What's your run today?
Sorry for being so late in saying this (my sisters are here for the week and they are wearing me out!).....
but a big THANK YOU to everyone (Frank, especially) for all the hard work in putting on a successful and fun Run MDI Weekend. And also, to Vanessa.....your photos are wonderful and so fun to see. Thank you for those!
With Autumn.
with Karen and Amy. Humid run but nice company.
with CeCelia and DeLaney. It was nice and misty in Seawall.
Just a update for those coming to Bucksport on Saturday. I drove the 5K course last night and since Tour du Lac was run in June - a stretch of road around the Tour Mile 9 ("Kave Corner") is under construction - it has had the tar removed and is now dirt.
The dirt portion is roughly a quarter mile in distance which will be traversed twice during the race (it's after Mile 1 and before Mile 2) on the 5K Course. I'm doubtful that it will be repaved before Saturday.
So - if you're coming - why not come prepared!
What's the course record at Labor Day 5-miler. is it 24:55? Trying to plan my strategy for the record assault.
B2B maine record is 30:35 by Eric Giddings, 2005
Calais International 5-mile record is 25:13 by Rorri Currie, 1991
Machias 5-miler is 24:45 by Mike Gaige, 1982
NE harbor 5-miler is 25:36 by Evan Graves, 2004
And Labor Day, current course, I know Clapper ran 24:2? on the old course.
I'll give them all a go.
3 courses - in it's history. 1997 the route changed the third time. 2005 the record was set. 25:30.
records are 25:05 for the original course, (Mike Gaige), 24:22 (Gerry Clapper) for the middle course, and Judson's 25:30 for the new/latest course? The original course was about 5.1 miles. The last two are certified five milers. Is this right?
A footnote to the above: I think the only other person to break 25:00 is Tim Wakeland; his exact time I'm unsure of. Todd McGraw might have also, now that I think about it. Maybe someone else out there can shed some light on this?
Bob (Hillgrove) of course, won the race numerous times. Don't ask me how many. :-)
between four and five of them.
out Schooner Head Road as the electricity went off at the YMCA just as I arrived. The new path they are working on looks great--hopefully we can use it this fall!
and yes, the new trail will be great!
Also lots of wild blueberries out there, I spent a couple hours picking those yesterday afternoon.
Warmup down Ledgelawn to park loop road. Then up Caddy doing 5x(30 seconds, 1,2,3 minutes up to the top of caddy) 30 seconds of jogging in place between intervals, 2 minutes between sets. Brian met me as I got done my 3rd and paced me to the top in the car. Worked out perfect.
30 seconds was about 1-mile effort, the minute at 3-k effort, the 2 minutes at 5-k effort and the 3 minutes about 10-k effort. Last time I did this workout I ran my pr for 10-k a couple of weeks later. Might as well do it again.
I'm ready now for August.
3 new members to the Eden family. Eden is 135 members strong and growing. We look forward to seeing you running about and sharing on the daily log.
:)
I see Roxie out in the AM at 6 at 6. Go Roxie, keep it up. I think she wants to prove who the #1 runner is in the family, Heehee.
I read about Bob Hillgrove everyday in my book 'One Hundred years of Maine Running' by Rick Krause. It's what keeps me pushing the limits.
Jeanne, hey ya, remember that you an do anything you put your mind towards.
Very pleasant loop of EL with Becky & Bob C. Got to catch up with Vanessa near the end and see Julie before she headed out.
Sure enjoyed the track workout last night with about 5 miles total. Good company makes such a huge difference and we had a real good group out there. I was pleased with the 2:56 on the last 800. Life is good in the woods & the track too.
on the rower. I was missing it.
Welcome Roxie, Jeanne, and Bob H!
Are Cool! I should know, I'm one of them. Welcome Roxie, Jeanne, and another Bob.
No run for me today. Rest plus some weights and core.
5th gear entire ride.Have not cross-trained for some time and given the crappy weather and since I ran long last night decided to use the bike.Did some groceries afterwards and parked in one of the few off road parking spaces behind my building. It is so lush back there given the rain and humidity the vines look like something out of the Amazon.I wondered if I would encounter a giant spider or something near the entrance door under the light.Sure enough I noticed this giant brown streak mid-door and given the intense storm today thought it might be a twig? But obviously that makes no sense how does a twig become suspended on a door.Upon closer observation it was a giant slug.It was the size of an eel.It was so large I contemplated it for a while trying to figure out what it was.Light brown with little freckles antennae rapidly moving around.Probably asking itself how the hell did I end up on a door?Hope it seeks shelter or it will be bird food by tomorrow morning.
That is really gross. Is there another entrance you can use?
but fascinating at the same time. The size of a small snake. It's been that humid and rainy lately. All kinds of weird insects and animals will appear in this weather. The slug was not nearly as ugly as a possum though. My dad owned a nice home in rural Danbury,CT and around 2:00am or so along with his pet cat a possum could be seen dining on the cat food.Hideous looking.Like a rat.
King of the Roads
an impressive running bio. I especially like the part about winning a race at age 48. Welcome to Eden, Bob!
And a big welcome to Roxie and Jeanne, too!!
