Friday, October 3: Daily Log

Happy Autumn/Fall everyone!

We haven't gotten our pumpkin yet. :-(

Fast And Gorgeous

8.8 in 65:00 then 0.2 c/d. Plan for tomorrow is just to swim.

I CAN'T WAIT TO BE AT BEECH CLIFF TODAY!

Nice picture, Nora!

Hope you get your pumpkin soon. We bought six yesterday, and DeLaney had a blast lugging them around and getting muddy! :)

Weekend Runs

The weather is sounding good for the weekend so all of you doing races and those heading to Portland enjoy the day and good running to you all.

Jean--Don

Thanks

Don & Jean!!! I think it's going to be a fun weekend for everyone!

Relaxing EL run...

...with Shannon, Zoe, and DeLaney. Zoe even showed me some great stretches; she's a pro!

Windy run

I loved the EL loop today with Suzanne and the munchkins. More wind today than we had for the alleged hurricane! Can't help loving that feeling of being swept up by the gusts.

I'm feeling a lot of nervous energy for all you marathoners, good luck!

5 miles easy

Manset/Seawall with the dog. Legs felt great after two days off. The rest of me felt congested. The joys of a fall head cold. Nice day for a run and the dog had a wonderful time.

Suzanne. To answer your question from yesterday, YES, I'm excited. I'm also progressively getting nervous; did I pick the right training plan, what to wear, do I need new shoes, ipod yes or no, stuff like that. I also lost my support team. In a very thoughtful surprise gesture my family is volunteering at one of the water stops sponsered by MDI Hospital (Chris works at the hospital). They promise to meet me at the finish. I'm still waffling on what pace to start out with. Other than that I'm ready:)

Actually, you have quite a big support team,

John S. Let me know your flight plan - expected pace, gel requirements, if you want to drop layer after you warm up, etc. - and we'll keep a good eye on you.

Frank

Thank you. I did know that. You mentioned that the first time I told you my marathon plans and I remember thinking, "what a great running club". I will take you up on that, just need to come up with my flight plan.

Hehe

I don't have much of a flight plan either.

I do know that I will:
1. Use the first few miles as a warmup, going out too fast on this course is a killer.
2. Will definitely wear my Ipod, but probably ditch it in the last miles (as I have asked Shannon to run me in!)
3. Definitely bring an extra layer; got very cold last year around mile 8? Thank goodness Ginger lent me her jacket.
4. Try to have a gel every hour or so
5. Have FUN!

I'm nervous too. I think we all always have those questions/doubts no matter how our training went. Frank is right though; the club provides wonderful support. My fondest memories of last year include Sara running with me, Shannon waiting at mile 12, Mark jumping in, Don and Jean and mile 18, Ginger ready and waiting at mile 20, and Brian and Frank on the home stretch.

I know you are going to have a great race, John, and I can't wait to hear what your wonderful moments will include. It would be wonderful to spend a few miles together, if that works for us. :)

Sounds good, John

The flight plan should include a bit of fuel left in the tank for a victory dance with Sabine at the finish line.

Support Team

Although I won't be anywhere near MDI, I (and many other expatriate Edenites) are nonetheless cheering for you very loudly indeed!

Me too!

Go, go, go Eden!

John

I have a VERY supportive family (in addition to our Eden family) and I will gladly share them with you!!!

Thank You All.

But enough about me already.

We have a herd Edenistas running in Portland this weekend. Let's send them some Race Vibes.

(((((Run Strong)))))

It's fun

to share in the excitement of someones first marathon, John!

But....yes......GO EDEN IN PORTLAND! I am very excited for our teammates, can't wait to hear all the reports, and wish so very much I could be there in person to cheer.

7-miles

With Evan this morning.

Gym day

Upper body lifting and ab work, both fairly light. Plan to run an easy 4-5 tonight.

4.35mi

Valley ave loop with something extra. Ran smooth, barely-under-8 miles.

Right Calf Sore Day

right calf still sore from many many hours of driving... headed to Guilford tomorrow for timing. Just a handful of preregistations in for the 12K. About a dozen for the 5K.

8 miles - 8 bridges

Had a good run with Julie & Amy CCW on the AB/7B/EL route and was surprised by the wind and white caps on EL at the end. Good to see Tom K & Shelly at the Boat ramp and Vanessa, Ginger, Karen, Marian, & Holly at the parking lot.

Go Team Eden in Portland this Sunday! Now we need a designated feedback person to keep we vicarious marathoners on board throughout the a.m.

Life is good in the woods.

Sunday's race

My anxiety is cresting toward outright terror for Sunday - my first marathon. Here's my big pre-race plan. No faster than 9 minute miles for the first 5 miles (even if it requires constant conscious focus to do so). Then, no faster than 8:30. Great freakin' plan, don't you think??? Oh, yeah, and mentally prepare around mile 15 for the wall, and be prepared to work through it. Mental toughness is not my forte, so we'll see how it goes. Best wishes to everyone this weekend, and of course for MDI.

Hey - a shout out to Sue Kolakowski, whom I encountered by happenstance today. We Lewiston-ites need to stick together!

C'mon Mike, it'll be fun!

No freaking out now, that'll just burn energy that you have plenty of use for in your upcoming long run. That's all it is; another long run. You've done these before, it's just that this one has lots of company and support and is maybe a little longer than other long runs you've done. It'll be great, just trust yourself. : )
