What's your run?
I don't have to LIKE it I just have to do it
Another nicec cool morning.
Need to give my legs a rest - my left achilles tendon feels a bit sore.
There's a picture of me in the Islander at the Tremont Trot. And my daughter with Judson. And my son with the kids starting pack. And some other pictures of nice folks I have not met yet:)
anyone running that on the 4th of July? (It's actually 10K, not 6 miles.) I'm going to be crazy and run both that and Walter Hunt. I think RK will be running the Stonington race, too. It starts at 8:00 at the old elementary school.
But be warned, the Stonington race is hilly. I ran it one year and would love to again, but no 4th of July race for me this year, work calls.
great run. Nice chatting with Vanessa, Bob, and Julio after.
Seawall/Bass Harbor loop plus a little bit to bring it up to 9. A little too late in the morning on a day like today. Gorgeous but oh so sunny and hot.
Yup, John, I agree...too hot to start that late. Yet, DeLaney and I slept late (which I dearly needed) so thats when I got out the door. I used some mental trickery to get through it, and I'm happy with a 9:30 pace considering the heat.
Here's hoping I didn't offend everyone driving around in SWH....I realize now that my white running skirt is considerably shorter than the black one I've been wearing! LOL
6 at 6 is so nice. Too hot after that.
Question I've heard is do you train in the heat of the day and try to get used to it or train when it's cooler either in the morning or late night.
I find training in the hot part breaks me down physically and psychologically. If I go out at noon and try and run 6x1-mile like I did yesterday I'd not only run slower but probably would stop after 3-4 repeats and be useless for a couple of days and feel like I'm out of shape and that sommething is wrong with me. Now, in the cooler times of the day I can run more intervals and run faster and not only does it take less toll on the body but gives you confidence. I've gone the tough routine and I train smart now.
So what happens if I get into a race at noon and it's hot? Well, first off it's not like it's not still hot at 6:30-7pm when I do most of my workouts. It's still 65-70 degrees. And second, I know I'm in really good shape and confident from all the workouts I've completed well and the mental game is 90% of it.
Plus I try to avoid races at noon in the summertime and most races are earlier anyhow and it's warmer at 6:30pm then it is at 8:30am.
Rambling on, blah. naptime then work again.
I'm considering starting to get up ahead of DeLaney on longer run days so I can get it in while its cooler. Its just so hard though, since I never sleep well and I am awake 3-4 times a night, I'm tired. I think thats why I'm not a morning person.
Last Sunday, when I got up early to be out the door to run before the Trot, it was peaceful and cool. Then, by the time the afternoon rolled around DeLaney and I were both ready for a nap. That routine could work for me! :)
It's just reality, not a training strategy.
I'm Mr. Mom today so here's a timeline for you working backwards:
One kid at basketball camp by 8:00am, the other one to day camp by 8:30. I woke the kids up at 7:00, got them dressed, breakfasted, teeth brushed, potty stops, bags packed, lubed up with sunscreen, and just made it out the door in time. I got up at 6:30 made coffee, ate breakfast, and packed lunches. If I was really quick I could probably squeak in stretching and a 9 mile run in an hour and a half which would put me at 5:00am. I would also need 30 minutes before that to dress, drink a cup of coffee, have a snack, etc., which would have me getting up at 4:30.
There's no way I'm getting up at 4:30 for a training run.
anything in particular you're training for?
I happen to think between 4 and 5 am is the perfect time to run (I like the feeling of having the entire world to myself) but (1) I'm usually in bed at 8pm and (2) I don't have kids.
Actually, That last line should say the "reality" is I'm not getting up at 4:30, for a number of reasons, mostly cause I need the sleep,{{{{sweet sleep}}}}.
I'm doing a 24hr MTB race in August. Two person team so it's only half as hard as it sounds:) www.24hoursofgreatglen.com
And the MDI marathon. I know, I've heard some stuff about history, but it is MY marathon this year. I'm also signed up for the half.
and you'll be in the thick of the race for a duffel bag. Watch out for Jeff B. though in the 40-49 group. He'll likely stake a claim in some of the shorter races..2 mile on the track, 5k's, and our mile road races - Jack Russell's and Ledgelawn. And then there's Mark W..
Yes Frank, I will do my best to race my best at all the point series races that I can get off work for.
I hear ya! Since I don't sleep well and DeLaney still wakes up at night sometimes, I try to get every ounce of precious sleep I can. DeLaney doesn't get up until 8 or so, thus I am never able to run with the girls at 8:30 or do the Sunday runs. But the reality is, 9 times out of 10, sleep and DeLaney's routine trumps running in cool weather with cool company. :(
in the cool basement, which drew some curious stares from a couple of the locals.
....kitties!
S'true. People are odd -- but often entertaining.
'round Willowdale in Ipswich at a fast walk. Trying to dodge all those Lyme ticks. So far, so good.
Oh, ya, 5M yesterday and 3M the day before for the record.
You'll likely see me occasionally around the island the next couple of weeks.
Keep running!
...that I've seen in the daily log in a very long time.
It's very good to hear you're back and logging miles.
Steve!!
Great run with Julie around EL & a couple more up to #4 & back. Good seeing Sara, Ginger, and Vanessa afterwards. Vanessa is sure getting stronger quickly, running a good 5 today. Critter sightings included a loon and a big frog whose vertical leap greatly exceeded mine. Life is good in the woods.
