Good luck racers!
Resting the legs today and doing a kayak race.
Anyone interested in racing the Get Fit 5K Sunday April 27 at 2PM in Tenants Harbor should give me a shout and I can send you an application. Registration taken right up to race start, but if you register before April 11, you'll get a race t-shirt. The entry fee is a donation and all money going to the American Lung Association- Maine. (We all need to breath right???)
+ 45 min teaching spin class.
I am NEVER going to have children. My parents went to Boston for a concert, and left Zach and I to watch Isaac (she told Isaac he is babysitting Zach and I, so we're not exactly sure WHO is in charge here). Isaac spent half of last night throwing up, and then he got up at 4 am and told me he couldn't sleep. I AM THE ONLY ONE WHO IS SUPPOSED TO BE UP AT 4AM!!!! little bugger, I hope he takes a nice long nap this afternoon.
Sorry to hear he's not well.
Two big miles for me. : ) Slower than Bob, so I guess I have more work than he does to get back to speed!
he is better now. I think that he was very anxious last night with my parents gone, and having greasy french fries for dinner didn't help!
I do want kids... even if they throw up on occassion... I can't imagine not having a family.
1 mile w/u, 10K run at 7:26, 2 mile c/d. I'd like to say that was an easy run but that was about all the faster I could run. I'd better get myself into shape as I was about 30 secs per mile faster 4 months ago. Feels like summer has landed in these parts. It was 72 at 6 a.m. Good company out there today & there was chocolate post-run. Life is good.
nice and easy.
The winner of the Rockland 5k should be reporting soon.
Jeff, Ryan and I ran the 5-k course for our warmup. Watch is dead so I didn't time it.
Some strides, then 5-k in 15:40. A little slower than I wanted, but not bad. No idea what I ran for splits with no watch, but I felt like I ran more even compared to last week and felt like I could have run another 3 miles like that. Jeff was a trooper. He hung on to me for almost half the race and really was above his comfort level, and he still ran faster than he did last year.
After we took a few minute rest, but with no track and the miles not being marked I skipped the planned workout and Jeff and I ran the 5-k course again doing 30 second on/30 second off. We covered it just under 18 minutes like that.
About a mile cooldown, then the awards, then Jeff and I ran another mile.
I didn't really see the results, but I think Ryan ran 19:08 and he actually went out easy for once. Spotter looked good, not sure of his time. Rob also ran and the Hetzer family cheered us on.
Let me know how good it is! What restaurant was that, again?
the Lobster for this summer when I go back for another race. Autumn, Jeff and I are going to enjoy it. Of course I plan on winning more lobster this summer and you're all invited when I do.
Amy and I will be starting at the Y at 8:30, Sun. morning. Please join us!
Got out there to explore recently impassable areas. The park loop road looks fine except for some downed branches--I didn't run a lot of it, but I didn't see a speck of snow or ice. The forecast is looking great for taking care of anything frozen that still remains. Started slow but felt good by the time I got down to Sieur de Monts and ended up running just under 48:00.
I got around 21:30, I believe. They didn't have obligatory posted results on the wall, and I didn't check/stop my watch until I was well past the finish line and recovering.
I warmed up a full mile because I wanted to work out the sluggish feeling I had this morning. The first mile of the run was a bit embarrassing because my left shoe came untied so that ate up valuable seconds. Whoever was calling out time said 6:37 just before I passed by her, but it didn't feel like the first mile yet. I think I was right around 7 on the first mile.
I admit that I got really frustrated on this run because I felt totally lost. I should have taken extra time to go through this course pre-race because there were no mile markers, few people cheering me on, and no one I recognized on the route. Someone shouted "You're half way there!" when my watch said 13:30 which got me massively discouraged. I tried not to drag at all though because I still wanted to finish strong and even.
Only when I realized I was in sight of the high school did I realize how close I was to finishing. I just passed the 20 minute mark when I finally got the adrenaline I needed and just kept going faster and faster until the last 200 feet when I was going all out - someone was on my tail and I wasn't letting him get past me!
My goal with this race, since I didn't think I'd PR, was to maintain a sub-7 pace on each mile. It felt like I was doing that, so I feel accomplished after having such a down week running.
Around the Kenduskeag Stream loop in Bangor just a little bit ago. With the 1-mile warmup and race run, that makes just over 9 for the day. Cramped a bit in my left calf on the last mile. Ice, ice, baby.
Take the watch off or look at it only a couple of times, but only if what you see doesn't bother you. You never know at and road race whether or not the miles are marked right, if the course is long, if it's short. If you can find a USATF certified course then it's probably right, but I've seen some of the biggest and most famous races in the US misplace mile markers and have short and long courses.
I wanted to come down a bit earlier so I could get a feel for the course and make sure I had landmarks to keep myself focused. In essence, I was running like I was blind (which, without glasses, is partially true) and I don't quite have that 'feel' of where my pace should be yet. I think my biggest issue was that I didn't know where the final leg of the route was - I thought we were going around the back road again (where the first mile was) and it totally threw me off my rhythm. If I knew I was that close to the finish, I would have come in at full speed earlier.
