fashion and with 9 minutes to spare! and she came in 3rd in her age group..way to go Colleen!!!!!!!!! She was pretty happy and thats what she talked about alllll the way home..good for her..

How could I forget?

How great it was to see Don and Jean, too! Don...Shannon was my sister for me, and told me I could do it, just like you said!

Suzanne,

glad you had an awesome race :) congrats!!!
You're a local celebrity around here too, you know.

Excellnt, Tim and Amy!

Woohoo!!!!!!!

You were awsome today

I have to say I was in tears when you crossed the finish line.

It would be pretty hard not to be inspired between all today's racers and Dr. Dave's race yesterday.

Sara (I should really sign in myself)

13m & got to run with a Boston Qualifier - an A+ day

ran 7+ at EL & up McFarland before catching Vanessa and walking in. I got to jump in with Julie at Somesville. She was awesome, working through calf and quad cramps to finish very strong and with a wide BQ margin. She is also incredibly pleasant company (way nicer than me) in the last 10K of a marathon. Inspiring performance. Great work Julie & congratulations!

Speaking of good work. Congratulations to Dr. Dave, Suzanne, Tim & Amy, Austin, RK, & Peter.

Life is good in the woods.

The company kept me going!

Both you and Frank kept me inspired!!! Too bad my cramping muscles wouldn't listen to you and me ~ next time I'll have to have a stick to beat them with! :) I keep thinking that I was so close to 3:41...if they'd just worked with me! Funny how your body will always let you know who the REAL boss is!

On the upside, I was really worried that I'd be extremely sore because of the cramping, but so far things seem to be fine...just goes to show there's still some speed to tap if I can get the nutrition stuff down to keep the cramps at bay!

6600 scy

because Tim said sprinting isn't easy. it requires marshalling your intensity and letting it explode off of the blocks with you in an insane frenzy. you're a pretty even tempered person, so it would be a different perspective for you. you just need to give into the "darkside" a bit more. And Mike said Bowdoin will be the meet where you shatter that 2:21. That was all it took today to make me want to swim.

1000 w/u
4 x 100 sw/l/r/s

4 x 100 on 1:30 (1:15-1:17)
4 x 100 on 1:25 (1:15s)
4 x 100 on 1:20 (1:12s)
4 x 100 on 1:15 (1:11s)
1 x 100 on 1:10 (1:09)

4 x 200 swim kick pull swim
4 x 25 IM order

4 x 400 on 5:30 desc (5:07, 5:05, 5:00, got tired/miscounted/missed the last split but it felt like under 5:00 pace)

3 x 200 swim kick pull
400 c/d

I'm a little bitter about the 1:10 interval. I'm quite capable of just making that interval, so I'm not sure why I stayed on the wall rather than push off for the next one, or flip turn into it (since it was close enough). I think it was that they had started to hurt, really hurt in fact, and I didn't have the mental energy left to cope with that pain.

Ignore me, I'm stressing over little things. You all did AWESOME today and I called Jill on the way home from the pool because I wanted to find out how everyone did :D

Congratulations, one and all!

So far today: 3 BQ's, a 2+ hour PR, and another sub-3 to average in to things. Nice work on the part of the support staff, too. Eden is unstoppable!

MDI Marathon: RESULTS

Challenging Your Limits

...is a little like being shot at and missed. The survivors' exhiliration is hard to share. I'm pretty sure that, in this forum, there are many understanding heads nodding.

While my own time was the worst ever -- it has taken longer and longer each time-- the day was beautiful, the support from the sidelines was uplifting and the people around me were happy to be a part of it all.

I have to say of Matt Frongilo that this fine man I once knew as a preteen has come a long way. Finishing third out of 670 is truly impressive.

It was great to see Don and Jean Bell at mile 19. I have to thank them for waiting so long for me to chug by and for saving the last banana for me. It was a gourmet treat.

Ironman Peter Keeney put in another great peformance. Though he finished so far ahead of me, I never got to see it happen. But I'll bet he wasn't even sore.

It was nice to see Brian dutifully patrolling the course, looking after his charges.

Thank you all for being the great people you are. See you on the carriage roads.

