GO Flattop Runners All !
Did 30 min,7k on the elliptical here, now many hours of sitting on an airplane, or curled up in an airplane seat...but let's keep it positive. Good running everyone. I hope to see some of you tomorrow.
raods about the same as last report
good news the UV index today is a 4
off to pick/up PMS get up GINGER
Very well organized race. Miles were marked and someone at each mile shouting splits. What more can someone ask for. O, and the prizes were very nice.
It was really nice to see so many people I hadn't gotten to talk to in so long. Sorry if I was rude to anyone but I had to warm up some.
15 minute warmup with some strides.
5-k in 15:41, splits of , 4:53.45, 5:06.06, 5:11.74 and then 30 seconds. Went out harder than I'm in shape for so I'd put myself into a little trouble and I wanted to have to push myself and feel what I might feel like in a couple of weeks in my next 5-k with some competition. I think I did ok, especially running solo. It's always hard to push. Other than the Unity 5-k which is downhill I don't think I've ever run this fast for 5-k by myself. Just nice not to be running a 5-k on marathon legs.
Forgot, I cooled down for 28 minutes after the race.
Wedding was fun. Got to see a lot of people I hadn't seen since HS.
good signs to run that fast this early in the season. And has to be tough not to have someone to run with.
I am pretty good about pushing myself, but there is nothing like having someone right next to you to keep you pushing every second. But yes, I'm happy I ran well. Wish Adam could have been there to defend his record. We probably could have taken more time off with the two of us pushing. It's only the races third year, so I'm sure the record has less than a year to live.
I agree with Judson, everything was perfect even the weather. It's nice to be around the race crowd again. I saw Judson's face as he was coming in, and he was pushing! Nice job. I came into this race with little expectations due to my lack of training lately, but was very happy that I did it anyway. 3 miles for me. ALL eden runners did great today!
I tried to push myself pretty good and that means gritting my teeth and looking pretty bad for the pictures.
Off to a wedding.
Good to meet you, too.
Isn't there a saying that the better the finish is, the worse the photo looks? I think that should be a saying if it isn't one. I looked scary in the Kerrymen race; I can only imagine what I'll look like today.
Chris G always has good race photos and she's fast!
as I thought - it was cold enough, but the wind wasn't nearly as fierce as the weather guys said it would be. (Of course up here in Bangor, it's sunny - go figure).
I got 20:52 with splits of 6:16 (that shocked me), 6:45, 7:15, and :36 in the last tenth. I started to suffer on that last full mile but I was elated to have gotten as far under 7 for a pace as I did. I also remembered Ryan's mantra "If it's hurting you, it's killing them" so I pushed as hard as I could on the final quarter mile. I think it surprised him to see me in close range after the turning point - I know it surprised me.
I'm feeling so charged today after that result. I'm also very happy to have met many of you! I hope to see you guys often throughout the year!
It was fun to see so many running folk again. Good turnout and deceptively sunny at the right time for people to hop into cars and drive over for the run. I did what I'd hoped for and ran it as a tempo run with tons of company to keep me motivated and entertained. Somehow keeping my heart rate the same didn't translate into even splits. That'll take some work this coming year, to get the back half of my runs to be an even effort AND even pace compared to the starts. But 21:40ish and it felt very controlled so I'm happy. Nice job Tom and Robin for pulling this 5K and fun run off so smoothly.
And it was nice to meet Spotter, who easily pr'ed today!
did Brian do?
Tom and Robin did a great job with this race! Great to see such a good turnout.
I really wanted to PR today, but it wasn't meant to be. I ran late getting there, and Haydn decided to run pushing DeLaney so I had to get them situated. Mile 1 was 7:16...I really wanted to stick with Ginger and Karen, but couldn't....so I relaxed a bit after realized that. I got to the halfway point and was hitting my groove, when I see DeLaney's security blanket in the middle of the road. I HAD to pick it up, and then couldn't find the zone again. I even walked. Luckily, Kate Goupee grabbed that blanket from me and ran me in strong.
So...even after all that it was my 2nd best 5K ever and I only missed a PR by 9 seconds. Who am I to complain about that? :)
I'm happy to hear you say that. I'm off to work now. I'll have to write more later:)
Great job Suzanne. Thanks Kate for dragging her in.
