bike: 90 min on the trainer
Legs felt good, was lower back fatigue that got to me. Cheers!
Started with some lower back pain but I got through it. I found something more painful this morning: windchill.
on the island? I want to run EL this afternoon... is it gusting wind? Is it snowing there? It's snowing here in E-town, and it's sticking too!
to all of the above:)
3 mile warm up on the treadmill at the Y followed by the Bed Races in BH. We had some technical difficulties with the bed and ended up in 4th. It was fun though; cold, windy, snowy, slippery, fun:)
with Vanessa. Mighty pretty out there with a white coat of snow draped on most things. Sorry I missed the bed race. Sounded like fun John. Life is good in the woods.

Felt like I couldn't grip the water very well; my arms get a little tired from being on the bike, believe it or not. That's my excuse for generally swimming easy.
Out and back from Eagle Lake Parking lot. I'm running for fun these days and found I wasn't dressed warm enough for a trip around Witch Hole to be fun, so I turned around at the intersection. I was entertained along the way by one of the geekier podcasts I subscribe to "Dan Carlin's Hardcore History".
Marion her dog Jackie, Dasher and I went around the lake this morning after a group power session at the YMCA--it was beautiful and not too cold in the wooded areas, but we had many layers of fleece on! What time is the Thanksgiving run this year? Is it at 8AM or 9 AM? I noticed it did not say. Thanks:)
I just noticed the run is at 9:00AM. I forgot to check the calendar. Hope to see everyone there!
...I keep adding to my longest run every few weeks... this is my new record for running straight through. It felt really good, even with the wind and snow. Glad to hear that you are having similar weather at home. I'll be home in just a few weeks so maybe I'll see some of you out and about! Good luck to all you turkey trotters tomorrow!
The gym was closed due to weather conditions - that's fair, I'm not the one who has to dig it out - so I ran outside. In town 5k loop but walked the last half mile or so. Sore in bad ways from running yeasterday but the snow was very soft to run on and the cold probably saved my the trouble of icing afterward. And I got my real workout today sledding on campus - very intense fun.
I'll send Tennille - It's as sweet as snowy winter running weather gets in the Maritimes today!
I have consulted with some local experts (you know who you are) and I've decided to try to run 1-2 miles easy with ice right after, until I see my Dr, as the pain has not gotten better nor worse with rest. I admit I haven't been icing like I should *don't yell at me, I vow to be better from this day forward* and it made a big difference today after my little run. (Sometimes it is hard to ice when you have had a sick toddler all week who wants ONLY YOU, not a good excuse but there it is.) I'm praying she is well enough to leave with my MIL tomorrow, as I haven't been out of the house in days and dearly need a little break! :)
change of plans for the 5k.My father,a former distance runner,is doing the race tomorrow morning and I'm running it with him.I'll do a full-out race on Thanksgiving.Either the 4 miler in Portland,or maybe a new 5k in Cumberland.I held out tonight for the wind to die down.Gusted throughout the day in Portland into 30mph range. Was brisk at 8:32pm start but 15mph was at least tolerable.Wind chill values are similar to January so it's been nasty running conditions all week.Always nice to get out there and get it done.As far as icing, anyone who is dealing with an injury, rub the ice directly on the area.No bag,no cloth-just ice on skin.
if you're RUBBING the ice on (ice massage) you needn't have a layer between ice and skin. If you are leaving the ice to sit on one spot, there needs to be something between ice and skin so you don't get frostbite.
Yes this is another thing I learned the hard way.
Here is a good article discussing ice treatments.
around is important and if you see the skin darken stop right away.Good call backing off racing for a while. You don't want to encourage an injury.Good luck with your tri-training.
Chatter and I are having lots of fun!
I took an ice bath this morning and got out when my skin got red...
How was the race with your dad?
once in a while to cross-train.It's boring in that it's stationary but fun in a way because it's a different workout.I think everyone's running routine,no matter how much they love the sport, gets stale once in a while. My father opted not to race this morning. At 66 he's a fair weather runner. That left me in limbo because I ran hard late last night and was not about to race this morning. So I sat out as well.I'm Doing the 4 miler on Turkey Day in Portland. You should do that race sometime.Starts at City Center, two loops through the Old Port.A big local race and fun.Unique in a way,no numbers, just timing chips.
which is good because I think I'm fairly gifted at this whole tri thing but if I want to truly go somewhere with it, I need to get the cycling to come around.
Maybe next year on the Thanksgiving day race. The local pool is having a "Turkey Splash" as a fundraiser so Thanksgiving morning, I'll be swimming!
about tri-training and the sport in general is the variety. And because of the range of muscle groups that get worked within the three sports involved, almost anything else you do benefits the required physical conditioning.Like hiking and skiing for instance. My triathlete sister out in Tahoe, like you, prefers swimming but she skis and hikes consistently as well.At 22 and a good athlete, along with your focus and dedication you are well on your way to making some noise in any triathlon you enter. You already have, actually.
Jeff Hunt, one of the Campus Rec directors on campus - my real life tri friend at school - IMAZ yesterday.

YEah! (say it like a Red Hot Chili Pepper). I can't wait until he gets back to school, I want to hear ALL about it. OMG I'm so jealous. When do I get to do an Ironman!!!!
I think my sister completed the only ironman she ever did in 14hrs and change. What a great idea and Christmas gift to yourself. The training camp will be a blast and will benefit your knowledge of the sport.
any difference between icing w/ frozen vegetables and icing w/ snow? I've smelled like a frozen veggie dept. for four weeks and if a snowball in a plastic bag works just as well...
