Sweat!!!
5 a.m. hill repeats ~ I think that's to fool your body into thinking you're dreaming??? Just tried to stay at a consistent speed with slightly faster times up the hills.
the best time to work out, precisely because you can delude yourself that you're still asleep until halfway through the workout...
20 minutes running, and a couple rounds of burpees and crunches. A little bird insists burpees are the most efficient way to whip yourself into shape, so I'm listening.
what are burpees???
not the only one that's out of touch. I had to Google it! :-)
He's learned to like burpees.
I'd like to see the movie of burpees...a group participation event
still want to know.
The burpee is a calisthenic exercise performed to increase strength and explosiveness. Performed in repetitions, it also improves cardio-vascular fitness.
1. Start in a push up position. 2. Quickly jump feet forward to a squatting position, like in a squat thrust. 3. Jump high into the air, bringing your knees up to your chest. 4. Land with feet together, on the balls of your feet.. 5. Drop back to a squat. 6. Jump feet back to position #1. 7. Repeat many times.
With practice the exercise can be done in a fluid, constant movement without pauses. This exercise can be performed in a relatively small area. Many variations can be added, such as performing a push up between steps #1 and #2. In one variation of the exercise called "whoopee jumps," a loud shout is added, which can help build endurance.
The burpee is one of a series of exercises common in a soccer player's circuit training, along with the split jump and squat thrust. It is anecdotally popular in prisons, where exercise time, equipment, and space are all limited.
Caution When extending the legs to position #1, be sure to avoid letting the hips drop too low (hyperextension of the lower back).
....I guess that means you need to be able to get your knees somewhere close to your chest?? I have a feeling this one's going to hurt...but I'm game!
that's a great picture. I always thought your legs were longer than that though.
I'm not that much out of shape.
geeze.
from a squat thrust? And why is it called a burpee?? I like the whoopee jump variation, but am thinking the neighbors may get concerned and/or annoyed.
Simply two names for it.

Keep running!
for a 2M walk this morning. Better than nothing, but not by much! I'd try doing some burpees, but after reading about them --- no thanks. :-)
Go team!
about how many shopping days left?
Christmas is coming, the goose is getting fat...
with Judy. FYI- Judy's easy 4 was not so easy for me. I was planning on 10 min. pace. No worries Judy, I'm a forgiving person.
I don't think we were that far off 10 min miles. 38+ for 4 miles...so slower than 9:30 / mile. Anyway, it was fun running with Ginger...let's do it again. Ginger said she would run my pace and she didn't ask to slow down. Good run.
with Brian - back to the grapefruit.
with Maggie and Shelly. It was so nice out we decided not rush anything. You have to enjoy this weather while it is here. I understand it is going to be much colder tomorrow. So we enjoyed the carriage roads, got in 4+ miles, lots of stretching and good conversation. Can't ask for more.
I am doing a long run from home tomorrow since Mom and Dad are going to babysit for me, but would be game to get me and DeLaney's lazy behinds to the lake Thursday morning.....
I would join you but I am going to be tortured instead. I was promised that my legs would be ready by Sunday.
Tomorrow, do you need any help with fuel for your long run or would you like some running company? I could find someone to pick me up and bring me back to my car. I know the perfect person I can ask.
I am starting around 12:45ish so I can have DeLaney fed and settled for the folks. I am running from home out towards Somesville and back. I would love company if you want to meet me.... you could park by Echo Lake and run the part back to my house, and then I could bring you back to your car? Let me know and thanks!!! :)
ever since I was pregnant with Oliver, I've had one MAJOR addiction, and that's naptime. So I'm an addict, and I don't know if I'm ready to fight it. I usually nap from 1-2:30 everyday. Lately, I've really needed it, with 2 workouts a week. It's kind of embarrassing, and probably old ladyish, but it's who I am.
I figured the timing wouldnt work....
I must say, however, that I am VERY jealous. DeLaney is still up to nurse 4 times a night and I am tired ALOT...maybe naps are what I need! :)
naps are good. Judson naps too, but at least I don't suck my thumb. You might find that the added workouts will make you more tired too. I noticed a marked difference when incorporating more miles and workouts. I can never nap very well after a long run because my legs ache too bad. I sleep like a baby after workouts though.
With Matt H. Tough run for both of us. Good to be done.
Core session with Brian, Liddy, Matt and Sarah afterwards. Sorry Ginger. I did call you and left a message. Although I was running up a big hill with Matt when I called so you probably just heard heavy breathing. And no I never usually have my cell phone on me for runs.
you need to give me the heads up sooner next time. Although, the phone call from the hill was interesting.
I tried to up the pace on Judson when he called, so at least he'd be breathing hard, but my legs were too dead to go any faster.
8 or 9 miles or so, plus core...
he sounded really out of shape:)
only got beeped at once, two trips around the mill dam loop at an easy pace.
to do 45 minutes on the NT this morning, but the anxiety of watching the clock kept my heart rate on the high side.
so tomorrow's going to be a rest day (I need to commit to this NOW so I don't get up tomorrow and think "oh I feel fine, I can train..." which is what often happens ;)
swim, bike, run. rinse, repeat. Or - swim bike run rinse REST repeat.
There are a lot of things swirling in my head about training right now. Off season. Cycling. Lifting? Training cycles and rest days (7 day cycle? 10 day?). Doubles. Getting sick, 2.5 hour naps (guilty of both today).
Anyway. I'm not training tomorrow and you can't make me ;)
my feet ever touching the ground. No burpees.
30 min on the ET. Amazing how much faster I go on the ET with music instead of the usual audio book or talk show - too fun. I thought a squat thrust omitted the vertical jump into the air. I also think there is a large contingent whose burpee definition never brings the knees to the chest (& after doing several, it is tough just to get air between floor & shoes). Alyie, please add 4 miles walking for us yesterday (& way to take a day off.) I'm not sure how to count the miles chasing three of my grandsons today, but they sure are fun. Life is good.
I'll be seeing you guys in 2 weeks!!! Scout out a good restaurant for you, Vanessa, Melissa, Julie, and I to dine together at! Also, are there any good spots for dancing on tables in JAX?
Expect anything less from an athlete after a marathon.
There is no shortage of food opportunities. Just tell me your most decadent preferences for pre and post-marathon dining. Table dancing will require an extensive review of night-life opportunities throughout the metro area, but that's what friends do. Just plan on a good time!
I think Melissa's interested in doing the pasta dinner that's available for the runners. It might be a good idea, that way I'm not tempted to eat the wrong things. I wonder if you guys can go to that dinner even though you're not running. Either way, we'll have plenty of opportunies to spend time together. I'll be there for 4 days. By the way, Melissa's running the half instead of the full marathon.
71 miles, nordic tracking, rowing (I think that's what Frank was referring to), swimming, 'lliptical too.
lots of burpees, which really sound to me like something babies do.