Karen, Thanks for pulling Ginger along.
Since October, actually. Thanks to Tom and Robin, who did a great job for a nice-sized crowd, including a lot of Eden folks.
I had no goals other than to run hard and see what happened. I started a bit quick uphill and finished a little weak going back down, but it's been a long time since I've even tried to hold a strong pace for more than a few minutes, so I can't complain. Splits were 6:15, 6:21, 6:32, final time of 19:57.
Total mileage for the day was 7 with warmup and cooldown. Now it's time for this snow to melt so we can see everyone out on the carriage roads.
Tom and Robin did a great job organizing the race. Between the two of them, they've certainly run enough races to know how to put one on. Also, Liddy did a super job with the results.
I ran most of the race with Ginger we traded the lead a few times. She passed me with about .3 to go and ran a strong finish.
It was great to see so many familiar faces and visit with everyone.
Congrats to Judson and all the other Eden placers.
Had a great time visiting with everyone - a good run for all - the weather was good, the turnout impressive, many thanks to Tom and Robin and Liddy and all the other volunteers. Wonderful way to start the 2008 season.
Jean and Don
Said he ran a very controlled race in the mile. Ran splits of 2:42, 2:38. Mainly we were using this to feel out the track and get ready for the 800 tomorrow.
Sorry to miss the Flattop. I had intentions of running it and then running home to get a long run in, however I could not face 10 miles on Rt3 this morning. Explored MDI back-roads instead for 20.
Sounds like you all had a good day and that the race went well. Congrats also to Tom and Robin for their organization of the event, and to Liddy and Nora for providing timing services.
Great to see a few First Striders in the race and Jean and Don Bell back in the mix!
Go Wildcats!..Wisconsin down, a test against the Jayhawks of Kansas tomorrow for a trip to the Final Four. Bryant Barr, Mr. Maine Basketball, came off the bench last night to provide a few key baskets for the Cats. Go Wildcats!
and I get back into the pool and everyone who didn't know me was like "you went running before your race?" and everyone who did just smiled and said, watch and she'll be okay.
(she was) 5:55.28 in the 500 1:10.12 in the 100 (hides face in shame) 2:19.87 - relay split in the 800 FR
4+ miles. Just easy.
to all racers today! Lots of great performances out there!
continue to feel in better running shape daily.Nice racing today everyone in Flattop 5k.Nice mile Brian in Boston.Other Mainers from Dirigo RC competed male and female. On Friday Dan Franek from S.Portland,42,took overall 1st 3000m in 9:00.21,impressive.
Tom and Robin. I love this race; it's flat and the weather was ideal. Everything came together nicely, and I couldn't have asked for a better outcome. However, Karen's neon yellow coat will haunt me now. I went out a little fast for me, but I felt great and went with it. 7:07 was my first mile, 7:33 for the second and 7:46 was my last. I think even Judson succumbed to the wind in the last half too, which makes me feel better about my crazy splits. Mark took me out on a perfect warm up, which is something I never really took seriously before. Thanks Mark, I really think it helped.
nice job at Flat Top. I am sorry I missed it... sounds like you all ran really well!
great work for a well organized race and friendly volunteers at the flat top.
ran the 5k as a warm up course was marked, water stop - not sure if you would define them as hills, or you mean the downhills?
the race itself - i went out cautiously - i found out later i was suppose to break the wind for Judson for the first mile or so - but didn't quite accomplish the task. It's the flat top I thought - I have to go out fast! Paid for the brisk pace about a half mile in - ran easy rest of the way.
afterwards ran the 5K again as a warm down.
Thanks for a great time in Lamoine!

Everyone seemed to run well, but two people really impressed me at the race One was Dr. Dave. He looked great. I thought he was going to go catch Tim.
The second was Stephen Kirby. Whether he was racing or not, he's 14 years old and running 20 minute 5-k's. Keep it up.
I felt pretty good all race, which means I wasn't hurting enough for an all out effort. After adding some anaerobic work later in the season I'll be better prepared to handle the pain you know. My fastest 5-ks all ~18 flat have been in the summer following some speed stuff.
Track for me will get added after Boston recovery.
