Good luck racers!!!

Rest

Good luck and have fun, downhill milers!

I am looking forward to Senior Recognition, and CeCelia's first XC meet of the season.

5.5mi

running slow along the labor day course, starting at home. Good luck milers!

Jack Russell's Mile: RESULTS

I wish ...

I was 45, but I'm 49 & soon to be 50. Great fun. Thanks to Tom, Brian, Frank and all the other volunteers. And count me in for about 6 miles with w/u & c/d. However, the cool down was me trying to keep up with Judson, Evan, & PJ, so it felt more like a tempo run.

Keep running!

No Show

Frank, sorry for the no-show this morning. I was on my way with coffee in hand when I was called into work. Ugggg.

Good job racers!
No points for me:(

4:03

Holy torpedo, Batman!!

Ya well

I think by myself I was capable of running somewhere between 4:18 and 4:25 on that course. There was a lot of doubt before the race and I really thought 2nd or even 3rd place was possible with PJ who was a good miler in HS and Evan. The only plan I could come up with was to go out from the start as hard as I could go and use the whole mile and not let it turn into a kick at the end. If it had been 400,800 or 1200 meters I would have lost. I used every inch of the mile to get rid of PJ and Evan. PJ and I changed the lead a couple of times adn it was a really because he was helping push the pace and I knew Evan was back there that I ran so fast.

Basically it turned into a mental race. I didn't want to lose a race, especially on the island and I willed my body past what it usually is capable of doing.

If you ask Brian he'll tell you about the doubt I had and a lot of me thought 2nd or 3rd place isn't too bad, but in the race my mind took over and it was like, no, you're not going to lose a race here, you can push more, don't let up, it was competitive focus, The few times I've raced like that I've run very well, it's just a matter of turning it on. You don't need someone right there with you, but it helps and you an see he races where I lack that focus, like NE last week. I don't think Brian thought the plan would work like it did. Thankfully the race tomorrow is a 5-miler and that's a lot of time to get rid of people. Last race until I'm married, unless I get into the half marathon, so I'm going to run this one for Autumn.

4 mi

Including one run with alacrity and near toxic levels of lactic acid. Actually a very fun race to be a part of. Thanks to all for the sponsorship, organization, and volunteering.

mile

Tough race with PJ and Evan there, but it was great to have someone push me.

quarter mile splits of 58,62,65, and 58 seconds.

3.4m stroll with Vanessa

from Duck Brook around WH before the Downhill Mile. Twas fun watching the fast finish. Good job racers!

12 miles

in a thick o' fog. Felt like Maine!

Nice job team Eden..

and a good volunteer showing for the Jack Russell's Steakhouse Downhill Mile. Thanks to Tom St. G, Brian, Liddy, Judy, Julie, Don, Jean, Amanda, Autumn, Diane, Bob, Vanessa, Karen, Eleanor, Ginger, Elliott and Oliver. A special thanks to the BHPD for showing up to help with traffic control, the town garages for loaning us cones, Harbor House for loaning us reflective vests, and to Hannaford and Mount Desert Spring water for bagels and water.

Tom K. tracked down a measuring wheel and Bonnie M. made up some special JR's Downhill Mile medals just in case we needed them. Judson, Brian, Liddy and Julie made numerous trips up and down the mountain to find a route that would be both fast and safe. Like I said..a good team effort.

No worries John S. I'm sure we'll see you down the road. There are a few more opportunities to pick up some points!

Congrats to Judson and the other speedsters and to David O'Meara for successfully logging his 17th sub 5:00 mile (4:36) in his 20/20/sub5@45 quest. David enjoyed the course and the event and said that the Jack Russell's course was the second fastest on his schedule - just behind The Ogden Mile in Wheeling, WV and slightly ahead of Santa Barbara's State Street Mile. That seems about right..

About six people attended Peter Beckett's presentation at Cadillac. (Judy slipped in and out at one point and bought some yellow biking socks.) When I left, Peter had shifted from theory to practice and was fitting some of our First Strides class participants in some new running shoes. We'll see how that all worked out on Wednesday. Thanks Peter B!

Fast times

Are you sure you weren't on bikes out there? Great runs everyone.

I had an opposite experience today, running long-ish and quite slow with a friend, 11.5 flat miles on the Burlington waterfront path. Add the 4.5 I ran yesterday and I have a solid 30 miles during my trip here.

4.5 miles

of blah. Seawall Rd at 6 o'clock but I wasn't feeling it. Tired, tummy upset, not in sync. Legs were fine, it was just the rest of me with issues. Oh well... no injuries, got some miles in, not too much to whine about.

I can't imagine running a mile in the low 4 min range. I don't think I could turn my legs over that fast. Simply amazing:)

great race

I thought the race went very well today and it is so thrilling to have such great speed out there; good job Judson and Evan and PJ. And what a treat to have David come and join in with our event. Thanks to Tom for hosting this. I look forward to being able to participate next year...

I'm out of the Series now having a torn meniscus in my left knee. Total bummer. I'm not exactly sure how it happened, but there it is. I have yet figure out what I'll do about it. In the meantime, cycling and swimming and other stuff to do. I found Peter B's shoe talk very interesting but went on to cycle from BHB out and around Park Loop getting off and then Cooksey Dr, Seal Harbor, NEH, Sargeant Drive and home. A very pretty ride today with boat-filled harbors and sail boats all out and about.

Hopefully

you'll heal quickly! At least you have biking, swimming, and paddling!

It was a beautiful day out there! Some day I'll have to tag along with you on the bike...though you'll have to slow down for me!

(((((hugs)))))

for you, Judy. I'm sorry to hear about the injury.
