Beach to Beacon Online Registration opens tomorrow!
Unless I take a sudden turn for the better, I will rest today. The sore throat is the worst. However, this does not appear to be the flu, so I will not whine or complain. :)
Next Thursday is the run/walk that CeCelia has helped put together for Interact Club. It is to benefit The 1000 Wells Project. I am planning on running, and if anyone would like to sponsor me I would appreciate it! I don't know why, but they are not taking their donations per lap, just flat donations. The money needs to be turned in the day of the event. If you are interested, email me (ground_tender@verizon.net) and I can add you to my pledge form, and either make plans to pick up your check or give you my mailing address and you can pop it in the mail.
CeCelia and I both thank you!!!
going myself Suzanne, but I'm happy to sponsor you instead. Especially since I'm going nowhere fast healthwise this week. Great job to all you who are out there making forward progress!
I am lucky and happy to report that I am feeling better as the day goes on. Did you catch what Zoe had? Hope you feel better.
10-miles on the marathon course with Matt F. Pretty easy run and it was nice to run without a sore throat.
fast, I wanted to hurt today. Went through 8 mi in 60:31 and then crawled through a little bit of a cooldown.
No shoulder pain so that's good. Now I'd like my strokes back, please.
3 x [5 x 100] on 1:30 - swim, middle 50 drill, swim
4 x [8 x 25] on :35 alt kick/swim - one set of each stroke 4 x 100 IM on 2:00 (just plain laziness)
4 x 50 breast/free 200 kick breast/flutter
4 x 50 fly/back 200 kick fly/flutter
2 x 250 pull 2 x 150 swim
Felt a little worn-out and my HR was higher than it should have been after the 100 IMs... :P
A little over 5 at the Y. Trying to build up speed and keep the knee pain free so far OK. Saw Peter K and Dr Dave there. Happy Anniversary to the Boyds. Judson have a good run in New Bedford. We ran that race many times I always enjoyed the course.
Jean--Don
3.5 mile w/u.
1 mile @7:40 (should have felt easier) 60 sec. rest, 3/4 mile @ 5:35 (which is around 7:30 pace I think), 60 sec. rest, 1/2 mile @ 3:42 (7:24 pace), 70 sec. rest, 1/4 mile @ 1:42.
4 mile c/d.
Math people, feel free to correct my math if I'm wrong.
Last week I ran 2 miles @ 7:35 pace, last summer I ran 2 miles faster than that, (of course I had a fabulous pacer.) Today I worked pretty hard to get my 1 mile in 7:40. Every week's different. I'm happy that I completed the workout and did pretty well. I don't want to be too hard on myself.
I wanna try it, maybe Judson will let me next week...
I did that workout back in 2002. First time I did it I didn't finish. I got through the mile and ran it too slow, then 400 meters into the 1200 my coach stopped me dead in the track and told me to go home because I looked aweful. 2 days later I ran the workout again and destroyed it. Steve Connor was there doing some 200's.
It was the start of a big breakthrough season and I ran some really good races between 3-k and 25-k.
Found this interesting article: To Stretch or Not to Stretch: The Answer is Elastic. I never have been much of a stretcher, but find that in treadmill weather, I tend to stretch more, just because the environment seems more conducive. Granted, I am not putting in the same amount of miles I used to do, but I must admit that my usual and chronic running aches and pains seem less. For what it's worth.
Neat
I stretch a lot (shoulders particularly). If I don't, my muscles feel way too tight and I hate that feeling.
The other thing to think about is that there's a trade-off between flexibility and stability. IE, a more flexible joint is a less stable one
For what it's worth, I never stretched much. Maybe it was because I was a morning runner and felt that I didn't have the time before leaving for work, or maybe it was because I felt it wasn't working enough to warrant the time and effort of getting up earlier to fit it in. Probably a combination of both. When I did partake in stretching however, it seemed that I got the best results if I did it just before going to bed. For some reason, I felt looser on my morning runs if I did it this way, versus doing it just before or just after a run.
As for prevention of pulls and strains, I think immersion in cool water right after working out has a lot going for it. I never did it, but we all know Judson subscribes to it, and, I remember reading an article years ago about world-class marathoner John Campbell doing it. If my recollection is correct, I believe he jumped into a cool lake as soon as he finished his workout.
diving into the nice cold pool after I run :D that felt SO good on my legs this AM.
Nice run to Schooner Head and back with Doug and Kevin with snowflakes coming down around us. Felt good, first enjoyable run since my last foray down Schooner Head this past weekend.
all on the ET today except for a race to and from the mailbox with my 3 year old grandson (he won on the way back). Get well soon Suzanne, Judson, and Shannon! Nice workout Ginger & workout Alyie. I look forward to reading that article Chris. Thanks for those "Happy Anniversary" wishes yesterday. I'm missing the woods & you all big time.
