Sunday, September 7: Daily Log

14 mi on the mountain bike - bringing muffins to my godparents. They always make ME muffins so it was fun to bring some to them - felt like a little kid riding to her friend's house!

11m - all fun

I'm not sure that "A" is a good enough grade for this tri-lake tour. Kev, finishing his long run, gave Mark, Shannon, Michelle, & I the news of Bubble Pond becoming one with the carriage trail - but we went anyhoo. Clearly we need cameras with us as Michelle and Shannon were in and behind a waterfall at one point, we got to swim a bit of Bubble Pond, too fun, and had an all around great time. We even got to see Amy and Ginger post-run.

Mary D, I wish I could remember where your 1/2 Ironman is this weekend, but hope you are having a great race despite all the wet stuff.

Life is good in the woods.

Mary's Half Ironman...

...is the Pumpkinman in South Berwick.

Go Mary!

Awesome

congratulations, Mary!

Good job Mary D!

Thanks for the information Brian.

Congratulations on a great race Mary.

Great Job Mary!!!

Awesome!

6.57

in 60 minutes.

This was my first week of working 5 days, going to school half time, trying to train, and also do all the other things I do. I feel so overwhelmed. Ok, enough whining.

Suzanne - you will do fine in

Suzanne - you will do fine in the MDI and you will not get out of shape if you don't run as many miles as you have been doing. I can remember when I started running in 1994 that I "hung" with my sister and all her friends from Sub 5.. they were nuts to say the least and they would do all these crazy runs and I would think "how can they do that???"" well they ALL ended up injured including my sister. They taught me my lesson on life and running. Just look at my mileage on the edenometer..its so pathetic compared to others but I have to fit it in with working fulltime, caring for elderly parents, and the struggles of keeping an eye on an 18 yr old which could be the most tolling..... Just cross your fingers that you don't have to go through a tax audit (they are "coming after" the fisherman), because it makes fitting in running, work, parents, kids.......... a breeze..

Good perspective Beth

Lots of stuff to juggle in life; make sure the miles you run are making your life more enjoyable, not less.

Thank you so much

for the encouragement, Beth. You and I have two things in common...caring for aging parents and the (in my case) almost 21 year old. Yes, he is taking the biggest toll on me, even though he is old enough to take care of himself.

I did ask my boss tonight if I could cut out a shift, and she said yes. She has some people looking for extra hours, so I will have Wednesdays off....that will relieve some pressure.

Whats your planned pace for MDI? Maybe we can hang together for awhile!!!

My plan is to be under 10 min

My plan is to be under 10 minutes miles all the way and I would like to beat my time in 2006 which was like 4:23, but if I don't it will be fine. P.S. They tell me that when "they" hit 25 it gets better.. so you have 4 yrs to go and I have 7....

all this chat about 21 year olds

I just don't know...

That

sounds great, Beth!

10.5 ish

nice and easy with Amy.

track

Does anybody dare to do a track workout with me tomorrow morning at 8:30ish?

Memorable tri-lake run

Sorry to have missed the waterfall girls, but I had to run early today. Major washouts caused lots of damage on the carriage roads. As Bob said Bubble became one with the carriage road and it was almost knee deep for long stretches. Even Eagle had spots that were ankle deep with no way around.

We're sorry to have missed out on your participation!

I had two great runs this week, very lucky me. This one was definitely unforgettable with swimmable parts around Bubble. Michele was kind enough to pull me through one of them (she figured I wasn't swimming fast enough) and Bob swam with us in the deepest washout. Mark somehow avoided the swim and the climb up to the waterfall. Next time I'm dragging you in. : )

Nice job Mary at Pumpkinman!

6 mi. fartlek....

...6,5,4,3,2,1 down-cycles actually. Warmed up over McFarland then started the half-rest cycles at Aunt Betty, took them up 7B, then back along the west side of Eagle Lake.

Those roads are all dry and firm now, although there was evidence of a few mild washouts along the way.

water run and swim

swim - 1,200 scy

600 w/u kick every 4th length
20 x 25 kick IMO
100 IM

Water run - 30 min
10 min w/u
7 x (1 min hard + 1 min easy)
6 min c/d

Judson, I'm going to have to build up to those 5 min hard.

16 miles

Very hilly and slow.

Run For Hope 5K - Bangor

5K Warm up with Steve McCarthy. 5K Race - finished 10th 20:13. Although the course itself is flat - the weather wasn't the easiest to content with - with a strong headwind. 5K Warm Down.

The course is about 1/2 mile out then a 2.5 mile loop and a 1/2 mile back. The loop itself is mostly flat with about 3/4 of a mile on a dirt road.

McCarthy won in 16:30. Ori Farley won for the women.

Not sure if Dysarts is in Hampden, Bangor or Hermon or in fact in a combination of towns... The start/finish was at the Whitehouse Inn which is directly behind the truck stop.

Proud to help fight the battle against cancer. I distinctly remember running this road race 20 years ago when it went around the Bangor Mall.

Some, but not a lot, of XT

30 minutes on the bike trainer plus some weights and core. I was wondering this morning as I drove through lots of standing and running water on my way into work if anyone would be running from EL this morning. I knew it would be wet, but never imagined "knee deep". Good work getting the running/wading in this morning and having fun doing it.

20mi

4 loops around Kenduskeag Ave - splits of 41:58, 42:08, 40:22, and 39:21. Started out slower to get my legs under me. A day off from running yesterday and a brief calf muscle spasm in the right leg hampered me, but after I got myself into a groove I gradually pushed myself harder. I got a welcome burst of adrenaline in the last 2 miles (the Gladiator soundtrack popped in my head out of the blue) and finished very strong.

T -4 weeks until the Maine Marathon. T -2 weeks until the Bar Harbor Half.

Eden & 1st Strides are growing!

Eden is now 150 members strong and growing. Please welcome three new members to our club and to First Strides, who joined us last Wednesday:

Emma Allende
Rochelle Sprague
Peter Vaux

That brings First Strides to 14 athletes in training so far.

Welcome!

We're so glad you all joined us!!!

150..and counting

That's a good number and it's been great to see so many people coming out to help with the new First Strides class. Last week counting dogs, kids, volunteers, and class members I think we had a total group of about 25!

Good work at the pumpkinman Mary D!

6M

in the woods of Willowdale. A soak & a stretch, too.

Keep running!
