What's your run?

4.5

legs feel wretched, BRING ON THE 5K !

3.1

racing in Skowhegan :D

20:52, first place female (and I won money!) -- cherrypicking, it wasn't a big race, winning still feels good though

The early morning run must've shaken out the cobwebs because when they said GO, my legs had this beautiful speed, quick and light legs, I loved how it felt. Straight roads to sprint down, getting the tummy pain I have come to associate with 5k speed or anything else vo2 max-ish, a final lap around the park with a hill at the end that I went up so quickly, and probably the best finishing kick I've ever had.

It felt so short - it must've been 5k because a 20:52 works out to 6:43s and I ran 20:14 at Unity (but there was that big downhill). I think I just had some magic today, to feel so good!

Something

to learn there. Back to back hard days works for some people and if it does doing back to back workouts works well. Of course that means taking 2-4 rests days after.

Nice work.

Something

about the really early warmup seems to help, too. One of my professors who used to run 35:xx for a 10k said she used to run 35 min easy first thing every morning on every day but a long run day, and thought that helped. (Alyie went "hmmmm")

Thank you; and yeah, no run tomorrow.

congrats

on your win, Alyie. Glad you're feeling good. My legs were tired today, I couldn't keep up with Karen and Sara, although Bozo wasn't helping matters. He's great for my legs on easy days.

6.5 mi.

Did not make it to EL this morning. Kids got up early and my wife did not. So... 6.5 on Seawall once everyone was up. I was only going to run around the lake for 6 anyways.

Congrats Alyie on your magic!

10-miles

Slow and easy run, with perfect temps this morning.

Congrats Alyie!

Great to hear you are running so well. Your plan to take a day off sounds perfect.

Great Sunday morning group out with Bob, Becky, Julie, Shannon, Karen, Ginger, Mark, Matt H, Sara, Magnolia, & Vanessa for a cool run in the fog. Bob & Mark were working me hard on the 11m 3 lake loop. We met a new runner from Houston, Audrey, and shared some directions. Thanks for the tips with that better hamstring stretch, Bob. Hope your knee is 100% very soon Julie. Life is good in the woods.

Baseball game postponed

...but not until the end of the 2nd inning. I drive down to Auburn (and back), pay $10 to the ump, and play about 30-40 minutes of a baseball game. Blah.

Once the rain lets up a bit I'm going to run...though I'm just tempted to go out there and do it right now anyway.

"Irish Temper" Run

Waited until the storm passed and ran 4.5 today (33:24). On the last mile, down Ohio St, I got mocked by what looked like some punk college boy. He yelled out "Your man-boobs are leaking!" (I was wearing a t-shirt with permanent vaseline stains in the nipple area.) So I flipped him off behind my back and yelled over my shoulder to get out and take my man-boobs on. The car kept going, which continues to prove that the people who bark at runners have no bite. There's something else they're lacking, too, but I'll be nice.

Anyway, good run overall. I'm sore in every muscle from the knees to the hips but the strides were working just as well as they were yesterday.

14 miles

I woke up this morning wanting to ditch this run; I was awake on and off all night (what is up with this insomnia?) and my stomach was upset. But....then I swore I could hear Judson say "Suck it up" and Alyie say "Yeah, suck it up, princess!" LOL So out the door I went.

I went out 3 miles on the lake stretch, then back to Manset Corner and around the Seawall/Bass Harbor loop. By mile 10 it was pouring. Rain doesn't bother me, but lightning does. When I reached Gott's I hung out under the awning for a few minutes until the worst of the lightning seemed to pass. I wasn't about to call for a ride home with 3/4 of a mile to go!!! So, 14 miles in the books.

Congrats, Alyie!!!!!!!!! :)

thank you all

for the kind words.

You should know that today was fun but I missed you guys, one of the coolest parts of yesterday was having so many Eden and Musterd (sorry Evan I don't know how to get an accent over the 'u') there. I had my family there today (godfather ran 25 min, by the way) but not my RUNNING family.