Rick Hirte

Not enough can be said

First to Julie - we were saddened to hear about your Grandmother, but she knows what you did today with her spirit beside you.
Dr Dave in Hawaii and Tim and Amy in Canada and the Super show of all you runners on MDI. Today has to be a red letter day for Eden Athletics.
We could feel the tension reading Dr Daves posts.
We were at mile 19 and all of you looked so good at that point you looked as if it were only mile 2. There were some MDI people running that we didn't know were running and we were happy to see them.
A good day for all of you.
I must say how proud we are to be members of Eden Athletics with all the support we see all the time, but today was just overwhelming. 2 thumbs up to all of you that ran support.

Jean--Don

thanks...

Seeing you BOTH out there with that Eden sign was SO comforting!!!! Jean, you looked ready to run! Thank you for all your kind words...Eden is the BEST!!!

Black Bear 5K: RESULTS

[Thanks, Newell!]

Super running this weekend Team Eden..

on MDI, Hawaii, and PEI. I guess we're island people at heart.

Congrats to Julie and Suzanne on their gritty, purposeful, and successful runs. I enjoyed getting to see you both work your way through what is a tough course. Good to read that Rachel H. and Tom St. Germain were out in the mix, too. Sorry I missed you. And a special congrats to Amy T. on her marathon debut. Awesome!

Many wonderful images from the day. Perhaps none more so than seeing Don and Jean at Mile 19 with their cardboard "Eden" sign. Jean looked great, and ready to hop right in to the race.

I've never been so impressed

as when I ran with Suzanne today. She was as calm and gutsy as any runner alive, mile after mile. I wish I had thought to count the number of people she passed on each hill, it was spooky. You earned every minute of your 2+ hour time drop.

And Julie, I've heard some highlights of your own terrific race and am just as proud of you. I wish I'd seen more of it in person, and my heart goes out to you for what you've dealt with this week. You're one tough cat.

I have no idea what I ran today, but I could go out and do it again from all the inspiring runs you all turned in today. Good job to all of you for about eleven billion stunning performances.

Thanks Shannon...

...for all your kind words and inspiration!

congraTuLAtions

what a fine day. Congratulations to all who ran and all who supported. What great accomplishments for everyone. I look forward to race reports from everyone and also plans for what comes next. It's funny that after a day or two of rejoicing and relaxing, the mind starts ruminating on the next adventure...

I hope everyone is comfortably relaxing tonight.

Yay!

It was great to watch the marathon, first with my friend from his driveway at mile 17.5, then from the road itself as Suzanne zoomed to Somesville. I'm so happy to hear about her great finish (Garmin said the huge hill at 19 slowed her not at all, so I'm not surprised) right on pace! And Julie, wow, a BQ after such a tough week, that's amazing. Great jobs by Ozzie, Peter and RK too. Congratulations to all--we have such a terrific team.

8.5 miles,core

2x around Back Cove reversed direction after first loop then carried on for a couple more miles or so.Surges, fartleks, tempo various distances.Decent running weather but a bit on the chilly side for mid-Oct.44 and wind kicking up.Perfect weather for racing though and congrats to all today.Nice sub-3:00 marathon Tim.

26.2M

Saturday - volunteered at the marathon expo on Saturday for 5 hours. I gave out bib numbers with Jim Newett and had a great time welcoming runners from all over the country. Ran 4 miles on the MDI course afterwards.

Sunday - quick hour at the Hubbell house trying to figure out how to best tie my shoes! Then off to the starting line. I was in 2nd place at the 1M mark (6:36), which wasn't exactly where I wanted to be.

Settled down just to make this a positive run for myself. Much like the BH Half in September. Austin passed me at Mile 5. Peter Keeney passed me at Mile 15.

Great to have Brian on board the rk express from Mile 17 to Mile 24. Can't emphasize it enough about the long runs, especially on the MDI hills.

Finally finished together with Jim Newett at the end. How appropriate for the ending since it started with him yesterday.

Sunday Edenometry

26.2 x Suzanne, RK, Erik, Austin, Julie, Amy, Tim, Peter K, Rick H = 236 miles

+ 79 miles of running and walking from other Edenistas

315 miles on land (and a little under 4 mi in the water)

Eden rocks.
