"You already have everything you need to be a long distance athlete. It's mind set-not miles, that separates those who do from those who dream."

with 15k @ 7:40 pace
pigfarm-bass harbor loop. Nice run Alyie.
Jogged to the Y to meet Shannon, Kevin and Doug, then ran out Schooner Head/Park Loop Road way down to where the road goes over an ocean inlet (forget the name of the area) and back. Going by time I guesstimate we ran 13.5 Y and back, then add the apt mileage and you get 15. Good run, Kevin and Shannon look ready to have fun in Boston and Doug and I are ready to start going a little longer.
with the aforementioned crew. It felt great, miles sliding by easily. That had a lot to do with great company, not some consistent long running lately. I wish I'd done more quad work, but I think I'm otherwise ready. And I got a chance to have a two second conversation with Amy T, Amy N and Ginger as they zipped by us for their run!
Short, easy run to loosen up the muscles for some short ab work afterward. Not a lot of time to run today since the family wants me to cook dinner. Gotta make the house tidy before they come over!
First 10.58 miles with Tim T. and Matt H. First 15.92 miles with Tim, finished off with 16.78 miles. Nice run.
..with various surges. 2:10. Great run, I feel wonderful.
Off to CeCelia's ceremony!! :)
Spring is here!
with Bozo, took about 2 hrs:) Just what I needed.
Suzanne! Looks like you just ran 15 miles at marathon pace! The hills you were on today will make Sugarloaf a breeze! You just wait! I can't wait for you to see the course. Good going.
I was a little nervous at first, simply because I overslept a little and then knew I had to get to CeCelia's thing in BH. But I stayed relaxed and it all worked out. My first 3 miles I used to really warm up, then everything just clicked. I love those days! :)
Was supposed to run 15-miles today, but did 15 runs at Sunday River instead. Personally, I think it was a harder workout!
As for a serious answer to Alyie about why I race in the men's division. I actually did start in the female division, but because of low numbers, it wasn't like I was really racing anyone, especially if I was the only chic that showed up, so by moving to the men's division I got more competition and started to really push myself and it's paid off. Now my goals aren't so much in the division place but the overall place. Like the Kenduskeag Race, 16.5 miles of paddling, three portages and the last time I finished it, I was 12th out of 574 boats. Same goes for hockey, I enjoyed playing on a men's team better than the co-ed team. I think you tend to push harder when you're with guys, they don't hold a grudge and they don't give you "the look" when you tell dirty jokes!!!!!!!!! (ok, the last statement is the REAL reason)
competing for overall place as well, and agree with you that you can 'push' harder when racing guys. One of the cool things in masters swimming is some meets are seeded solely on time, and I've winded up being the only female in a heat on occassion. Plus there are co-ed relays!!!
I like training with guys better than other girls... not sure if it's the competitive aspect, or less cattiness and girl talk (aplogozing in advance if that comment makes anyone mad) :D
female Kona winner this past October, won IM Australia today... 9:03:55
We now return to regularly scheduled programming
Is it good? Do you guys go? Should I sign up?
:)
it's not that great. How about our families have dinner together the night before? There are a few good restaurants in the area.
...yes, dinner the night before sounds great. Andrew and Jenny will be with us too though, they may be on a little bit of a tight budget so we may have to find something fairly inexpensive....
most of it on the rowing machine.
Our totals as of today... Edenometer ytd = 9938, Miles run for Two Trials = 8,091, Funds raised for Two Trials = $404
Just cruising on the ET and the rower today. Lots of good runs out there Team Eden. Good job! Life is good.
I counted 19 miles for you on Sat. Is that right? I'm trying to get caught up on your miles right now. What am I, your secretary?
Lazy-boy
4 on Friday.
2-miles. Didn't seem right without getting in at least a small trot.
on the Park Loop Road. Nice running now. We kept waiting for the sun to break through, but that's for the work week :) We saw runners and cyclists and dog walkers... a little colder than we hoped. I for one am looking forward to 50 degree temps this week !
Ah, motivation. Getting up early, watching the Weather Channel, deciding to drive the 50 miles, paying the $10, waiting in the car for the rain to let up, delaying the start 15 minutes, realizing staying dry was not an option. The weather was the worst ever, for me. A heavy rain, brisk breeze and temps in the mid 40's. Miles 2 and 8 were through a muddy track turned stream that reminded me of a prison escape route. I only fell once, rolling into soft mud. Good stuff that wasn't a PR day.
That sounds like fun.
Sounds like a GREAT time!!!
Trails are my friend. I even got a few scratches on the way down Caddy tonight when I was bushwhacking through the woods. Still be a another few days to a week until the trails are fully cleared, but they were not bad.
Julie, you should run the Seven Sisters trail race. It's a good time, i've run it twice.
I'm always up for a fun adventure!
It's early May in Conn. so you probably will still be in Florida. I usually do it to shock my system. It's 12 miles. You go up over the Seven sisters and then back the way you came. It takes me about 2 hours, some running, some power hiking, falling and crawling, mud in your face. Someone has even died falling of a cliff. At halfway they have a huge amount of food and drinks, but how long you stay there getting food or not getting food can be a strategy. Afterwards anything I do for races whether 5-k or marathon seems easy.
But you'd love it. You're into sick crap like that.
I think the website is www.sevensisterstrailrace.com
...you've found my weakness...mud, high cliffs, and sick challenges. My favorite marathon so far has been Catalina Island ~ the year I ran it there was rain, high winds, hail, and major mud ~ a GREAT time!!!
I'm sure you'd love the 50-k that is on the island each Sept. or Oct. It's not really a race, but we run lots of it, mostly as a group and have aid stations set up. Pretty much you run across the whole eastern side of the island. I'll let you know when it is later this summer. I'm sure you'd love it.