I talked it over with Ryan on the way back to his house and I learned a lot about prep for those types of courses. The course was fine, and I didn't do bad! I was just frustrated more at myself for being a bit unprepared. The loose laces didn't help either. :)
I ran the whole course beforehand with Jeff and Ryan and still almost got lost just before 2-miles. Jeff was probably about 10 seconds back at that point so I couldn't follow him. I looked around and guessed a road, then pointed so Jeff would see me(asking a question without talking) He didn't yell at me when I turned so I knew I'd guessed right, but for about a minute I was pretty unfocussed and worried I'd gotten lost.
out to seal cove and back from my house. My park roads are very snow and ice covered still. I had my stabilicers on most of the time. This is a good workout run with two good hills on each end. Good job to the rockland 5-k winners!
Pushed a little, probably due to the mental boost of not needing another Sat morning 3 hour run. I'll be at the Y tomorrow at 7:30.
It has been a wonderful rest week- just what I needed!
Great job in Rockland you guys!!!
I really wanted to do the Tiger 5k today, but did a canoe & kayak race instead. I ended up with a first in the men's kayak division! Was so phyched about placing, that I came home and ran my 5K route after all :)
Are you going to the famous, world-renowned Kenduskeag Stream Race in two weeks?
The Kenduskeag is my FAVORITE, guess because you get to run at the portages! Have not registered yet, but am thinking yes, though I have to be in Boston the next day to get me marathon packet, so I'm not positive, but I have an idea I will overcome the intelligent thing to do!
You rock!
that is inspiring nice win.I thought of the rest is over rated comment after my run before jumping on the bike,I agree.
sloshing along with a belly full of paella and cake after my friend's birthday party. Happy 90th, Harold!
Nice running in Rockland today. Congrats on the big win, Mr. Cake.
So, the blister I had is healing nicely....except that on the border of where the old skin was and where the new skin meet, the new skin is cracking along the edges. Since I am doing a long run tomorrow, am I better off using blister block, or should I cover it with moleskin? Thanks!
Don't wear those shoes again until they are broken in. My advice on blisters is not going to be helpful. I've had blisters spanning the whole bottom of my feet and raced 2 hour trail races the following week with my feet wrapped up in ducktape. As the old saying goes, if you cannot duck it, Ya,,cannot say the old saying. But I'm a little nuts, Matt Hougan's words.
do you have any body glide and are your sock a cool max or a quick dry fabric make sure they are not cotton
or dry them and put the blister block band-ades left I got them bad a Sugarloaf ( with Ginger the last 10 miles ) and they were not a problem the next week at Cabot Trail
I have body glide, blister block, and those special band aids.
The shoes have about 70 miles on them and feel great....last weekend it was way warmer than I thought and I wore VERY heavy socks. Stupid, I know. I will make sure to wear my moisture wicking socks tomorrow.
Did you go to Rockland, Tom?
happy to hear the races in Rockland and on the water went well! Paula, out of curiousity - why'd ya enter the men's division?
Who's butt is better to kick?
No watch, but I know my loops by now. 8-miles with Matt Hougan. He called me nuts. He's the one who's signed up for Boston and hasn't run in a month. Now that's nuts.
Judson, Spotter, Paula, and RK. You all rock!
A few easy miles today while weaving through a pack of Cub Scouts who were out picking up trash along the trail. I gave them a thumbs up..
progressively ran this race faster as was intended. Need to do speedwork - Need to do speedwork. But probably should do more after Boston.
Speaking of which - i'm headed to Beantown for a conference on Sunday - planning on running some of the Olympic Trials course while I'm there.
Top 5 today at the race. There were about 45 finishers - Rockland Track did an excellent job putting on the race! I picked up an application for RCR! (They did a great job asking folks to become RCR members) Go Tigers!
Monday a.m. let's run or Tuesday. Wednesday I'm out of the office & Thursday's a possibility for a run, too. Were are you staying? Can we meet about 7:15 -7:30 depending on distance from gym (Government Center). E-mail me scalder@vtisp.com.
Keep running!
Looks like Tuesday will work best for me. Conference is at the Marriott Boston Copley Place. Cell is 207-478-2381. Look forward to seeing you Tuesday for a run along the rivah!
How about we meet at the Esplanade (Hatch Shell) at 7:25 (over the foot bridge near Arlington Street & Beacon.
in a little over 2 hours with 5 one minute pickups near the end. No energy, but that could have been my last few days of workouts & oh, ya, I donated platelets yesterday. I soaked in the frigid Ipswich R. for 8 minutes and my legs feel great.
easy pace at Back Cove in 1:01,usual core 500 push-ups/crunches then 16 miles bike 5th gear.Congrats on the win Judson and nice racing all.
With the ladies, Karen, Meagan, Ginger, Lisa, Marion, and some four legged friends. It was a bit rainy and cold, but really nice to get out there. May go again on Sunday.
it's APRIL ;-)
I haven't slept through the night in 18 months thanks to Miss DeLaney..I will blame my confusion on that! hehe
