2008 Eden Athletics - Jack Russell's Steakhouse Points Series

Eden Athletics is pleased to announce the schedule for the 2008 Eden Athletics – Jack Russell’s Steak House Points Series. This Series, now in its second year, allows runners the opportunity to earn points based on their overall, or age-group, finish in each of the twelve races that comprise the Series. At the end of the season, point totals are tabulated for each age-group and “open” category and awards are presented to the top finishers in their respective groups.

The Series will kick off next week with the Flat Top 5k on March 29th and will conclude with the Running of the Wildcats 5k on November 8th. Based on the interest we saw develop throughout last season we anticipate that this year there will be a strong “core” group of runners vying for points at all of these events.

The races in the Series include:

March 29th - Flat Top 5k (Lamoine)
June 14th - MDI YMCA 10K (Bar Harbor)
June 22nd - Harbor House Tremont Trot (Tremont)
July 19th - Eden Track Festival - 2 Mile Run (MDIHS Track)
August 9th - George Shaefer 5k (Winter Harbor)
August 23rd - Northeast Harbor Five Miler (NEH)
August 30th - Jack Russell’s Steakhouse Downhill Mile (Bar Harbor)
September 20th - Bar Harbor Bank & Trust Half Marathon (Bar Harbor)
September 20th - Bar Harbor Bank & Trust 5K (Bar Harbor)
October 25th - Rolling Bones 5k (Bar Harbor)
October 31st - Ledgelawn 400 (Bar Harbor)
November 8th - Running of the Wildcats 5k (Tremont)

Points Series Rules

You must complete 6 series races to be eligible for an award.
The age category of each runner is determined by their age at the first series race they enter for the calendar year.
The top 10 runners in each age group receive points for each series race they complete. (1st = 10 points, 2nd = 9 points, etc.)
Awards are based on the runner’s total points from their 6 best series performances.
Awards are presented to the male and female with the highest total point overall, regardless of age category. These 2 runners are not eligible for an age group award.
Awards are presented to the top 3 runners in the following age groups: 19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70 and over.
In the event of a tie, each runner’s next best performance (7th, 8th, etc.) is considered until the tie is broken and a winner is determined.

A number of local causes and organizations benefit from the races in the Series. These include:

A race in honor of Bill Pinkham
Scholarship programs at the MDI YMCA
Health and fitness programming at the Harbor House
George Shaefer Scholarship for Sumner High Students
Northeast Harbor Ambulance Service
Eden Athletics First Strides Program
The Tremont School Eighth Grade Trip

Paddling Season Starts

I was at the first Flat Top but haven't been since as it is now being held the same day as the opeining paddle season race. There seems to be toooooooooooooooooo many fun things and not enough days. I have been known to do a paddle race AND a 5k on the same day if I can get to them in time, but this one won't be one of them. Saturday's paddle race will make 131 I've done!

Wow!

Lots of paddling. Is that the race in Camden? My brother in law is headed there, and my husband is probably doing the Passagesawakeag (sp?) this season. I bet you'll be at both. : )

Paddling

Race Saturday is on the St. George River starting in Searsmont, next weekend is the Passy. Tell your hubby to look for a chic in a kayak painted with flowers on it (Flower Power) or a Flag Pattern; then again I could run the flame boat, or later on I'll race the "gator" boat. No boring boats in my garage!

race series question

Hi, I don't understand the 'number of races' column at the far left of the race series total. For myself, it says '1'. Now is this '1' because I only have points in one race (although I would have thought I would have placed in the Y 10k, but that's not noted here). Or is this a mistake in that I've competed in 3 races so far, the Y10k, the Tremont Trot, and yesterday's Schaeffer (although my time is not noted as Alice and I walked in after the 1 hour mark)? Thanks for clarifying.

Overall vs. age group points

Judy, I think you're just looking in the overall female category. You scored overall points only at Tremont where you got two points for being the 9th overall female finisher. So, in the overall female category, you have two points in total, accumulated from one race.

But, if you go down to your age group, you'll see that you've scored 8 points for being the third 50-59 female finisher at the Y 10K and also 10 points for being the first 50-59 female at the Tremont Trot. So, you have 18 points in total in your age group, accumulated from two races.

another question...

Do you only get races counted if you scored points in those races? I participated in the NEH 5-miler but did not score any points, but it was my fifth race of the series. Thanks.

No problem, Tennille...

...I'll make sure you're credited for at least five races. Thanks for letting me know.
