Spied a coyote lurking on the path ahead, and spent the rest of my run contemplating evasion tactics.
Honestly, the thought of holding this for 26.2 miles WAS stressing me out. I was uptight and didn't enjoy it at all. I thought it would be effortless, of course the wind didn't help matters. I averaged 8:30's and my splits are all over the place. Mile 1-8:42, mile 2-8:20, mile 3- 8:23, mile 4-8:33. One minute it felt easy, another min. it felt hard. I really need to focus on staying relaxed and I'll be fine on Sun.:) Great learning experience today.
...breathe relax, breathe, relax, breathe, relax...you're going to do GREAT...breathe, relax, breathe, relax, breathe, relax...run comfortably...breathe, relax, breathe, relax...:)
:P
with your MP run!
So, today I tried to mimic race day as closely as possible, except for the getting up really early part. :) I wore what I plan to wear on Sunday (Eden gear of course!) and only did a 1/2 mile warmup. After the 1/2 mile, I ran 4 miles at marathon goal pace. I was aiming for 8:30s, and splits were 8:26, 8:03, 8:13, 8:28. 2 1/2 mile cooldown.
I felt great today. I know some of my splits were fast, but I am not going to worry. I am aware that I need to not go out too fast, and I am aware of my pacing inconsistencies. I will just adjust accordingly on Sunday as needed.
I agree with Julie, Ginger...RELAX. You will be great!
as will Kevin and Tim T and spotter and the rest of Eden*.
Judy, you had mentioned running Sugarloaf - are you doing the marathon?
*not purposefully excluding anyone, I just can't keep track of who's doing what.
Alyie, I'm not doing Sugarloaf because of the Cabot Trail Relay the following weekend. So I'll be biking around the island and thinking of everyone over at Sugarloaf.
just an itsy bitsy weak moment. Better now then Sun. Don't worry, I'll be so relaxed I may just race in my slippers. By the way Julie, you forgot a comma:)
It's one of the weird things about tapers that at some point within a week and half of your marathon you have a run that makes you think you're toast. Goal pace? Heck, if feels like you'd be lucky to hold recovery jog pace for 10 miles. Happily, race day adrenaline seems to do an excellent job of snapping you out of the funk. So leave the slippers and home and enjoy a strong run.
that helps a lot.
while my son is in driver's ed, I ran from Mdi HS up norway drive, thru a trail back to Mdi HS,then around the track some. Nice and hilly.
A little abbreviated, so call it 5 miles. My legs were a little tired after 25.5 miles and 4 sets of competitive tennis in the past four days, but what a nice day.
on the dreadmill, stretchin', and some vanity lifting. No pain on this one. 0.3M walking w/u, 7.6mph up to 8.5mph (.1mph increase every 1/4M) for a 23:30 5K finishing with 3 x 0.5min @ 9.5 mph with equal time rest @ 7.2 mph. Too much info ...
Keep running!
30 minutes each.
The baseball game was moved to another date so I didn't have that. Mowed the lawn and took a walk. I'll be looking to get a short run or two this week but the elliptical machine is a reasonable substitute prior to the Marathon.
forecast looks good at the moment for Sugarloaf
A little taper distraction for our marathonersStorm Over Everest
Up early to do a family bike, all three of us are doing the Trek Across Maine, so I told my son it's about time to start riding, this will be his first Trek and the way it's looking we're going to end up doing it on MT. Bikes! They rode about 10-miles, I rode 19. Then tonight I tried speed work for the first time. 2 - 1/4 miles at 1:27. a half mile at just over 3 min and two more 1/4's at 1:28 and 1:33. I know it's not a lot, but after wrestling lobster traps all day in the yard, it seem HUGE!
all on the ET with about 5 miles of strolling with our youngest grandson and Vanessa. To all of our Eden racers this Sunday, we'll be with you and proud of you for your hard work getting ready. Now its time to enjoy your taper and your marathon. Life is good.
