Tuesday, May 6: Daily Log

A runner is a miser, spending the pennies of his energy with great stinginess, constantly wanting to know how much he has spent and how much longer he will be expected to pay. He wants to be broke at precisely the moment he no longer needs his coin.

And now it is ICE BATH time. Legs are starting to feel, well, tired.

7.5M

in about 60 min. along the riva'. Pain free, too! Then some vanity lifting; its not the draws that are a problem, it's balancing the mirror that's the real issue.

Keep running!

Thought of a quote

this morning after someone asked how I could possibly run in extreme temperatures:

"I've run on a 10 degree day with a -10 windchill. I've run on a 90 degree day with a 110 heat index. Mother Nature isn't my enemy - she's my personal trainer."

nice

I like it.

Hello Eden

Thank you for all the kind words. I've been really enjoying the biking and had a great time racing last weekend: my first Time Trial! I didn't know that Paula posted here. Cool! I'll look for you at other races. It seems like a great group of people in spite of the weird fashion sense. Lycra shorts with weird padding were not what I had in mind when I imagined my 50-ish year old wardrobe.

It's a beautiful day out there for a run or a ride. My workout was 5x 4 minute repeats at 90% (heart rate monitor). It just felt great.

Funny Clothes

Well bike clothes probably aren't as funny as biking with paddling gear. It was so cold Sunday, I wore my neoprene paddling shirt and my alpaca paddling socks, brrrrrr.

Did you

wear the pink outfit you showed me?

Feet....................again

Ok, another foot question. My little toe that was so blistered from Boston is ready to loose it's toe nail. There is no new toe nail underneath though. Do I let the toe nail come off or should I try to tape it in place until another one comes along??? Usually you loose a nail when it bruises, which I have one of those too, and by the time it's ready to fall off, the new one is there, but not the case this time. I guess it's one more adventure to add to my list!!!!!

Also, loved the photo of Shannon running up the mountain with the buggy. Kids make great training tools. When my son was young, I bougth him a kayak. I would put him in his life jacket, put him in the boat, then tie his boat to mine and pull him along as I paddled!

8 miles

sucking in lots of pollen and several bugs. It's probably about time to change the air filter.

Core Workouts

After a long session at the gym, mowing my lawn, and about an hour digging/pulling up weeds and grass that grew in where the water was supposed to be draining off into the sewer (instead of into my basement), I'm exhausted.

I might still go out and run, though.

4.25 miles

and some strides.

Also some running with my track kids, but I don't keep track of that.

Sugarloaf

So, who is going? who is running? 15K or Marathon?

I am feeling the urge to do the marathon...others?

'Fraid not for Sugarloaf

but I need to get you out on a tennis court sometime soon.

I should be 15k-ing

barring any spontaneity ;-)

I want to see how close I can come to the time I ran there my senior year of high school. That was the first time I met most of Eden in REAL LIFE! Like Judson and Brian and Amy P and everyone.

Zach came home from Colby's swim banquet the other night and said one of his swimmers is training for the 15k too. I told him, if you yell at her while she's running, she will actually hear you :-)

I'm considering

running the marathon. I'm not 100% committed yet. hehe

Marathon

This will be my second - my first was Hyannis in February (4:42:35). RK expects me to fall in 4:15-4:20, but I'm aiming for sub-4. Either way, I'm excited!

Maybe, Spotter and Suzanne

we can hang together for the first few miles, and keep each other from going too fast. I'll be shooting for 8:45-8:50 for the first few miles. It's very important to go out AS SLOW as possible because the early miles are very fast and it will catch up with us in the end if we're not careful. Did you guys read the 26 day countdown to Sugarloaf? It will be very helpful.

Don't worry, Suzanne

I won't be sprinting the first mile of this race. I think you're a good pacer so I'll be trying to settle in near you in the early miles, then who knows what will happen after that.

Yup, I've read it

and will probably be reading it again a few more times before the big day.

The 18+ mile run I did on Saturday was huge in getting me mentally prepared. My splits on the first few miles were 8:38/8:52/8:45 as I was trying to find the right balance of pace and endurance. As long as I keep disciplined and stay close to that time I should be fine.

I think running together for that opening stretch would help a lot. I'm all for it!

Spotter

sounds like a plan. Of course, we can change that plan at anytime, if one of us becomes uncomfortable. Sometimes in marathons, I need to be all alone. I remember at MDI a few years ago, I had to tell some guy that I needed to put my music on and do my own thing. He just wanted to chat along, I wanted to be left alone. Are you going up the night before, I hope? You don't want to drive up that morning, especially if you have a challenging time goal.

Did you hold those splits for all 18 miles?

You don't

want to stick with me. After today, I decided I'm shooting for 12 minute miles! LOL

ya, Suzanne

12 min. miles sounds about right. I'll be shooting for 7:30 pace.

RE: Sugarloaf

I am running the marathon. I have had both good and bad runs at Sugarloaf after running Boston. This year with only 4 weeks between maybe tough unless you are well recovered.

well recovered?

how does 3 weeks of being sedintary sound?

perfect

you can run with me.

5.5

Very early morning run, easy around Park Loop Road and town. My legs feel fine but a little fatigued, so taking yesterday off was probably a good idea after 23 miles and a lot of Cadillac over the weekend.

6.2

run and row combo.

I think LeBron and the Pips could give the C's a run.

6m, run/row combo

5m run & a mile of ET with 1.5 miles of strolling with Vanessa, who ran 3 of her own (I count it all!) Loved the vanity lifting tips Steve! I like how you are combining your protein & carb intakes with your runs Chris. Shannon, you and the girls are awesome doing the Cadillac 10K - thanks for the picture and link Rick! Life is good.

upper hadlock

love that loop!