Suzanne, that phrase will get you through anything. Nice run.

Gott's

I too hung out at Gott's the other day, but it was by the back window!!!! Guess that's why I had to run so far today to work it off :)

Paula

You are so funny! I would love to run with you sometime!

How are your blisters, by the way? Are you feeling more rested lately?

11 in the fog

Good group at EL as Bob B said. Ran a nice Eagle-Bubble-Jordan with the two Bobs, with Becky joining us for the east side of EL and Shannon and Julie for a little longer.

4-miles

nice and easy just as the thunder storm passed.

6 miles around EL

and a 1/4 mile jaunt to Bubble Pond to make my run 6.5 today. I'm afraid I have ramped my miles a little to fast since arriving in Paradise. I was tired most of the run, but was determined to finish. I will certainly look forward to walking with my wonderful Bob tomorrow. It is so good to be back. We sure love all the great friends we have here. Good run Suzanne. I admire your ability to get out there and keep on schedule, even in the rain. Ginger, loved meeting Bozo. He is beautiful. Great seeing Matt, Sara, and Maggie, Karen, Becky and Bob. I very much appreciate all the great photography tips, Bob, as well as the stretching tips. Always good to see Mark, Shannon, and Julie. Mark, so glad to hear from Bob that you are running well. Happy anniversay Shannon and Danson. Hope you had a great celebration. Please get better real soon, Julie. We sure don't want you hurting. See you all on the trails.

Olympic Trials

SO exciting!!! The swimmers Ryan Lochte and McLarty both train at the Port Orange Y where I workout...Lochte's dad trains a lot of our tri competitors in Daytona....SO COOL!!!

Into the Trials

Matt and I just figure out how to hook up our laptop to our TV to watch the trails on a big screen. Both Track and Field and Swimming tonight. The Hougans are happy.

8 miles for me today. 6 with Karen and Ginger, 2 with Matt and Maggie. The three of us climbed the North Ridge Trail this afternoon. And, we both signed up for the BH half at the Y in between workouts. I am not going to do anything close to 8:15s. Great race yesterday, Ginger! You deserve to be a little tired today.

18.6 Escarpment trail

Ran the Escarpment run in the Catskill Mountains of New York, a very hilly trail run. Took 6 hours and 18 minutes, as my friend Felix had some knee problems over the last five miles. We did see a big fat bear near the end.

Harry,

nice job!

what's that joke about not having to out-run a bear, you just have to out-run your friend...

Good work Harry B!

Sounds like a rugged and sometimes technical course.

Keep us posted on your training for the Newport 26.2

35 miles bike 5th gear,core

23.8636 mph
38.4048 kmh
10.6680 meters/sec
2099.9999 feet/minute.The rain lasted me out for second time in four days.Light or steady rain is fine but the pattern late afternoon in Portland past 1.5 weeks is suddenly the sky darkens and it's washout time.No hail as of yet but it's that bad.I waited out one wave and as I approached Back Cove around 9:00pm here comes another shot heavy rain thunder, lightening.A good bike workout at any rate cal burn was 1,360.Congrats Judson on the win/PR.This is good stuff. All the hard work sticking it out through ups and downs is paying off.Inspiring is the word that keeps coming up and truly applies to what you are doing.Same to Alyie,Ginger,Suzanne,Spotter and everyone who raced past weekend.Great running and times keep it up.

Thanks

I'm just taking what I learned from all my coaches and using the best of. It's great, it's like listening to the greatest hits of your favorite artist. I know what's best for me and I've got Brian looking over everything I do just to have that extra set of eyes and his thoughts. No doubt I can get faster and faster for a few more years to come in the shorter stuff, but I really think I'll be running well in the marathon up to 37-41. After that I'm sure I'll run good, but as it has to happen sometime, times must slow and I'll be trying to win age group and finish races. I've still got my eye set on some of those 70+ age group records.

6 miles and walk

after storm Aunt Betty loop...too too humid and my hips hurt. Now I worry that I'll get arthritic hips and that will be that. harumph.
