Thursday, October 2: Daily Log

There is no such thing as chance. A door may happen to fall shut, but this is not by chance. It is a conscious experience of the door, the door, the door, the door.

for 7.7 mi, achy legs. Maybe the key to this whole running easy thing is to do a long run ;-)

4,500 scy

1200 build by 200
8 x 125 on 2:00 as 25back/25 breast/75 free
20 x 100 on 1:30

My stroke was AMAZING today. Could've done without the hypoglycemia - ate a gel before I got in the pool and didn't feel it kick in until I was on the fourteenth hundred. I am now reviving myself with chocoalte soymilk.

maybe

the key would be less running

aren't you cute :-)

I would think less running would mean rested legs and I'd run faster.

Oooh it's naptime.

the more I

rest the stronger my races seem to be. B2B went awesome with 4 days rest beforehand. A marathon is a different story, but I can't wait to test the theory.

Julie... I don't think any of us could pace you for more than a few miles anyways:)

ya, ya,ya...

whatever makes you feel better leaving me out there all by myself...:) :)

Day off

today. I'm excited, if Sara can find us she's going to run the last 6 or so miles with me and or Karen at Maine.

...and again...

...I get left out to suffer on my own :( That's OK, don't worry about me...I'll just be all lonely out there trying to get to the finish with no fresh legs to run me in...don't worry about me...

Do you feel bad yet???? :)

If you're lucky

you might see a Buff Manila on a bike.

Sara are you running the half? Or just going to watch?

When I ran Maine two years ago, Ian ran the last three miles with me. I cannot describe how awesome that was.

Two very important events happened on this day ...

Don Bell & Amy Philbrook were born on October 2nd. Wishing you both all your favorite things on your birthdays and many happy returns.

6.3 miles--

at the YMCA today out of the rain--part on the track with Sara. Who's birthday I believe is today also--Happy Birthday Sara--I wish I had remembered when I saw you this morning! I hope you have a great one:)

Happy Birthday Sara!

There was an error in the membership database saying Sara's birthday was not until Nov. 2nd. We will just have to celebrate twice, or better yet, continuously. Wishing you all your favorite things Sara.

Happy Birthday!

To Amy, Don & Sara!!!

8-miles

With Brian, Evan and Matt H. in the eary morning rain. We all ran different total mileage, but most of it was together.

Time vs. distance

AB, 7B, W.EL with Matt for six, plus an out and back on the east side of Eagle to meet Evan and Judson, who did their 8 in the time it took me to get 7.

Wet but worth it.

Yup

Weekdays at 6:30am, come one come all.

5

Only 5, but they were fast, at least for me. 1st time on the treadmill in months. What a bore, but it did feel like a good workout.

Ha, me too

I treadmilled it today while Zoe rebuilt the fort under our ping pong table. 6 miles, with 15x1 min pickups, almost 1 min jogs between. I had to do something to keep myself entertained since I wasn't crawling into the fort...

And happy birthday to Don, Amy and maybe Sara! : )

Treadmill, YUCK!

How can you stay inside that long? That would kill me:)

Sometimes

for some people, it is the only option. For others of us, it is a bizarre, inexplicable form of masochism.

Kidding

I was only kidding with Shannon, I think she has already figured out that I'm a nut and will play outside day after day year round. I'm probably one of the few who kayak more in the winter than in the summer, run in the snow and still think it's all fun and games.

You better not be kidding!

I was laughing at myself for being a gerbil when these days are my absolute favorite for running. But Zoe is big enough to get a vote now... I just have to ride it out some days until she and Adria are big enough to run beside me. Shouldn't be too long now!

I want to join in on some of your winter reindeer games... Keep me in mind when you can't find a running/kayaking partner.

7.65mi

A little more to make up for the zero yesterday. Just beat out the nasty incoming thunderstorm.

fall thunderstorm

is BEAUTIFUL, I think.

Swim team was just getting in for practice as I was getting out (not kidding: a second later, they would've dove in over me). Wonder if they'll get out because of the thunder and lightning. That would make roommate happy, she dislocated her shoulder last week and can swim right now but only breaststroke - which she is sick of. She's a butterflier/backstroker.

Wildcat 5K

Does anyone know who I can contact to get info on the Wildcat 5K? I've been working with a couple for 5 weeks, 3 times a week, 30 minutes a session and they want to do a 5k this fall and I thought the Wildcat 5K might be perfect. It's low key, with not a lot of people. This couple is new to running/exercise, so it's VERY exciting to see that after just 4 weeks, they were trotting 30 minutes. Our next step is to work up to 3.1-miles, but we've still got a month and I've still got a lot of jokes!!!!!!

