Good luck Tour du Lac racers today!
It's this: a Judson smile and luck-wish before the start, Evan asking if he can catch a ride back to the island. Buff, whom I saw quickly before and quickly after.
It's this: sitting next to Jeff on the stairs for awards, fingers crossed there'll be raspberry jam left.
It's this: catching Kate at nine, creating a gap like the one I'd just demolished - it's this the fear that I'd best do it now or get out-kicked.
It's this: legs that respond, and wasn't this what you were worried about last night: tired legs. They were tired, but they weren't too tired and that's the trick.
Third is raspberry flavored.
Wandered around Lamoine, thinking of the tour du lac runners this morning. Seemed like a good day to run!
I felt good today so decided to push the pace a little. I averaged 7:58 pace, which is faster than what I raced the NEH 5 miler in last year. Yesssss!
Sounds like Alyie finished in the sweets. Nice work. Enjoyed a 7 mile stroll with Vanessa at 7 and got to see Bob & Becky C along the way. We got to see Karen S. looking great as she was finishing a 15 miler in the early hours. Nice job Karen!
For dessert, I got to trot around EL with Ginger at 10:30 and saw Bob C, now biking, at the end. Life is good in the woods. It was great seeing everyone at the Eden meeting last night.
It was a good day to run. I felt the humidity when I pushed too hard--breathing got ragged--but otherwise no complaints.
This was the second race in a row in which I ran hard but not very smart. My Garmin ran out of juice during my warmup, so I was running by "feel," and at 3 miles I felt like turning around and just bagging the whole thing. I was dizzy and nauseous and not happy at all.
Of course I'd gone out too hard, so when I slowed down I recovered somewhat. I was next to a runner at the 5-mile mark and able to get my first split of the day (31:46), which explained things, and I crawled up that big hill. I ended up feeling much better at 8 miles than I had all day, and while I posted almost a minute positive split, I'm happy with my time, which is a 4+ minute CR. I'm also pleased that I was able to pull back enough to feel better but not give up and jog it in.
Finally, I'm inordinately proud about winning my first jar of TdL jam :-)
My first time on this course, it was hard, but not too hard. I stuck with my plan of just running it and not racing it. Felt really good at mile six (just after the big hill) and decided to pick up the pace a bit. Picked off half a dozen people on the way in and enjoyed myself. 1:21:something for the 10.
On the lighter side there was one more runner I was trying to beat before the finish, I was gaining but just didn't get it done before the end. As I cross the line, get my water, and look up... I see it was Michele. Good job Michele!
Tdl. I'd like to gut out that race but not ready. I think these weather conditions are very challanging and leading up are very different from waht I've seen in the last ten'yrs. Your placements are a testament to effort, imagine if you had more vitamin D. 7 miles B-Betty on the long with Tracy. Kept parallel to her pedal cadance...F`o~C`u~S`e~D with baden breath and chin tucked, dang those cyclists.
