Should take tomorrow off since I've run six days in a row now, not looking forward to that.

3.75 Today

in Seal Harbor with Dasher--not feeling too good--a touch of the flu I guess. High School X-country meet starting at 11:00 in Ellsworth this morning.:)

Nice six mile run around.....

town this morning. Perfect weather, I stopped at a yard sale to look around. Went back with Bonnie later.

Well

I guess I just have to cut my losses. I was scheduled for my 3 hour run today, but I called Judson and told him I just can't do it. I have a lot on my plate right now; I won't go into details. I hope one "off" week of training won't make me or break me....and anyway, the Half and MDI won't be "races" for me, just fun training runs.

Now I need to decide what I WILL do today...better get to it before Haydn decides he doesn't want to babysit DeLaney. :)

of course one week won't make/break you

fitness gains and athletic performance come down to these things (not necessarily in this order)

frequency
consistency
specificity

Look at ALL the miles you've run over the past couple months, you'll be fine. Now go run at least a little, you'll hit the first two.

13 miles

Previewed the half marathon course, sort of. Started at EL and headed towards BH. I also "cheated" and did not run down to the pier but cut through on Holland Ave to West Street to avoid people on the sidewalks downtown. Nice run but slower than I was anticipating at just under 2 hrs, usually the rain quickens my pace:)

8 miles

I ran 4 regular, then 4 miles of speedplay intervals using telephone poles as markers. The long run is re-scheduled for next week.

Thanks, Alyie. :)

you're welcome

How'd your first week of classes go?

Mine was pretty good. I don't have any classes on Friday. Physics is - surprisingly - my favorite so far. General Medical Conditions and Disability in sport is okay, would be better if it weren't 6-8:30 at night (which is so past my bedtime it's not even funny). Couple leads on the thesis. And "Adventure Acts and Initiatives" is dumb but at least I won't have to put a lot of work into it.

Back to studying for me.

Ugh

I like the nutrition class (of course!) and hate the history class. SO much reading and I am SO pressed for time right now. I am glad your first week went well.

To keep my running in perspective, I just looked at my training for MDI from last year. I only did one 20 miler, and that was the week after the half marathon. You're right, I should be fine. :)

5.5m stroll

... with Vanessa from Sand Beach and about Otter Point. Saw Matt F & Judson trotting down the Park Loop Rd. Today was more of listen & interesting scents tour as nobody could see too much in all the fog. Life is good in the woods.

Oops, I did it again...

...went out too fast that is. Ran 15 miles with Beth and Sue this morning. The first mile was 8:31, and we were trying to average between 8:45 and 9:00. Ended up averaging 8:58 pace for the 15.

Later, tried to jog slowly for 30 minutes with my daughter who, until today, was quite enthusiastic about trying the cross country team. We ended up jogging/walking for the first 15 minutes, and just walking the last 15 minutes. She seemed a bit discouraged. I tried to explain to her how the high humidity makes it feel harder, but I'm not so sure I convinced her.

Karen, I went through the same thing with my brother

he's 12 and is interested in my running - he thought he wanted to try XC so he started running laps around our driveway (incidentally, the same thing I did when I started running!) and got quite discouraged that he could make 5 of them before he wound up panting and puffing. He's joining the swim club instead (fine by me).

Dear Karen's daughter,
You're off to a great start! Just keep running/walking a little bit every day and you'll make fitness gains fast.
love,
Alyie

Who is planning to go long from EL tomorrow at 8:00..

just checking..given the approach of Hanna.

Hang in there Eleanor. It may not be easy initially to run with the Tigers but ultimately it will prove very rewarding. And you get snacks..

Eleanor...,

...Lots of kids on the XC team can't run for any more than 15 or 20 minutes at the beginning of the season. Nora and Maggie started off running for just 20 minutes three days a week. The only trick is finding the right pace.

The middle school races are usually only a bit over a mile and a half. And, especially at the beginning of the season, it's not at all unusual to see competitors taking walking breaks during them.

So, Eleanor, please keep at it! I wish we'd known you were interested; Nora and Maggie would have included you on their summer running list-serv.

I was planning on it Frank

but may have just wrecked that good idea. Just got back from the track where I tripped over the hose that was lying across the lanes. I've jumped over that hose a million times; I have no idea how it got me this time. I hope to run tomorrow; we'll see.

I'm impressed with a half hour of walk/running by Eleanor; she's doing great.

Thanks

Thanks Alyie, Frank and Brian for encouraging Eleanor. I hesitate to let her read your comments because I think she might feel embarrassed that I shared her woes. However, I will find a way to pass on the information. I think she will feel better knowing that it is not unusual for team members to walk during the competitions.

Heck...

..I've been known to walk several times during a 5K and still win hardware!

Maybe Eleanor would like to join us at First Strides??? I'd LOVE to run with her and you know how Kasch LOVES the girls!!!

I started

out as a run/walker....its the perfect way to start! Go Eleanor!!! You rock!

6 + 4

AM: 6 miles around Great Meadow, Kebo, Cleftstone, COA, West Street, the Shore Path, Livingston. Strides. Best part of this was seeing Don running on Cleftstone. Worst was having to shoulder between two cruise ships-worth of passengers and a wedding on the shore path.

PM: 4 miles on Lower Ledgelawn, Sieur de Monts, Main St., Wayman Lane. Strides.

Actually started the day with another 14, but those were vicarious miles in an automobile trailing after Matt F and Judson with water and gels.