Running of the Wildcats (or Edenistas) 5k

November 8th at 9:00 A.M. Starts and finishes at Tremont School. Same course as last year, Paula. We'll get applications out by email in the next few weeks. Bring your friends!

4.2 stroll with Vanessa

It was a beautiful loop about WH/PH and we only got rained on a wee bit just before returning to Duck Brook Bridge. All that water rushing by at the bridge was impressive this afternoon. Life is good in the woods.

Happy Birthday

to everyone to whom it applies!

4 nice miles

after work. Then took DeLaney to choose a bunch of pumpkins- fun!

Happy Birthday ALL!

I have a pumpkin in my room

she is my pet and she is perfectly round and orange.

Wait til you guys see my Halloween costume for this year, I am going as HAPPY BUNNY. I'm going to carve a Happy Bunny into the pumpkin, too.

I'm Alice in Wonderland

My costume just came in today. My pet's also roundish and orange, but it breathes.

I almost hit you today!

OK, not that close, but anyway... I'm heading towards SWH stuck in a line of traffic near the harbor head, the line starts moving, I start moving, and BAM, there's Suzanne right in front of me. I made a feeble attempt to swerve, it was the best I could do:)

Haha!

I didn't even notice any close calls today! No problem...I try to be really careful. :)

Are you getting excited? Pumped up? I am, except for this nagging tightness in my hip.

A few miles along Seawall..

in the rain this morning. They are all good miles.

Happy Birthday Amy, Don and Sara!

So..how did the Tigers make out today at Blue Hill?

Ginger's costume the truth

Hi, I'm not Ginger, I'm her husband, Tim, and I just wanted to add that not only is Ginger's costume to much for ledgelawn, but it's probably to much for the Playboy Mansion. WOW! Just thought I'd let ya know. She doesn't know I've written this...yet.

*insert scary music of your c

*insert scary music of your choice here*

just so everything is absolutely clear

I am a HAPPY bunny... no references to any other type of bunnies!

Some 7th grade runners might get a sneak peek of my costume tomorrow, if they're at CBC.

Tim

you might want to watch your grammar, it's "to" not "too." Maybe I should be a strict english tutor for Halloween and teach you a lesson or two.

Excuse me

I had those to's/too's backwards. I can't help it, I'm a little flustered and I'm never going to hear the end of this!

Car Shopping

Spent much of the day car shopping, unsuccessfully. I'm driving around this morning listening to NPR talking about how car sales are in a huge slump, Ford was down 38% in September, Toyota like 35%, thinking this is going to be easy. They are desperate to sell me a car right now, right? The news hasn't made it to the dealerships yet. I want thousands off, not hundreds. Geez.

No exercise for me again today. I also woke up with a huge head cold, sore throat, the works. And all I could think of was a weakened immune system was yet another symptom of adrenal fatigue:) Alyie!!!!!

Maybe a run tomorrow if I can breath through my nose.

Nah, the weakened immune system

is that "excessive" (I am quoting the text) exercise lowers T cell protection in your body. Moderate exercise improves immune function by increasing natural killer cell activity. After a long or big competition, if an athlete takes time off, she may get sick because the natural killer cell activity decreases; it goes back to a normal level, but she is used to a higher level from training.

While I've got my notes open, more on hormones:
-Cortisol: stimulates the breakdown of protein in all body cells but the liver. Blood brings amino acids to the liver, where they're made into glucose. Cortisol also supports the action of other hormones, notably glucagon and growth hormone. It inhibits glucose uptake and oxidation, and accelerates lipid mobilization for energy.
-Growth hormone: exercise inhibits somatostatin, which would inhibit GH - so now GH is higher. It stimulates lipid release and cellular glycogen uptake.

alright, back to bed for me, I just woke up hungry and needed a snack :P

Interesting

I just googled this tightness/sometimes pain I am having in the right hip flexor. Just like the article said, the pain sometimes originates deep in the buttock and can travel down the back of the leg. One of the examples it happened to give was a Mom always carrying her child on the same hip and the strain this can cause. I notice this discomfort has been getting more frequent. Could it be something as simple as how I hold DeLaney, and the fact that she is getting heavier by the day? The article gave some good pics of stretches, I am going to try those along with icing.

Suzanne

I get that every winter from running on the pavement. It goes away when I start running on the carriage paths again. I think it has to do with the slant on the side of the road.

I have the same...

...sort of thing. My back problem is due to my hips being twisted which is due to carrying Kasch, so yes this could be from carrying Delaney and may be exacerbated by the roads.

Yeah

I was thinking more DeLaney....just since I do about 90% of my running on pavement year round and its never bothered me before. Maybe I should try holding her on the other hip. Or tough love...no more carrying her around!! haha....just kidding about that. :)
