Cadillac Mountain 10k Run

The 15th annual run up Cadillac, held on the first Sunday in May, will take place in just two weeks.

The run will begin at 9 am from the gazebo at the Bar Harbor Village Green. The course is along Mt.Desert St./ Eagle Lake Road for approximately two miles, then onto Paradise Hill to the Base of Cadillac (3.1 miles) and onward to the Summit. Refreshments and transportation back to the Village Green will be provided. Clothing choices should take into account that the temperature atop Cadillac is typically 10 degrees colder and much windier than downtown. But the view is worth it!

This run had its roots as an inter-departmental competition between the Bar Harbor Police and Fire Departments and, later, Acadia National Park Ranger. Its two original founders, Ron Bilancia and Sean Hall, participated in last year's event.

While this is not (and never will be) a sponsored or sanctioned race, and there is no prize money involved, a long tradition of this run is the collecting of a donation ($10) and an awarding of all proceeds to a local charity of the winning runner's choice. Last year, $215 was presented to the Southwest Harbor Animal Shelter.

Plan to join us Sunday morning May 4th.

Cadillac Mountain 10k still on ???

I'm looking forward to running this next weekend. who else is coming?

Oh! Let's ditch the Sunday Run at EL

Didn't see that the Cadillac run was that day. The new meeting for Sunday's group run will be at the BH station at 9.

Is there a contact person for this run?

Hi Judy! In the past, Rick H has been the organizer. I will send you his email address.

Have fun!

Would May 25 or 31 be better for this event?

The annual run from the Bar Harbor Village Green to the Cadillac Summit has been held on the first Sunday in May (And shows up on the calendar that way). Two years ago, we had wonderful weather and a great time with 17 runners participating. But last year there were only five. Most common among the reasons were that, being so close to the Sugarloaf Marathon, it conflicted with that event's pre-race taper period. I have to admit that I have been so discouraged that I seriously considered ignoring it this year.

Several people have asked about this year's event. And I see it was "automatically" scheduled for the 4th. Please let me know if you prefer that date or would rather wait until after Sugarloaf. IF NO ONE INDICATES A PREFERENCE FOR THE LATER DATE, WE'LL GO AHEAD WITH THE 4TH. You may contact me at (800) 409-7577, (207) 288-5455 or (207) 460-0707. My email address is rick@spglass.com

I'm planning on going on the 4th. Speaking of which, Tom and Michele do you want to carpool? Amy and Tim? Robin? We've got quite a crew over this way that could jump in one car. I can take five, six if we take the truck.

You can switch the date if more folks can make it and it's better for you Rick. I know I can't make it on the 25th but will keep my fingers crossed for the 31st...

The 4th works for me

I would prefer this because the 25th is the Cabot Trail Relay weekend.

I'd prefer

the 25th or 31, as I've a swim meet at Northeastern this weekend and am not sure I can get to the island on Sunday.

two cents.

this weekend

works best for me I am at cabot that weekend also and there will be more cars on the road so i think it would be better this weekend if the weather works out well

We'll go with the 4th.

From the comments here, and some more I've received by phone, it looks like we have more than enough folks who want to rise to great heights on the 4th. So we'll keep it simple and do just that. Aylie: I do hope that you find it possible to join us this weekend. that would be wonderful.

The weather forecast is looking good too. :-)

Thanks very much for keeping this tradition..

going, Rick. It does look like you'll have a good group of runners on the 4th.

I understand that Rick needs a few more volunteers to help direct and encourage the runners to the summit. (It's your opportunity to paint yourself orange and act like a crazy cycling fan on Alpe d'Huez) If anyone is willing to help with this Sunday morning please contact him at rick@spglass.com (y removed)

Forget the "Y"

No, I'm not talking about the YMCA.

The domain name in my email address is spglass. It stands for Sparkle Plenty Glassware. But that's my other life.

Any crazy volunteers who still would like to help out, call me or send an email to rick@spglass.com

See y'all Sunday.

Rick Hirte

No "Y," but if you are looking for a reason to volunteer..

You can help with this social run and not miss out on any EA-JR's Series points.

Volunteers

Volunteers are needed to guide runners along the correct route. It would be helpful to post folks at every intersection and turn. After the last runner passes each checkpoint, the volunteer can drive to the summit and help cut oranges & bananas, pour Gatorade, write down finishing times and give a lift to anyone who would like a ride down. It's fun for everyone to have a band of busy cheerleaders at the top.

Because we're using the Park, this is a social run; not a race. ;-)

Rick

It's a Go!

Morning showers have cleaned the air and greened the land. Looks like they've stopped, so we're going ahead with everything.

Bring a bag of any clothing you want to send up to the finish line with one of the volunteers.

See you in a couple of hours. :-)
