Ode to the Plantar Fascia

Latin cousin to Achilles,
architectural upholder
bearing its magisterial bundle
beneath an imperial arch,
rods around ax
around axle and axis,
staunch stanchion of the canonical self,
aquiline and august,
tensile, earthly, planted
and wound in sinewed plaits,

inverted hammock
on which the body rests its burden
like a red-faced tourist
in the shadow
of a coconut palm,

only now is your grievance
made known to me,
only now do I hear your cry,
unenviable membrane,
faithful attendant upon my every stride,
tender sole, antipodal to the soul,
pale mirror to the palm
of this hand,

only now do I honor your service,
and my dignity is hobbled,
only now do I learn to address you by name,

and the Empire
trembles.

Eden Track workouts

This seasons Eden track workouts will start up again next Wed the 14th at the MDI high school. Frank has secured the permissions from the HS. The target is to have workouts starting around 5:30 pm so come early for your warmup. These are loosely organized and people can come and run their own workout or follow the workout I bring. These workouts can be followed by runners of all abilities and training levels. The weekly Wed evening workouts as well as additional information can be viewed in the Eden Training pages (weekly schedule pending).

The first workout will be a 20 min threshold followed by 4x200M. People racing this weekend can use the workout to try to zero in on their goal race pace.

I hope to see you there.

4.75 miles

and strides.

What a difference a day makes! The run was wonderful, I kept it nice and easy...and the strides felt "delicious". This is the word Brian used when describing to me how they should feel. :)

Yay!

UPS just arrived with my Wright Socks. Can't wait to try them!

Off to track. Our meet is at the Cohen School in Bangor, if any of you are around and want to cheer us on!

Socks

Are those the socks that are going to keep you from getting blisters??

Thats

the word on the street. :) They have a double layer and apparently that cuts down on friction. I hope your feet are on the mend!

6 miles in Lewiston

48:09. Took it easy today because I felt sluggish before I even stepped on to the street. My body never likes running mid-afternoon for some reason. In spite of that, an 8-minute pace for an easy run isn't bad at all. That also puts me over 500 miles run for the year so far.

I'll be in Lewiston for the MPBN TV Auction until Sunday morning. I'll also be running in the Run for Relief 5K on Saturday morning. It's so close to where I work and where I'm shacked up that I can walk to and from the race and still have plenty of time to get ready for work at 11. :)

5.8 miles

easy with Tom, Amy, and Dilly. I'm waiting for butterfly legs.

6 miles....

ran from the high school out and back on eagle lake road while waiting to pick up my son.

Speaking of whom...

Happy (tomorrow) Birthday, Patrick! Hope you are feeling good as new!

Thanks Chris....

He's doing very well.

6 miles

me too. Nice and easy.

weather report...

...time to get back to Maine! It's 7:40pm and 88 humid degrees out...:)

we

had a thunder storm and hail as Stephen's track meet started
he won the 1600 and the 800 5:29 and 2 :36 this week both races were more tactics than last week so the times were slower but he worked on pacing and kicking coming off the turns
10 miles for me today 4 at 4:am and almost 6 with Amy and GingerAle
so i will not have to run again until Cabot trail in 2 weeks/now that is a taper

6.6 miles

Glad to see track workouts are about to begin. One reason to look forward to Wednesdays!

6M

on the dreadmill in beautiful Bridgeport, CT in the early am. It's nice to be home tonight.

Keep running!

A Cookie?

So... I just got home from work and I wanted a cookie, listen to what I found in the cookie container, written by my lovely husband. "A Cookie? Aren't you in training? Wouldn't it be better if you had a banana and water or juice? Think about it Trainee!"

I'm having 2 cookies.

Yum

Just say that you imagined they were a banana and water.

Meanwhile, I gorged myself on the mexican food donated to auction staff and volunteers. Extra sit-ups in the morning..

way to go

were they Ginger Snaps

yup

they were big and chewy Ginger Cookies.

And you've earned 'em

A cookie has no impact on your training and has lots to do with your happiness. : )

You all make me laugh. Looks like I missed a lot with Liddy appearing on the board and ups and downs for many folks' workouts and super hot weather reports from eden south. I've biked to work on Mon/Tues/Thurs but haven't run a step since I've caught the crud. I'm hacking it out of my lungs now and want to jump back in to group runs asap. Sorry I'll miss you at EL today Suzanne and maybe Amy!

5.5

No watch, sun, Great Meadow Loop, stomach fine. That worked out well.

Ginger, is your husband channeling Nancy Clark? She's the nutritionist who keeps appearing in running mags telling you to order your chicken without sauce and dress your salads with light dashes of oil and vinegar. Um, WHY do you think I run, eh? A big part of it is so I can eat food that actually tastes good without guilt! Bring on the cookies :-)

Cookie

I'm sure you all know that Tim isn't being critical, he's half joking around but also very much wants me to be happy when I cross the finish line. You guys are all so sweet to stick up for me though:) Although, the Snickers for supper the night before my workout was not a good idea. It was sooo good, though. I got a good lecture about that one! I just want to run my marathon knowing I did everything right beforehand. I tend to beat myself up when I get tired and think about all of the things I did wrong, well not this time.

Hubbies and Cookies

Training in my household is such a family affair. My family is so supportive. My husband is the one pulling me out of bed many mornings saying go run - we are all sacrificing for this – GO. They are all cheering for me. So when I did not do so well in Boston my oldest said “I am a bit disappointed,” my husband said now you HAVE to run Sugarloaf - you worked so hard, and my little one said to everyone but “she got a medal.” I just wish my husband did not make cookies EVERY night, then go to bed and leave me alone with the lot. I am a cookie monster. Ginger, can your husband speak to my husband about COOKIES? FYI- NO 26.2 for me at sugarloaf . . . for now.
